#1 jmeitzen01 Sep 20, 2009 3:22:59	This was a flop in my town as normally there are around 20 people that come to check out the new things that wizards has enlightened us with, but yesterday the few people that showed up decided that its would not be beneficial to waste all of that thime to create some quickie little adventure/encounter. I even brought by brother to check out 4.0 for the first time and ended up taking him back to my books and the Character Builder only to not have a solid answer as to whether he would like it or not. it is extremely difficult to have an encounter for just 1 player and so he dod not get the opportunity to actually play.   I for 1 am disappointed with the turn of events in how this game day went. I do however understand why wizards did this and am not, questioning the reasons behind the decision. I will however strongly suggest that this never happens again. I dont know about the rest of you that DM, but I don't get many opportunities to actually play and look forward to game days to do just that.
#2 WolfStar76 Sep 23, 2009 15:45:26	I had the opposite of your encounter. I'm someone who's never taken the time to stop and create a 4E encounter - so I admit I was a bit trepidatious about this game day. I'll save the long-version (which you can read in my blog here on the site) - but the short version is that I actaully learned quite a bit about 4E Encounter design - especially in regards to how easy and nearly-automatic it can be. I suspect the reason WotC took this tact this time around was for that very purpose.  To help expose more people to the art of DMing in a fairly safe/collaborative environment. Ultimately, I think it's a shame more people didn't choose to partake - it was a fun little exercise that's cured at least SOME of my "fear of DMing" woes.

#4 kamel Sep 25, 2009 13:05:25	I had a similar disappointing experience to the OP.  A couple of friends and I went to a local spot listed by Wizards as hosting a WWGD3 event.  We play 3.5 and were looking forward to checking out 4E. When we showed up, it turns out it was a local RPGA group running their regular mid-level campaign (and probably just "hosting" WWGD for the free goodies), and no we couldn't join or observe.  By the time we made it to another spot that was hosting, their tables were full so the day ended up being a bust, though we did get a chance to check out the 4E books at the FLGS. Disappointing for sure, but maybe my city just isn't a D&D town - the last time I tried to participate in game day (MM2) the DM never showed.
#5 jmeitzen01 Sep 26, 2009 3:58:50	It probably wouldnt have been a big deal, however if players show up to play only to find out that everyone else said no that 1 or 2 players cannot do this, I wish that I had enough people to actually check it out, but that just was not in the cards and now my brother has declined to play.
