#1 crazy_monkey May 11, 2013 14:33:34	Mark "Wrecan" Monack passed away April 21st, according to this blog post by his wife. Wrecan was a pillar of this community from nearly the beginning, always helpful, always creative, always willing to speak his mind.  In recent months, he regaled us with D&D Next Q&A haikus and was a player in my Tour of the Editions play-by-post games. He will be missed.

#3 truemallowman May 11, 2013 14:53:14	Well, that's certainly sad tidings.  Wrecan was always one of the most thoughtful and articulate posters on this forum, someone I would have loved to see in the development staff because even when he said something I didn't necessarily agree with, he always had strong rationale and a level of thought behind what he said that was...well, it was refreshing.  There aren't enough people out there who are like that.  He will be missed.

I think I've seen him quoted in more signature files, and agreed with him more than not, and respected him in disagreement more than just about any others. RIP Wrecan, you indeed will be missed

Can't say he was always the easiest guy on the boards to get along with, but he always had something good to contribute, and pitched in on a lot of stuff. I'll remember him for a long time.

More than once I read a thread just because he deemed it worthy of commenting on first. I valued his opinion. I'd always hoped one day to bump into him at a Convention and offer to buy him a beer. He was truly the best of us and the forums are diminished by his absence. We should all be a little more Wrecan.

Wrecan had extensive D&D knowledge and laid out his opinions in a lucid, engaging manner. My occasional visits to Unearthed Wrecana showed his analytical approach and the depth of caring he had for the game and his fellow gamers. I doubt D&D would have lasted 40 years without the enthusiasm, dedication and spirit of sharing that gamers like Mark Monack have had. Yes, a dedication to him in the final product would be ideal, and after reading Mike Mearls' tweets on Wrecan's passing, I'm confident he would be on board with this.

#108 I_smile_alot May 15, 2013 5:17:35	When I saw the post regarding Wrecan's death tears came to my eyes, and I'm crying still as I write this. I did not know him at all, only his blogs and his insights which I looked forward to. Did I agree with him? Not always. Did I appreciate his thoughtfullness, his insights, his reasoning and his willingness to listen to others views? Absolutely yes! I've written to him several times throughout the years regarding about his writings, a blog I thought worth promoting and ideas I wanted his thoughts on. And I always found him to be kind, patient and thoughtful. I still have an email in my in-box on how to make a piece-work army when I wrote to him asking on specifics of the conversion. And I'm sure many others have very similar stories of a man who was generous with his time. I know that his promotion of others through his monthly Heroes of Blogging will be missed as it truly and very generously encouraged the community to promote and share not just their ideas, but to improve the game and the community as a whole. I can't imagine the loss to his family and their suffering right now, but I do know that all our lives were richer for him, and all our lives will be a bit dimmer without him. May all the wonderful memories not just of gaming, but of family times spent together be brought closer to them to comfort them in their loss.

Wrecan was without a doubt the single person in the community who motivated me the most in the hobby, and not only, always giving my blog posts visibility among his (purely altruistic) Heroes of Blogging series, and also two annual awards. I was hoping he would have joined at least as a consultant the design & development team, because he was so brilliant in his ideas that, with his additions, he truly created a better game than what the designers had. However, my deepest thoughts and emotions are all for his family, a wife and children that counted on him living much more than this... I will pray for you. The tears I'm crying now, for the first time ever for someone I have never met in person, are those of a sincere love for Wrecan, and sincere sadness for his family. May these tears empower my prayers, and may his family live a great life, with the presence that Mark will surely always continue to be among them.

As LordArchaon said in his eulogy, I've never been so sad for the passing away of someone I didn't meet in person. #119 MacEochaid May 16, 2013 0:59:55	One of the things as WotC moves forward with 5e is their struggle to meet many different playstyles. I was VERY critical of Wrecan's hyper symmetrical aesthetic. That said when he thanked me for an idea on his Weapon Design forum I could not be more proud. Wrecan was the best of trying to understand how different playstyles work, and in a community whose opinions can so quickly turn to aggression, his blog posts were always polite, thoughtful, and measured. I will definitely miss him.

#138 RadperT Jun 30, 2013 20:52:26	Just a thought: The Wrecan is a shapeshifter which takes the form of a lizardfolk.  Only lizardfolk and those well-versed in the race's mannerisms can recognize the transformed Wrecan, with a contest of Wis vs. Cha to bluff.  Wrecans are neutral and avoid situations which might cause their condition to be revealed.  Although their stealth ability is minimal, lone Wrecans often choose to ambush an individual, relying on their patience and ability to remain still for long periods of time.  Once a Wrecan has bitten its target it is unlikely to relent, unless it knows the victim and feels the individual would become a suitable Wrecan. AC:  13 (leather) HP:  15 (2d10 + 4) Senses:  low-light vision 30 Movement:  30 Attacks Multiattack:  one bite attack and one claws attack Multiattack:  one bite attack and two dagger attacks Bite:  +4, 1d4 piercing and lycanthropy Claws:  +3, 1d8 slashing Dagger:  +4, 1d4 piercing Interaction Favor:  negotiation Disaffectation:  has bitten target Avoidance:  lizardfolk, discovery

#140 roninfrosty Aug 01, 2013 17:03:40	I've been away from the forums for quite a while, having been with my girlfriend through a pregnancy and the birth of our beautiful little girl. I came back today to see what had changed with the packets, and popped on the forums to see what the people I follow had written lately. Wrecan was the first tab I opened, and was immediately floored to see he'd passed. I know this is late, but my thoughts are with his family. Hopefully the pain has lessened, but I hope his memory is as strong as ever.
#141 Plaguescarred1 Aug 19, 2013 10:31:10	Its cool to hear WoTC did a little nod by naming a lizardfolk NPC in Ghost of Dragpnspear castle module after Wrecan!  I was one of the DnD All Access judges (The ones who ran all of Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle) and I have to say. I love the fact that Wrecan was one of the NPCs.  That was awesome.  Cool!  What Race/Class was he? He was a lizardfolk advisor being held captive by a bad guy.  In the mod he was really just a side note but I made him pretty integral to the plot for my table.
