First of all, i don't think the forest is a good map for lvl 1 characters without the need to buff or ambush their opponents, but we will see.

Since MWB did not state it, i assume you are both on fight 2. So Tira/Erais lack the powers they used against Corrin/Riardon, Shahai and Kage the ones from the fight vs. MWB's characters.

Not much to put in. Move out together looking for them (but not too together, don't put ourselves in a position to both get hit by Scorching Burst). Cross the stream by fording it. When I find them, Erais will use Cascade of Light, Tira Eyebite. Primary target is Kage if both are found.

Since I have no clue how detection works, I'll assume Kage is leading by a few squares (5-10?) initially, using his higher stealth and perception skills. He'll fall back to Shahai once they've been spotted and try to engage at the same time (as opposed to being a 2 on 1).

Try to detect them as far away possible and engage as long range as possible. Ideally engage from 19 or 20 squares away with Shahai and Kage, although I doubt that's going to be possible in the forest.

If they're within 3 squares of each other, begin with Split the Tree. If adjacent, Acid Arrow. Otherwise, use Nimble Strike and Magic Missile at as long range as possible. If one comes with 10 squares, use Ray of Frost on them and continue keeping long range.

If targets are equally easy range/LOS wise, go for Erais first. Save Shahai's Hunter's Quarry for Erais (although if he goes down before becoming closest enemy, just use it on Tira). Kage should be Hunter's Quarry-ing who ever is being shot at the time.

@hirumajoes question:

Detection works as follows. you roll a Stealth check vs. the passive perception of your opponent. I don't know about 4e range increments for that, so i'll use -1 for 2 squares. As 4e is a lot about streamlining, i'm assuming you only do one stealth check for a duel like that, and on the result depends the distance you can see each other.

Round 1:
Kage moves out
Tira moves out
Shahai moves out
Erais moves out

Round 2:
Kage moves out
Tira moves out, auto-spotting Kage at the end of her turn.
Distance: 14 squares
Shahai moves out?
Erais moves out?

hirumajoe

most likely, Shahai will be up. I assumed her movement in the map, but you might want to do something differently.

Erais will move as shown. Otherwise, continue tactics as listed above. I'm going to want to look at how things are situated after first attacks before writing tactics for that part of the fight.

Question: What is water considered? Difficult terrain? (I.e. 2 squares of movement?) And does it require any kind of check to move through (such as Athletics?)

Tactics

If Shahai could double run and get 4 spaces closer to Kage (2 diagonal and 2 down) with cover from the tree that would be good (assuming Kage can yell out of turn that he's been spotted).

Unless Erais comes into view, on Kage's turn have him Hunter's quarry Tira and Nimble shot, shifting away, and then moving to get some cover and more range (ideally such that Tira can't move and get within 10 squares).

well... i believe sorry is in order. but this might actually take a bit longer than expected for me to run it.

about water: i'd say water should get an overhaul in 4e, and thus i'll give it a try at newer (4e-feel) rules:
  • water runs towards the center. you are shifted 1 square/round towards the swamp if contained within the water.
  • You can jump over the water using athletics (DC 10 per 1 square jump, running start halves.)
  • You can balance over the logs or the stones using acrobatics (DC 10 and DC 15)
  • You can swim in the water using athletics (DC 5 per 1 square swim as move action)
  • You can try to wade through the water at reduced speed (-3) DC 20/15/10 STR-check for small/medium/large characters - if you cannot do it in one round, you need to start to swim (unless you are large)

i believe we'll need a lot more of those combined options for 4e in the maps.
i'll do the fight update a little later (at work now) ...

For the record, I don't like that "stealth update" thing, where you post that you'll be updating later, and then just edit the post, so there's no notification.
tactics
Tira will move as shown below and use her Second Wind. Erais will use Healing Word on Tira, and then resume normal tactics, moving southwesterly.

Just realized an error on Kage's character sheet. The Lethal Hunter feat is believed to increase the Hunter's Quarry bonus damage from 1d6 to 1d8. So a critical technically does 23 damage. Sorry for the typo.

However, note that additional dice are not maximized on a crit. So it's 15+1d6.

@sal, hirumajoe, mwb: noted, will update with maps and coloring a bit later. (in a new post)

the extra damage was a natural one, so tira is at -16...

round 3 will continue as follows:
Tira moves south behind the tree and out of sight, uses Second Wind
Shahai moves south
Erais chants something (guess what) and moves out, sees Shahai out of range, tries to cross the river over the stones and falls into the middle!

round 4: kage moves, spots erais, declares her his quarry and shoots with nimble strike (miss)
tira moves south, tries to cross the river and falls into the same square as Erais... (*doh*)
Shahai declares erais her quarry and shoots with magic missile (miss)
Erais swims to the other side of the river. and crawls out to the shore.

(map update coming later)

For future reference, Shahai is supposed to be using Ray of Frost when they're within 10 squares - slow effect is handy. Not that it makes a difference since she can't hit the broadside of a barn.

Also, going forward its 1d10+1d8+5 damage for Kage (instead of 1d10+1d6+5), because of the Lethal hunter feat. Its my own fault for the initial copy and paste job. Who knows, the average 1 extra damage may make a difference.

Since we're still on Erais, and he's got a minor action available, yes, he will use his Healing Word on himself.
tactics
Tira will move up and use Eyebite on Kage. (note Prime Shot) Then Erais will move up and use Lance of Faith on Kage (with Tira getting the benefit). If he has to (e.g. Kage moves away enough that a single move won't get Erais within 5 squares), Erais will use an action point for a move action which he will use to move close enough to get in range for Lance of Faith. (Do not use the action point unless certain to get in close enough to use Lance of Faith.) If he hits, he will use Power of Amaunator.

Tactics

Kage will nimble strike Erais (with prime shot), shift 1 square away through the swamp, ignoring difficult terrain, and then run (move 9) to cover.

Shahai will attack Erais with Ray of Frost, using the 1/encounter wand power of +2 to hit (because she can't seem to hit anything...). She will then also move away to cover.

Further rounds: Try to get across the river (acrobatics in Kage's case on the stones), and continue to pelt from range, using Ray of Frost or Magic missile as situation warrants from Shahai.

If they let up on the pursuit, and there's a round where Kage has no good shots (or he'd have to get closer, use a healing surge).
