| #1LinkNJul 08, 2009 12:45:42 | Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. Rules of Sagaris All that you need to know is written in the [post=18116720]Rules of Sagaris[/post]. It could be useful also to give a look to the [POST=16408482]Court Decisions[/POST] Pairings GM TelinArtho will pair the active Characters of Sagaris after the deadline. The Character Roster will be the second post of this thread. Make sure that your character is not in [thread=1064195]prison[/thread]. Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller for the fight. If you need it, there is a nice [THREAD=551175]template[/THREAD] ready to use that will help. You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. If you need a quick and dirty tool to calculate distances between two points (in 2-D or 3-D), this tool should suffice. If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform me (TelinArtho). I cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. I have little time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact. Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN! If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Sagaris! Pitlords Active Pitlords 3.5E Pitlords[indent]

| #42LinkNJul 14, 2009 16:47:04 | Clarification on 3-way fights: At the end of a match, each dying or dead character gives 1 point to the team that last knocked them below 0 HP, the team that survived until the end of the fight gets 1 point, and whichever team has the most points wins. In the case of a tie, whatever team was the last one to have a conscious character wins. Correct? How does point scoring work with characters that surrender via Intimidate? |
| #43sjiggieJul 14, 2009 16:54:56 | I would treat surrender through intimidate the same as bringing a character below 0hp. Give the point to the team that used intimidate to let the other team surrender. |
| #44LinkNJul 14, 2009 17:22:59 | Alright. It turns out that it didn't matter, but that is good to know for future references. The 3-way fight is finished, and I'm currently writing up the summary. It'll be up soon. VP breakdown is 3 for the winning team, 2 for 2nd place, 1 for last, right? Edit: Hmmm... maybe not. The text that you have entered is too long (53104 characters). Please shorten it to 50000 characters long. Advice? |
| #45sjiggieJul 14, 2009 17:59:18 | make a second post with the fight and the result and put a link in each to the other post. This is how we did it in the 3.5 coco when character sheets of high level characters grew too big to fit the fight in 1 post |
| #46LinkNJul 14, 2009 18:17:37 | Alright, done. |
| #47lonewolfJul 14, 2009 19:21:16 | The Feyshadows vs The Outcast is [post=19023951]up[/post] Just after finishing it, I noticed a big mistake I made, namely that the feyshadows cannot be autospotted due to shadow walk. Since they won anyway, I hope that I dont have to fix this mistake, since it would result more or less a complete rerun. If you ask me to fix it anyway, I wont be able to do it before next pairings. |
| #48MindWandererBJul 14, 2009 19:40:17 | The Feyshadows vs The Outcast is [post=19023951]up[/post] I'm satisfied with those results. I hope Sjiggie is, too, because if he finds anything significantly in his favor, you may have to correct for the stealth as well to compensate. In fact, Sjiggie, even if you do find something that would help you, I ask that you carefully consider whether or not you'd like it to be addressed, because fixing the stealth will help me a lot. |
| #49sjiggieJul 15, 2009 5:01:54 | @Lonewolf: Just I question about the feyshadows vs The Outcast why did abyuuk never marked a target? No need to edit because it probably won't make a difference but just wondering Also you list Strike from the Past as on their last fight but they are on their second fight so you need to list resources spend. |
| #50lonewolfJul 15, 2009 5:08:42 | he tried, but there was never a chance to mark an enemy AND sustain the mark by moving next to him or attack him. and fixed on the second part |
| #51douglas_zuver_dupJul 15, 2009 10:32:05 | Alright, done. ![]() Comments-thanks for doing a good job on a complex battle. I am quite happy with two victory points along with a few resources left over for the fourth battle. Question to everyone: Is this the first time that intimidate has successfully been used to alter the course of a battle? Round 5: The dual striker team probably would have still won, but April (with a high Will defense) had lots of healing resources left to use and was inactive for much of the game. Should intimidate have a time limit on it? Such as forcing a surrendered foe to lose their next two or three turns and loss of game if all foes are surrendered/dead? The rules say you can force surrender (which should use up the foe's next turn) but it does say that the foe is hostile and there is no guarantee of what the foe will do after they have said that they surrender and possibly dropped their weapons. The arena fight situations just adds more complexity to the situation. For one point, a foe might be honor bound to maintain a surrender. For another point, intimidate losses all its value since there is no fear of death due to the auto resurrection feature of the arena. Anyway, this is a good case study for the intimidate debate (and the dual striker debate) and I am happy that the Spring Twins will level up after their next (fourth) battle. They will be back with the elite group again, I guess persistence pays! |
| #52yaouJul 15, 2009 10:39:48 | The fact that there is no true death doesn't make getting an arrow through the arm or a sword in your gut any less painful. I can see an intimidate check threatening a slow, excruciating death rather than a quick, relatively clean death. I know I'd take the clean death, given a choice. Or maybe just skip the death and surrender altogether, if the situation is already desperate enough that such a situation comes up. |
| #53XaviYagoJul 15, 2009 11:22:26 | I wanted to bring up the Intimidate debate when I saw it, too, but as the new person I didn't want to seem out of place. In my opinion, if one ally is forced to surrender via Intimidate, then the second ally should be allowed to have their own Intimidate check to get that person "back in the game". (Intimidate vs. Will without the +10 "hostile" modifier) And why not? If I drop someone into negetive hitpoints with an attack and then their teammates goes and heals them and brings them back into battle, then why can't a surrendered ally be brought back into battle by her teammate? Granted, if there is only one ally left when the successful Intimidate check is rolled, then it's game over for that team. (Unless someone from the third team brings them back with a successful Intimidate ![]() I tried to find out how the 4e CoCo rules handled Intimidate, but when I reviewed the Councilthread it lists Intimidate as unresolved even though it was brought up for review three months ago. |
| #54MindWandererBJul 15, 2009 14:40:55 | I argued against it because of the reasons you suggested, and because I see it as becoming an extremely powerful option as HP goes up. With Beguiling Tongue, Skill Focus, a Circlet of Authority/Crown of Command/Iron of Spite, and perhaps a racial bonus, it can become an automatic success against an opponent who doesn't have Cha or Wis as a primary attribute, and likely to succeed even then. Numbers: at level 9 we're talking as high as +27 vs. DC 28 for your typical dwarf or dragonborn fighter; at level 29, it's +44 vs. DC 45 assuming all Will-boosting feats are chosen. The "consensus" was to let it go for a while until it became obvious that it was broken. Naturally, I believe that it's only a matter of time. |
| #55post_ironicJul 15, 2009 16:19:36 | @Sal, lonewolf, and LinkN: I CAN FRIGGIN' LOG IN AGAIN! Disregard my PM. |
| #56LinkNJul 15, 2009 18:34:07 | Well first off, note that Kerat'kul could have spent an AP for an extra attack against April instead of Intimidate. However, while such an attack may be enough to KO her, it would very likely not have outright killed her. Essentially, Intimidate becomes another at-will attack power that only certain builds can take advantage of, that is guaranteed to outright "kill" a bloodied character if it hits. While there may be little difference between KOing a character and killing them if the other team doesn't have a heal to bring them back, it's still powerful. The fact that skill check bonuses are generally much easier to come by than attack bonuses means that even the lack of a magic weapon/implement boosting the roll is negligible. The +10 bonus that the target gets from being hostile is likewise partially offset by the +5 trained bonus, and a character built to use Intimidate will likely have a high Cha score as well (whereas his opponents will likely not be optimized in favor of Will defense). |
| #57lonewolfJul 15, 2009 20:22:54 | @postironic: I must say that the way you move my characters is suicidal. The plan was to flank Vratta and you had me set up a situation where Brag is flanked but the enemies are not. If in round 2 you have Halo delay after Brag, Brag can use Bait and switch to put Vratta in flanking position very easily. If you wont agree to change this, you might as well have me surrender, since there is no way in hell I can outdamage Vratta without sneak attack. PS: In any case, you missed Halos free combat superiority attack on Vrattas Rain of Blows. |
| #58post_ironicJul 15, 2009 22:12:24 | @lonewolf: while the fight isn't yet finished, the issue is twofold. first- delaying in fights when initiatives aren't established and evident to opposing sides is complicated, we have no real protocol for it here in CoCo. The second issue is one of timing. Since You moved out beforehand, and I randomly determined the direction you headed, you ended up exposing Brag to the enemy before Halo. As for the Combat Superiority attack, since Halo was also a target of the attack, I was under the impression that it didn't trigger. Am I wrong in this assumption? |
| #59salrantolJul 15, 2009 23:28:33 | As far as moving Vratta out, I don't know why you moved her out, even though it certainly appears to be working out. It shouldn't take Halo 10 rounds to explore the prison, so we're not in danger of a delay penalty here. Also, in round 2, when Vratta hits Halo, it stops him in his tracks. Vratta's a fighter, you know, and it's not a good idea to try to move past her. And, for the record, bloodcut armor really annoys me. |
| #60post_ironicJul 16, 2009 0:27:23 | Actually, Sal, I was referring to delaying actions of characters when an enemy has initiative between them. When a fight commences and opposing initiatives are unknown, its tough to adjudicate turn orders when someone delays so as to move their characters one after the other when the other team's initiative falls in between the two. While I wish I could have finished up this fight before the new pairings, I'll finish it up tomorrow, unless lonewolf still wants me to have his team surrender. I understand that the poor initial positioning is a problem for you, but its kind of just how things worked out in a crowded map. You'll note that gaining a flank in the prison map is pretty difficult. If you want to surrender and not waste any more resources, I'll do it. |
| #61lonewolfJul 16, 2009 5:22:25 | unkown initiative?? both Chirakka and Vratta just acted in round 2 so it was very clear that Brag and Halo can delay for each other without losing attacks.(Brag even delayed for Halo in round 1, so it was 100% clear that noone acts between them without knowing the enemies initiative) Also there are other ways of gaining a flanking position(Halo move & charge around the column) @Rain of blows: Vratta makes 3 attacks and one of them doesnt target Halo =>Combat superiority triggers Thats different from closed burst or area attacks where one attack hits multiple enemies. |
| #62salrantolJul 16, 2009 5:46:29 | @Rain of blows: Vratta makes 3 attacks and one of them doesnt target Halo =>Combat superiority triggers ?? How does Combat Superiority have anything to do with this? Vratta doesn't trigger any OAs. |
| #63lonewolfJul 16, 2009 5:47:29 | right, combat challenge of course |
| #64post_ironicJul 16, 2009 15:50:41 | Very well. I'll rework this from the beginning this week. |
