The Council of Gladius

- The Fifth Meeting -

IMAGE(http://www.caterane.de/CoCo/Struktur/HouseCommons.jpg)

Welcome to the Council of Gladius! This thread is open for everyone and its main purpose is to discuss current issues, and the future of this board. The normal procedure is that the Game Master announces a topic which will then be discussed. To find a quick solution, you should stay focused on that topic and not open a new one. Your opinion is valued here so add your 2 cents and participate in the discussions.

If you have a rules question or need a clarification, better ask in the [thread=780187]Tavern[/thread] thread to start off with, or the [thread=787624]Courtroom[/thread] if the question turns out to need an Elder decision.

Why'd you exclude the Wyrmling Prismatic Dragon?

Also - Werewolf lord should go under templated monsters

I'm not too certain we want to feature a pair of 11-headed hydras, especially with their limited maps to be on (not because they would be exceptionally nasty - but because the grouped creatures should probably have fewer map restrictions in general. Also - since you already have a hydra as a templated creature - I would drop one or the other in the first place for the sake of variety.

Entry #20 should be 3 critters - unfortunately - Half-Dragon Cerebrilith is CR12, so you'll need something else there.

In previous lists, I have done grouped dragons (good/evil) to reduce the chances of any individual fight being a dragon fight. In the higher ECLs though (say ECL11+) - I think its fine though.

Also - for ECL11+ - do we want to include a category of advanced monsters to help flesh out the lists a little? These would have the same frequency as the templated creatures and should only be advanced one CR (so as to avoid 20HD advancements for only +5 CR...).

Okay - so yes it does seem the river question is resolved:

The Stream: The water stream is 4 feet deep. There are several ways to cross it. You can jump or fly over it, you can use the slippery stones with a DC 15 Balance check, or the fallen log with a DC 10 Balance check. Anyone failing by 5 or more falls into the water and ends up prone; failing by 1-4 simply results in no movement. Medium and Large creatures need 4 squares of movement per square; small creatures must swim (DC10); huge and larger creatures treat it as difficult terrain only.
The Swamp: The swamp (light green squares in the center) is 4 feet deep and counts as Deep Bog (medium creatures need 4 squares of movement per square; small creatures must swim (DC 10); Move silently DC+2; provides cover; see DMG p88; huge and larger creatures treat it as difficult terrain only).

Okay - with regard to the flight rule - a quick vote would help me:

1. Remove the house rule entirely, only have a flight exception for the Sewers
2. Remove the house rule and have exceptions based on the map
3. Leave them as is with a clarification to hopefully remove some of the confusion about them.

I'll go with 1. The sewers are the big one for this, I'd say, and the map-based alterations Telin proposed basically only add restrictions to that, the city, and forest, and I feel the proposal for the forest is too complex, and am not convinced of the necessity of the city rule.

1. or 4. depends on what the exception for the sewer exactly is.

4 would be: ban map-based flight rules entirely, but clarify that a large flyer is always within the water in the sewer anyway, and thus always is in difficult terrain. )

1. (with the note that all Large-sized flyers are affected, not just winged ones -- as whitebaron noted above)

Updated 1 to indicate no large flight at all. If that changes anyone's vote - please note it (if it doesn't - no need to post to confirm).

Usually, if I don't find a thing in sovelior/sage, I switch to d20srd (the contrary, actually). Why couldn't you do the same?

because i assume that it's complete.

because i assume that it's complete.

As it seems, it's not.

As it seems, it's not.

yes, that's a pity. however, we should pick an srd, and stick with it. if it's d20srd, no problems, i can switch. but i don't want to have to look through 4 sources, and no telin, i don't want to use the wizards rtf either - it lacks some ease of use. i want search functions!

The simple answer is that the wizards RTF are the primary source other than the actual books. If you choose to use an online SRD - it is up to you to make sure it is complete and accurate. I'm not saying you need to use 4 sources.

If this is that much of an issue - I can add links to things that are missing from whatever is seen as the default - but since I use the wizards rtf - I don't necessarily know what is missing.
