Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match.

News and Whatnot

This is an 'off' week for ECL10+.

Well the big news at the moment is Huan's first official draft of the rules for Sagaris (CoCo 4e). I haven't had a chance to look them over myself - but of course if you are interested - you should poke your head through them and see if anything falls apart.

Other than that - it appears to have been a pretty quiet week - though not for the number of fights. We're officially up to 60 fights run since restarting - which is nice and steady progress. The biggest thing to me is that we've had a number of new faces and a number of old hands come back.

In other news - this past week was Erithmu's birthday - which reminds me that I don't have someone to keep track of those for those pesky birthday credits. Not sure what I'll do about it yet, but stay tuned.

New Rulings - Courtroom

  • None

Current Discussions
  • Obsidian Steed (Figure of Wondrous Power) - what's its CR? (for prebuffing and for rewards)
  • Metamorphic Transfer - what are its limitations?
  • Daylight vs Control Light - last chance to offer votes on it.

The Council Decisions/Revelations
  • Ego Whip is Banned. Characters with it or with specific countermeasures can apply to the Training Hall for free changes.
  • Clarifying vocal and somatic components with non-standard casters - Telepathy is out, Vocalization is not valid for spellcasting, any language capability is. Somatic are still up for discussion.
  • EL7 list for monster fights hasn't had a huge amount of discussion, but as of now will be used for monster fights.

Current Topics
  • Adjustments to the EL3 monster list. I would like to see some comments on how people feel about it.
  • Adjusting the ally "penalty" to an actual penalty - looks like this topic is closed due to enough people preferring to keep the allies as they are rather than change them.

Idle Conversations

These are topics that have died down but had nothing come of them. We may reinvest time into them should they continue to be an issue.
  • Council - Mechanics of the "Awaken" spell is currently being discussed in the council.
  • Council- Delay rules are still being discussed.
  • Courtroom - Sauro wishes an elder decision on using an intelligent cohort as a mount. [and what tricks/training it requires]
  • Council - There is a discussion on how quickly you should be able to aquire ethereal equipment.
  • Courtroom- The rules for Ride and Handle Animal are under discussion.

Thanks for the run Zevox, if not the rolls.

I'm a little tired so please bare with me if I'm mistaken, but since I am Invisible should he not have a miss chance of 50% even if he has pinpointed me ?

Energy stun is a 10ft (or 5ft) blast. Not targeted.

Zevox

Thanks for the run.
@your comment: In his 10 fights Max only has used Share Pain twice now. Its just the ability to create those high level Astral Constructs that make him work reasonably well.

Fight's up (Darrgon vs. Morro)

Morro has armor spikes so he should get an AoO when Darrgon cast grease. I had hoped my high AC would be enough but although the Ape's average d20 was 11.1 the numbers seem grouped around 20 and 2. Not much I can do about that.

@Yitzi - rewards are a bit off in Darrgon vs Morro - Darrgon's base pay should be 1500xp/1600gp - not 1500gp.

Also the "if needed" isn't in reference to the free activity - it is a note to myself that he doesn't go active unless we are short on gladiators at that ECL. Now that we're seeing better populations, I'm going to stop doing that though - hoping that people will be active enough on their own

One major problem though, maybe. My friends and I may have just been playing wrong all this time.

Ok, so a medium player without reach can make a melee attack into a square directly lateral or diagonally from his position, right? In this case, he could hit an opponent directly across from him or one 5 ft. above that square?

Then, high ground is a bonus granted when you make a melee attack from above the opponent's position? So, a raptorian with improved flight(a fly speed with good manueverability) could make melee attacks from 5 ft. in the air and gain a bonus from high ground? He doesn't get the bonus from just hovering at 0 ft. would he?

So, if you gain a high ground bonus from being mounted on a large creature, aren't you at least 5 ft. in the air?

And as such, couldn't you make melee attacks against an opponent 0 ft., 5 ft, or 10 ft. in the air as long as he's directly across from you? In this case, melee opponents on the balcony(which is not a roof)?

If not, well...that was a pretty serious flaw in my tactics. Silly cover. :P

Your understanding of the spacing and reach rules is correct. Well, mostly, anyway - technically someone mounted on a large creature isn't 5 ft in the air, he's just sharing the same space as his mount, and so for space purposes counts as being large instead of medium. The high ground bonus is a special rule specifically for mounted characters. Those rules are probably meant to simulate what you said, though.

Your problem, though, is that to do this you'd need to get to the other side of that hedge, meaning a jump check, and since there's no way you can get a 20' running start, its DC 40 - I don't think your horse can make that. And even then, he'd still have cover (if you think about it in 3D, it'd be pretty much the same as attacking an enemy from around a corner).

@hogarth - Miniquest has been edited. A couple of notes:

1. I didn't record precise positioning. I just made it as if a)you always denied a charge, b) the griffon always positioned to set up a charge, but always resorted to a move and attack. Since it wasn't changing altitude, it had plenty of movement to maintain the minimum 40ft forward per round.

2. The rolls were modified as follows: +3 (for using the bite instead of the claw/rake when applicable) -2 (for not charging) +1 (for higher ground, which I had neglected in the original run by accident).

3. All rolls were taken in order as needed and new ones rolled and added in round 20 of the roller.

What really hurt you this time was that the confirmed criticals were always on the bite attack - which is a big difference in damage potential. Since it rolled several criticals - that was bound to be a problem for you.
