| #2LinkNJun 18, 2009 12:36:43 | Drow Your team begins in the Northeast box. |
| #3post_ironicJun 18, 2009 12:59:23 | |
| #4whitebaronJun 19, 2009 5:38:53 | starting pos etc masoj start with bow, brizza with handcrossbow. both move out stealthily and ready twin strike/sly flourish. |
| #5LinkNJun 19, 2009 13:18:58 | Brizza does something. Romulus steps out of the starting box and soon finds himself dodging a bolt from Brizza's crossbow. Sons Romulus has moved 3 squares and has 2 remaining. |
| #6post_ironicJun 19, 2009 13:40:18 | |
| #7LinkNJun 19, 2009 13:51:57 | Romulus quarries Brizza and charges her, hitting but not as solidly as he'd like. Drow Brizza takes 10 damage and is at 36/46 HP |
| #8post_ironicJun 19, 2009 15:19:26 | |
| #9LinkNJun 19, 2009 16:46:56 | Edit: Rules conflict, effect of this post removed. All related rolls will be deleted. |
| #10whitebaronJun 19, 2009 17:03:06 | actually, there's a rules violation: mephodyn can NOT charge there. he has to charge to the nearest square, that's the square romulus is already standing in. |
| #11LinkNJun 19, 2009 23:19:16 | Ah, you are correct. I had misremembered the text of Charge and thought that it implied you would move to the nearest available square if the closest one was occupied. Changes to Mephodyn's turn, post? |
| #12post_ironicJun 19, 2009 23:58:25 | Sons Move to end of first position, cast Sanctuary on Romulus. |
| #13LinkNJun 20, 2009 0:29:23 | Mephodyn moves out of the starting box and casts Sanctuary on Romulus. (This is the position you intended, correct?) Masoj is up. |
| #14whitebaronJun 20, 2009 3:25:25 | actions Masoj will move to here stealthily, quarry and use Splintering shot: Brizza then shifts 1S, throws up a cloud of darkness, quickdraws her vicious dagger and attacks with walking wounded. btw: should i get lucky in any round and drop my opponents, wait for optional AP usage. (currently both characters have APs left) |
| #15LinkNJun 20, 2009 11:02:00 | |
| #16whitebaronJun 20, 2009 11:18:57 | Show masoj does not have superior cover anywhere. so if you rule that he is not hidden, (which i'd doubt since total cover equals hidden to start with) that's ok for me too - but move to the square specified. i have my reasons to want to stand there. ![]() |
| #17LinkNJun 20, 2009 11:30:19 | Drow It was ruled previously that characters cannot "start" the fight with a stealth check. If you like I can try asking about it again, but as there's no difference (attack roll 26 vs AC 25 without CA), I'm not going to worry about it. |
| #18whitebaronJun 20, 2009 11:39:42 | look in the sblock above for brizza's action. ![]() |
| #19LinkNJun 20, 2009 11:52:40 | I really shouldn't be doing CoCo right after I wake up... Brizza shifts south and creates a cloud of darkness, blinding Romulus. While he cannot see her, the shield around him is still enough to protect him from the brunt of Brizza's attack. He is, however, bloodied. Sons Romulus takes 6 damage and is at 22/50 HP. |
| #20post_ironicJun 21, 2009 15:30:14 | Sons Somewhat complicated set of actions this round. Here goes: In response to Brizza's hit, have Romulus Yield Ground (immediate reaction), moving as shown and increasing his defenses. After the Yield ground shift, Romulus will activate Longtooth Shifting, move as shown, and strike Masoj with Frenzied Skirmish, hopefully dazing him. Note that frenzied skirmish grants movement after the attack, which Romulus will use in this fashion: Mephodyn will move as indicated on the above map and use a healing word on Romulus. He will then ready a charge against the first opponent that shows him or herself. |
| #21LinkNJun 21, 2009 17:06:33 | Realized I forgot to say it before and the text may be unclear: Brizza had used Walking Wounded as her last attack. It missed, but still dealt half damage. (Not SA damage though, as that only works on a hit.) After Brizza swings at Romulus, he yeilds ground to her, shifting around the hedge. His appearance transforms into a more bestial form as he activates his racial powers, and he continues moving around the hedge to where Masoj is hiding inside the cloud and tries to hit him with a frenzied skirmish. While he cannot see his target, Masoj likewise cannot see the attack, and Romulus's second swing connects, dazing the drow. Romulus moves away again as part of the action. Mephodyn moves up to Romulus and heals him. Drow Masoj takes 9 damage and is at 41/50 HP. He is dazed until the end of Romulus' next turn. |
| #22whitebaronJun 21, 2009 17:36:40 | actions Brizza moves 1e, and uses blinding barrage on Mephodyn. She then uses her AP for trickster's blade on Mephodyn. Masoj will use nimble Strike to shift 1S before his attack on Romulus, and then AP for Thundertusk Boar Strike (push 1 SW) |
| #23whitebaronJun 21, 2009 17:52:18 | when just looking at the roller, i realized you had not counted in brizzas CA and nimble blade for the walking wounded attack. (it still misses) |
| #24LinkNJun 21, 2009 19:14:37 | Yeah - I tend to sometimes forget about adding in conditional bonuses/penalties to attacks (CA, feats, cover/concealment) when I type it into the roller. Usually though, when the attack is close, I check back for anything I might have missed and tally it up manually... here though, it wasn't necessary (you needed another +11 to hit his 25 AC) :P Drow As for Brizza's turn, did you mean shift 1 west instead of 1 east? Moving east puts him directly on the other side of a 10-foot-thick hedge... |
| #25whitebaronJun 22, 2009 1:31:55 | west... east.... all the same. ![]() sure, i meant west. i do that mistake all the time... |
| #26LinkNJun 22, 2009 1:51:12 | Brizza shifts to the east and tries to throw a Blinding Barrage at Mephodyn, but only manages to scratch him Miss. She tries again with a Trickster's Blade, this time hitting the cleric, and granting herself extra defenses. Her dark cloud then dissipates. Once Mephodyn is able to see her again, he charges, but the extra defense and cover from the corner of the hedge keep the attack from hitting. Masoj uses a Nimble Strike to shift partway around the corner and fire an arrow at Romulus. The attack hits and bloodies the ranger, and Masoj uses an action point to try a Thundertusk Boar Strike, but both arrows miss their mark. Sons Mephodyn takes 6 and 15 damage and is at 24/45 HP. Romulus takes 17 damage and is at 24/50 HP. |
| #27post_ironicJun 22, 2009 1:59:40 | Sons Shouldn't Mephodyn's readied charge go off after Brizza's cloud disappears? Additionally, Masoj doesnt have LOS from where he is depicted in the map, though it sounds like he moved one square south. |
| #28whitebaronJun 22, 2009 2:09:05 | sneak attack is missing, and you missed the additional +3 from nimble blade again. (did not hit either, but it was more close this time) oh and: stop rolling 4 or lower with brizzas attacks. ![]() --edit--- Show oh and, use unbalancing parry on the next miss to masoj |
| #29LinkNJun 22, 2009 11:47:47 | You didn't have CA for either attack, since you were not hidden for either attack (there was no LoS to your space, but you also need to have a high enough stealth check or your target needs to have some effect that grants you CA). Brizza's stealth check was 16, which didn't beat Mephodyn's passive perception. Regardless, she would have lost her hidden status as soon as she made an attack, thus she would not have had CA for Trickster's Blade if Blinding Barrage did not hit. I did make a few other mistakes in the previous post however, so I am updating it now. Romulus and Mephodyn are up after edits are made. |
| #30whitebaronJun 22, 2009 12:37:16 | phb p. 280. left top. total concealment grants the same effects as invisiblity. (can't see attacker) that's the reason why cloud of darkness is so damn effective - it basically gives two rounds of CA at the cost of a minor action. even attacking twice does not change that. you're still hidden in total concealment. |
| #31LinkNJun 22, 2009 12:54:35 | Noted, and I'll have to keep this in mind for future fights - I was under the impression that the concealment allowed you to hide, and the cloud blinded other characters in it (giving you CA against anyone in the cloud), but I didn't realize that you could fail a hide check and still have CA. (I've been doing it wrong, don't know if anyone else has been.) Edit: Ok, that was a confusing half-round of combat. Problems should be fixed, so unless there are any more issues, Romulus and Mephodin are still up. |
| #32LinkNJun 23, 2009 2:32:57 | I need to finish this fight soon (probably before I go to work tomorrow afternoon), so I'm going to need tactics for the remainder of the fight from both of you. If I don't get tactics, I'll fight on "autopilot" (only using basic tactics and at-will powers) for whatever team doesn't give me tactics. |
| #33whitebaronJun 23, 2009 3:34:29 | note: Mephodyn is not up before Brizza. He can only charge when her turn/cloud ends, thus his turn is after her. tactics O_o Even though basic tactics (piercing +twin strikes) is ok for me, i've got some tricks still up my sleeve: Masoj A) masoj can heal himself, and will do so. (inspiring word) It's more important to keep him up than brizza. however, if it's 2on1 and brizza is close to going down, B) unbalancing parry => masoj will slide the opponent so he has a clear shot in his next round. C) cloud of darkness => masoj has still one cloud left. should be used to gain CA, if unbalancing parry was not possible. D) Masoj has still his bear trap left. He'll use it after unbalancing parry, or after cloud on an opponent without cover and CA. E) two-fanged strike. will be the next attack power after the daily. Use nimble-strikes instead of provoking, else use twinstrike from then on. Brizza she, too, has tricks left up in her sleeve: A) king's castle with the duelists dagger. draw the dagger, activate its power. gives CA and a net +2 to hit (-1 to hit from lower enhancement, +2CA +1 nimble blade) B) Last possible win: Intimidate. [note: her modifier is wrong. feel free to report this. should be +13 (4 cha 2 lvl 5 trained 2 racial)] It's a DC 29 and 26, but worth a shot if somehow I am about to lose. Doing damage is far more important. Brizza will attack with Piercing Strikes if in melee, Sly Flourishes if not. General Movement: Masoj will try to maintain a shift-back and fire strategy. Brizza will try to sneak up into flanking with Masoj, if at all possible. Note her +4 to OAs, so provoking one OA is ok to flank. and: ALWAYS CDG Romulus with twinstrike/slyflourish if there's the possibility to do so and Mephodyn is not yet down. ![]() |
| #34LinkNJun 23, 2009 9:55:47 | Hm... you're right, wb, not really sure why I thought otherwise... Still, Romulus is up. |
| #35post_ironicJun 23, 2009 12:05:59 | Sons Tactics Romulus will move as shown, and use Two-Fanged Strike on Brizza, followed by an AP for twin strike, if needed. Note that she is still my quarry. He will also use his Dwarven Armor free action to heal AFTER he has regenerated from Longtooth Shifting. Also, make sure he uses Disruptive strike on Brizza's next melee attack, regardless if she targets him or Mephodyn, unless of course she is dropped. Mephodyn will heal himself with a healing word, and attack his next target with Split the Sky, followed by an AP for Healing Strike + Divine Fortune. If he is in dire need of HP afterward, he will use his dwarven armor. He will also longtooth shift at the earliest opportunity (likely now, before he heals himself). General Tactics after the next round: Hopefully, Brizza will drop this round. If she isn't dead, go ahead and CDG her if there is an opportunity to. Masoj will the likely try to keep away from us and use his darkness, so try to maintain cover if we aren't in melee with him. If he uses cloud of darkness while my characters are in melee with him, use second wind and attack as soon as the darkness is gone. Use Righteous Brand and Twin strike from then on out. Make sure Romulus quarries Masoj after Brizza drops, and use disruptive strike/healing word judiciously after. EDIT: Here's the map, duh. |
| #36LinkNJun 23, 2009 13:11:09 | Alright, tactics accepted, no changes after this post will be allowed. Current HP/Initiative: Romulus: 24/50 (-2 attack rolls, +2 damage rolls, regen 2 while bloodied) Brizza: 36/46 (+4 AC until end of her next turn) Mephodyn: 24/45 Masoj: 41/50 (Dazed until end of Romulus's next turn) |
| #37whitebaronJun 23, 2009 13:26:21 | notes: * romulus has -2 to all attacks, which is not accounted for in the roller. * if romulus moves as shown on the map, he'll incur an OA for the last movement, with CA (squeezing) but cover. |
| #38post_ironicJun 23, 2009 13:30:06 | Romulus will move using diagonals, thereby not drawing an AO. (Didn't include in mapper, because it seems intuitive not to draw one.) |
| #39LinkNJun 23, 2009 13:37:02 | Round 4: Romulus moves and uses a Two-Fanged Strike on Brizza. One of the attacks critically hits, but the other misses. He uses the power of his Dwarven Armor to heal himself. Brizza drops her crossbow and draws her duelist's dagger, and swings at Romulus with a King's Castle. Romulus, ready for the attack, tries to retaliate with his own Disruptive Strike, trying to knock her off-balance, but instead manages to just flat-out KO the rogue. She doesn't stay down for long, however, and wakes up as soon as she hits the ground. Mephodyn casts a Healing Word on himself. He then decides to finish the rogue, but doesn't quite manage to knock her unconscious again. He tries again with a Healing Strike, and Brizza once again goes down. Masoj moves around the hedge, creates a cloud of darkness around himself, and tries to hit Mephodyn with a Hunter's Bear Trap, but only manages to scratch the cleric. Romulus: 50/50 (-2 attack rolls, +2 damage rolls, regen 2 while bloodied) Brizza: 1/46 Mephodyn: 32/45 (Slowed until end of Masoj's next turn) Masoj: 41/50 |
| #40LinkNJun 23, 2009 13:51:30 | Round 5: Romulus, wanting to ensure the rogue's death, strikes her with a Twin Strike. The attack hits, and Brizza is dead. Mephodyn, unable to attack the ranger, moves around the corner and readies a charge for when Masoj shows himself. Masoj fires a Two-fanged Strike at the partially-hidden cleric. Both attacks hit, and Mephodyn goes down. Romulus: 50/50 (-2 attack rolls, +2 damage rolls, regen 2 while bloodied) Brizza: Dead Mephodyn: -6/45 Masoj: 41/50 |
| #41LinkNJun 23, 2009 13:57:21 | Round 6: Romulus moves out and quarries Masoj, swinging twice. One attack hits. Masoj uses an unbalancing parry on the missed attack to shift Romulus into a less advantageous position. Brizza remains stable. Mephodyn's condition deteriorates. Masoj shifts away and uses a Twin Strike, and hits once (12) Romulus: 38/50 (-2 attack rolls, +2 damage rolls, regen 2 while bloodied) Brizza: -12/46 Mephodyn: -6/45 Masoj: 27/50 |
| #42whitebaronJun 23, 2009 14:00:36 | so... moving intelligently for the sons is ok (no OA, even though he described the movement differently), moving intelligently for the drow is not? my tactics specifies that i want to be able to shift + twin strike with masoj. setting myself into a dead end corner surely does not fit that tactic ![]() even without moving away, masoj could use unbalancing parry and slide romulus to 1 SE of his position, shift 1 N and still use twin strike... |
| #43LinkNJun 23, 2009 14:02:07 | Round 7: Romulus moves and Twin Strikes (16). Masoj shifts away and twin strikes (11), then uses Inspiring Word on himself (16). Both dying characters are stable. Romulus: 27/50 (-2 attack rolls, +2 damage rolls, regen 2 while bloodied) Brizza: -12/46 Mephodyn: -6/45 Masoj: 25/50 |
| #44LinkNJun 23, 2009 14:02:57 | so... moving intelligently for the sons is ok (no OA, even though he described the movement differently), moving intelligently for the drow is not? Yeah, I noticed the Unbalancing Parry bit now, redoing that portion of the fight. |
| #45whitebaronJun 23, 2009 14:03:08 | + masoj should use inspiring word on himself.A) masoj can heal himself, and will do so. (inspiring word) |
| #46post_ironicJun 23, 2009 14:09:30 | In my tactics I stated that Romulus should AP for Twin strike after Two-fanged striking Brizza. |
| #47LinkNJun 23, 2009 14:10:09 | My apologies, I'm usually not this sloppy with the "final" version of fights (I do tend to make a lot of mistakes that I catch myself on when doing tactics fights, but there I have plenty of chances to edit it before posting). I'm also trying to get this all done before I have to be at work in 20 min, so... yeah. |
| #48LinkNJun 23, 2009 14:12:07 | In my tactics I stated that Romulus should AP for Twin strike after Two-fanged striking Brizza. As I'm low on time and the end result is going to be a moot point (Romulus will have an unused Disruptive Strike, which he won't get to use on Masoj if he never stays in melee, and Brizza will still get right back up with a crit on her DST), I'm not going to bother going back and changing things right now, unless whitebaron objects to you saving an AP... |
| #49post_ironicJun 23, 2009 14:12:36 | No problem, I completely understand. I'm in no hurry, since I'm leaving town, and may not be able to activate the Sons next week anyway. |
| #50post_ironicJun 23, 2009 14:16:53 | What about Mephodyn's AP for Healing Strike with Divine fortune after Split the Sky? |
| #51LinkNJun 23, 2009 14:17:29 | Round 8: Romulus and Masoj both use Twin Strikes on each other, but neither character drops (17 Romulus, 24 Masoj). Meanwhile, Mephodyn's status deteriorates, while Brizza once again manages to wake up. Romulus: 3/50 (-2 attack rolls, +2 damage rolls, regen 2 while bloodied) Brizza: Dead Mephodyn: -6/45 Masoj: 8/50 Ok, I'm out of time, sadly... I should be back home around 7:30 Central time and will finish the rest of the fight (and have results) when I get back. |
| #52LinkNJun 23, 2009 14:20:44 | What about Mephodyn's AP for Healing Strike with Divine fortune after Split the Sky? At that time, Brizza was dying (again), he was at 42/45 HP, and Romulus was at 38/50 HP... |
| #53post_ironicJun 23, 2009 14:28:09 | Mephodyn casts a Healing Word on himself. He then decides to finish the rogue, but doesn't quite manage to knock her unconscious again... She's still up at that time, on Mephodyn's turn. He should finish her off, especially since she is prone. |
| #54whitebaronJun 23, 2009 14:54:23 | she is prone and has cover. ![]() |
| #55LinkNJun 23, 2009 20:08:05 | Alright, I'm back. And yes, I realize that this is far from my best fight... but, I should be able to patch together things without much of a problem. She's still up at that time, on Mephodyn's turn. He should finish her off, especially since she is prone. Yeah, I realized I did something wrong on my way to work.... The attack hit Brizza but didn't kill her, which makes Romulus's attack in round 5 a CDG (which does kill her), and she doesn't get up again later. It also means that Romulus has another 12 HP. Not going to bother going back and fixing the other posts unless you guys insist... Also, if anyone's reading the roller: The round numbers are off, I did round 5 twice somehow. |
| #56LinkNJun 23, 2009 20:11:50 | Round 9: Romulus steps up to Masoj and swings at him once more. He finally connects with an attack, downing the other ranger and ending the fight. Results up as soon as I run through the fight and find everything. Though honestly, it might be easier to just list what everyone didn't use... |
| #57LinkNJun 23, 2009 20:28:19 | Sons of the Hunt win, and gain 2 VP! Mephodyn spent an AP and 1 healing surge. Romulus used Frenzied Skirmish, Dwarven Armor, and 2 healing surges. The Drow Hunting Party loses, and gains 1 VP. Brizza used Walking Wounded, Blinding Barrage, and spent 1 healing surge. Masoj used Splintering Shot, Hunter's Bear Trap, and spent 1 healing surge. Ok, I think I got everything. Let me know if I missed something. |
| #58whitebaronJun 24, 2009 4:47:40 | question: how did brizza get hit by healing strike with an attack roll of 21 when she still had +4 to all defenses? it would be nice to see them rounds you did via tactics organized by round numbers so i know which condition is still active and which not, because, honestly, i'm confused by those events. |
| #59LinkNJun 24, 2009 12:31:42 | Brizza's turn had already come up again by then. She attempted a King's Castle against Romulus, was hit by his Disruptive Strike, and knocked unconscious. (She then got a critical saving throw at the end of that turn, waking her up but leaving her prone for Mephodyn's split the sky and healing strike). Also, I'll go through and edit everything with round numbers. Note that I'll also have to change round numbers in the roller to match (I did round 5 twice by mistake, so I'll have to bump up the round numbers for everything since then). Edit: Alright, round numbers are up, and the roller's been updated to match. |
| #60whitebaronJun 24, 2009 15:41:44 | round 6: masoj hits with one twin strike, dealing 12 damage round 7: damage is wrong. should be one more. round 8: masoj actually deals 24 damage there... and he should have like 24 HP then... round 6 roller: 1d20+10 should be: 1d20+10 +2 (unbalancing parry) +1 (prime shot) |
| #61LinkNJun 24, 2009 16:07:40 | Forgot about the parry, so you're right, he hits with one of those attacks. Let me go re-tally this... |
| #62LinkNJun 24, 2009 16:14:47 | Ok, re-edited. Results are still the same, Masoj gets one more hit in but all that does is cancel out the Healing Strike from Mephodyn that was edited in earlier. |
| #63whitebaronJun 24, 2009 16:21:44 | ok, let's see. Mephodyn drops in round 5. he has 24 in round 4. 50 in round 5. - how? i still don't get it... round 6 Masoj deals 12 damage. round 7 he deals 13 damage. (1 missing from roller) round 8 he deals 24 damage. unless the previous post was wrong anyway, and romulus was at full health, there's no way he could have outlived that. |
| #64LinkNJun 24, 2009 16:25:57 | Start of his round 4, he regens 2, going to 26. He uses his Dwarven Armor daily power, going to 38, and Mephodyn hits Brizza with a Healing Strike giving the surge to Romulus, putting him at 50. Edit: Just noticed I added wrong and Romulus took 2 more damage in round 5. Won't make a difference at all unless someone can point out more damage that he should have taken somewhere else, however. |
| #65whitebaronJun 24, 2009 16:33:22 | hmm, still have to wonder why you have the surge to romulus, though. post_ironic did not specify to do so, and mephodyn is also not at full... concering your edit; according to my summary above, if he is not at full at the end of his turn 5, he dies in round 8. |
| #66whitebaronJun 24, 2009 16:56:07 | i am currently doing a quick round-by-round writeup right now. it still seems to me there's something strange happening in this fight. will post once i'm done. |
| #67whitebaronJun 24, 2009 17:22:36 | ok, now i know what was fishy in here. you skipped one round and moved masoj back two places in the initiative order. see below: Round 1: Brizzas readied action misses. Romulus charges for 10. Mephodyn uses Sanctuary. Masoj hits with Splintering Shots for 22. Round 2: Brizza does cloud of Darkness and walking wounded miss for 6. Romulus Frenzied Skirmish for 9 on Masoj. Mephodyn Healing word on Romulus for 19. Masoj Nimble Strike for 17 and miss with thundertusk. Round 3: Brizza does blinding barrage (6) and tricksters blade (15) on mephodyn, mephodyn charges afterwards. skip.... Round 4: Romulus does two-fanged strike and uses his armor ability. Brizza acts gets dropped and rises again. Mephodyn hws(surge should be 11) himself and downs brizza again. Masoj does Hunters Bear Trap (should act before Brizza) Round 5: Romulus CDG Brizza, Masoj kill Mephodyn with two-fanged. Round 6: Romulus attack Masoj for 13. Masoj attack Romulus for 12. Round 7: Romulus attack Masoj for 16. Masoj attack Romulus for 11 and heals 14. Round 8: Romulus attack Masoj for 17. Masoj attack Romulus for 24. Round 9: Romulus attack Masoj for 11. Romulus HP #1 50-22 = 28 #2 28-6 = 22 + 19 hw = 41 -17 nimble = 24 #4 24+2+12=38+12=50 #6 50-12=38 #7 38-11=27 #8 27-24=3 Masoj HP #2 50-9 = 41 #6 41-13=28 #7 28-16+14=26 #8 26-17=9 Romulus ends up at 3+2 regen hitpoints. it's nice to see, however, that still with a Romulus d20: 17 rolls, 12.8 average vs. Masoj d20: 14 rolls, 9.8 average it's that close. means the team is better optimised. :D thnx @ both. at least know we know what seemed strange to me. sidenote: brizza would not have died if the fight has gone on with pbp, as masoj would of COURSE have brought up his cloud of darkness around brizza as well. (but that was a pitlords call) also, i have to say that i won't be doing seperate thread against post_ironic again unless he succeeds in upping his online time. having only 3 rounds by tuesday is very weak. other fights are finished in that timespan. |
| #68LinkNJun 24, 2009 17:50:03 | hmm, still have to wonder why you have the surge to romulus, though. post_ironic did not specify to do so, and mephodyn is also not at full... Mephodyn was at 43/45 HP when he made the attack however, so I don't think you could fault me for having him heal the guy that's missing more than 2 HP... As for the shifting initiative, the way you wrote your tactics for round 3, it seemed like you wanted Masoj to delay until after Brizza (you listed her tactics for the round before his). Which means that when Mephodyn charges with his readied action, it's right after Brizza and right before Masoj. Finally, there wouldn't have been any difference if Masoj put his cloud over Brizza; Romulus would still have attacked her before moving away, and the concealment from the cloud only cancels out the -5 defense penalty from being helpless. (There may have been a difference because Masoj would probably attack Romulus instead of Mephodyn in round 4, but honestly I can't justify changing the battle in that way.) |
| #69whitebaronJun 24, 2009 18:14:29 | 1: delay? huh? just because i wrote tactics for brizza first does not mean i want to delay. - it never does. delaying is very stupid in any battle where you just deal straight-out damage. brizza is just alphabetically before masoj, that's all. 2: masoj would likely throw up his cloud of darkness before brizzas turn. (and she could sw, but that was not in tactics either... just mentioning how stupid it is to give one player the advantage of being his turn and acting completely knowing that the other won't be able to react accordingly anymore, while he himself has to worry about no contingency for that round _at all_) 3: mephodyn was at 38, according to your own post. if masoj acts on the time he should act, he'd be at 32. --- i know you can't justify the changes. i'm just saying that i don't feel you played my characters to their roles and usual smartness. throwing up their clouds over each other has been their "shtick" since they ever started playing in the arena. |
| #70LinkNJun 24, 2009 18:24:48 | 1. Well, the characters act one after the other, the only time it would actually make a difference in initiative order is if someone uses a readied action during the second character's turn. Still, I will keep this in mind for your characters from now on. 2. Noted, at least if I'm understanding you right (you're saying that because post knew his character was up next he didn't have to have any kind of contingency for that turn, right?). Still, I don't know of any way to make that more fair - if you have a suggestion however, I'll gladly hear it. 3. He was at 38 after taking half damage from the missed Hunter's Bear Trap, which was after his own attack. Granted, if the initiative order didn't get shuffled around like it did things might be different... Also, don't get the wrong idea by these posts, I'm not trying to prove you wrong or myself right or anything like that, I just enjoy a good-natured debate about these kinds of things. |
| #71whitebaronJun 24, 2009 18:37:29 | @1: well, the turn was a-b-a-b from the teams. so they do not go after each other. missing out on an earlier attack might change a great deal. @2: basically, what i'm saying is, that it's often pretty unfair to do pbp first, and then switch to tactics. whoever is lucky enough to have one, or even two pcs act first, will know precisely what will happen in the next round, compared to the other player, who'll have to write tactics completely like for a normal pbt fight. had i known that they'd gang up on brizza a) masoj would have healed her, b) would have likely protected her with a cloud of darknes, c) she would never have attacked in melee against that disruptive strike, and so on, and so on. that's alot you'd do in a seperate thread that you don't do with tactics. but one side can do it - since it's their turn. --- and most of the time, the one having that advantage will be the one who posted less, and why the fight even needed to go into tactics-mode, which makes it feel even more unfair. |
| #72LinkNJun 24, 2009 18:41:27 | @2: Noted, however I can't honestly think of a way to prevent people from deliberate slow play but not unfairly punish those that end up not being able to post due to outside issues (computer crash, etc), or those that end up in a fight that takes far longer than normal (due to a lot of missed attacks, etc). @1: When Masoj's delayed turn first started it was a-a-b-b turn order (or a-b-b-a, but still), it only switched to a-b-a-b because of Mephodyn's readied charge. |
| #73whitebaronJun 24, 2009 18:51:54 | @1: the charge was already resolved when we posted tactics, so it was clear it would be a-b-a-b from then on. i even mentioned that to you. ![]() @2: yeah, well, any individual player or pitlord can make sure not to do seperate threads with people who tend to post slower or not even closely enough. between you and me, we have done 2 quest fights within one week. this even includes some roleplay, me being sick, discussion in between - but it is very obvious to me by now that i'll have to decline seperate threads to various players as a pitlord as well as an opponent. for the same fight, to worry for thread and tactics and run the fight then as a normal fight, is a lot of work to much for just a single credit. |
| #74LinkNJun 24, 2009 19:03:28 | @1: Sorry - misunderstood what you were saying, I think. I thought you were trying to figure out why I thought Masoj delaying would be acceptable (to which I replied, because it's either Masoj then Brizza, or Brizza then Masoj; he wouldn't be givinig any opponents a free attack unless they changed initiative with a delayed turn or readied action). @2: Well, to be fair, quests tend to be faster because there's only two people involved, so it's just I post and wait on you, you post and wait on me, instead of me, then you, then me, then your opponent, then me, then you, etc. |
