| #42lonewolfJan 21, 2009 15:14:04 | @Telin: Your thread is also up. Any special reason why so many monsters were removed from the old list? I rolled on the old one first and got 2 Thought eaters, which are no longer present. I rerolled on the new list. |
| #43TelinArthoJan 21, 2009 15:28:56 | There were several items from the last major discussion about monster lists which bred the new guidelines for creating a monster list. Here are the biggest two: 1. The existing monster lists were molded into a list of 100. There wasn't any particular reason for 100 distinct monsters which at the higher ELs meant that quite a few needed to be created from scratch - which was a lot of work for pitlords. 2. The existing monster lists had a couple of entries including a large (relatively) number of critters - 4 or even more. Not only are these tough to pitlord effectively (because that's a lot of pins) but it is also a lot of work for pitlords. There was also supporting evidence that 4+ monsters proved to be an "easier" monster fight - as the CR of the monsters were much lower. As such, the new list restricts the maximum number of critters to 3. The new monster list uses all of the eligible monsters of a particular CR. Once that list is known, I use a set (relatively) proportion of other entries for 2 critters, 3 critters, 1 templated critter, 2 templated critters, 3 templated critters, 1 classed critter, 2 templated critters, 3 templated critters. The emphasis is to make it easier on the pitlord while preserving a good variety. @wb - let me look at his sheet and see whether there is a reasonable solution. As far as customizing monster feats - that should not be done except in the case of classed creatures/advanced creatures that have gained more feats than the entry lists. Maybe it is an item to consider though for a future date - for now though - that should not happen. |

A status effect expires during the round it is due to expire once the character it is affecting starts their action, not at the beginning of the round. So during round 6, Alton makes his grasp vs Scarlett while she's blinded, and during round 7, the ray occurs while she's stunned. And the initiative reset thing doesn't make a difference in fights with only two characters, since it never changes the order of their actions. Ehr, "during round 6, Alton makes his grasp vs Scarlett while she's blinded, and during round 7, the ray occurs while she's stunned." That is what actually happened... I actually rolled the grasp while she's blinded and the ray while she's stunned (else the gnome would have taken an AoO) the status effects listed after "end of round X" are the effects in charge at the end of the round. Initiative didn't "reset" because the order remained the same, but the gnome cast the spell during round 5. Stunning duration is 2 rounds, Blinding duration is 1 round. Therefore, blinding wears off during round 6 after the gnome's action (grasp), and stunning wears off during round 7 after the gnome's action (ray). I notice now that I misread the "stunned" status and didn't count the loss of AC. I'll edit the fight, but it won't make any difference ;) |
| #83zevoxJan 23, 2009 17:23:34 | Ah, I see. You didn't remove the effects at the wrong times, you just didn't apply the stunned condition properly. I'm guessing that in addition to missing the -2 to AC you also missed that she won't get her dexterity to AC, since if you hadn't the ray would have hit (no dex to AC puts her touch AC at 12, the result of the ray attack roll). No big deal, as we've all said, it changes nothing, so no need to edit it. Just something to remember for the future. Zevox |

| #87dulsiJan 24, 2009 16:19:44 | Morro vs. Vallgar is [post=17704527]up[/post] My tactics aren't very well written but I believe this "If in hand to hand with minion, switch to flail and take him out." should take precedent rather than shoot and get AOOs. |
| #88turansonJan 24, 2009 16:34:04 | HHmm well I though that the first part Start with magic bow in hand. Would be what you wanted as it was possible, and the part about melee was if Vallgar was out of sight. I do see you point that it could be read such that you should go for the flail but as I believe it is a judgement call, I won't change it. Unless Telin believes as you, that you should have gone for the flail, in that case I'll make the edit. |
| #89TelinArthoJan 24, 2009 23:58:31 | Given that he had already switched to the flail - and thus would waste a round - I certainly think it is reasonable for him to continue with that tactic. I am fine with the fight either way. |
| #122TelinArthoJan 27, 2009 9:39:51 | Picture a stinking cloud in the middle of a sewer with a caster on each end of the cloud - all out of LOS to each other... waiting for said cloud to dissipate. And the occasional brute braving the cloud, trying to make his save so that he can make just one attack... Interesting fight so far - too bad no one can see through the cloud... |
