| #2whitebaronMay 21, 2009 4:57:00 | setting up rules for immediate reactions: better tell me upfront when you want to use no opening etc. i won't let you use it after i rolled. |
| #3post_ironicMay 21, 2009 8:12:15 | |
| #4lonewolfMay 21, 2009 16:08:40 | Starting position Brag starts with dagger and crossbow in hands. Halo starts with javelin and shield in hands. Round 1 actions(assuming no LOS): Brag will delay after Halo if necessary. Both move out and ready to throw dagger/javelin on LOS. Use No opening on any encoutner or daily attack power with combat advantage |
| #5whitebaronMay 21, 2009 17:11:31 | Now that everyone is on position, there's just one thing remaining: LET THE FIGHT BEGIN Romulus was the first to hear the bell, and starts this combat. Let's see what the shifter will bring to the table. Romulus 22+ Halo 22!- Mephodyn 17 Brag 15 post_ironic i already know what halo will do, so post up movement + actions for both please. |
| #6post_ironicMay 22, 2009 11:11:28 | |
| #7whitebaronMay 22, 2009 12:27:55 | Romulus silently moves out, while Halo clunks to his next stop. |
| #8post_ironicMay 22, 2009 12:33:21 | Sons Romulus will inform Mephodyn of Halo's whereabouts. Mephodyn will instead ready a Sanctuary against any incoming attacks. |
| #9whitebaronMay 22, 2009 12:46:42 | Mephodyn takes a move straight through the hedge {Stealth: abysmal}, and now half of the participants locations are known. @pi: done. @lonewolf: changes or continue? |
| #10lonewolfMay 22, 2009 16:19:36 | continue |
| #11whitebaronMay 22, 2009 16:40:18 | Brag takes an example of Mephodyn, and goes crushing through the hedge as well. {Stealth=8!} Romulus turn again. |
| #12post_ironicMay 23, 2009 12:33:06 | Sons Why is Romulus in the hedge? Is this just a map error, or is it to show that he is hidden? Move like so, stealthily: Both enemies should see Romulus. If they have any readied attacks that trigger on sight, it should trigger Mephodyn's readied Sanctuary. Next, quarry Brag, charge him, then Action Point for Jaws of the Wolf. New map will look like this: |
| #13whitebaronMay 23, 2009 17:36:13 | @post_ironic: yes, romulus is in the hedge to hide his true position (mapper would not work with no player 1 like that easily) Romulus, yet another one to try to move stealthily, howls loudly as he fights his way through the hedge. Brag and Halo can hear him quite clearly, and see him easily as he moves to the corner of the hedge. Both throw their weapons at him, but miss. He then charges Brag, dodging Halos OA and hits him hard, and follows this up by trying to beat him up even harder {Jaws of the Wolf}, but fails twice to connect due to Halos masterful mark. (mark missing in roller) Even though Brag survived, he is still bloodied. lonewolf 25+7+6 damage to Brag, he is at 1 HP |
| #14post_ironicMay 23, 2009 19:50:04 | Mephodyn No problem on not using Sanctuary, especially since they all missed . Move as shown, using last part of movement for a charge against Brag (The provoked AO is fine; if it connects: free action to use Dwarven Armor for a healing surge). If he goes down (I imagine he is low after Jaws of the Wolf), conclude turn. If not, action point for Split the Sky with Divine Fortune. |
| #15whitebaronMay 24, 2009 2:42:26 | Mephodyn, hearing his brother in distress for not connecting on Brag to well, charges into the fray as well. Halo tries to stop him from hitting his larger friend, but misses when trying to stop Mephodyn in his tracks. Infuriated, he calls on divine help {ap, divine fortune} and finally connects - splitting Brag from the sky with his dagger, downing him. lonewolf Brag is at -6 |
| #16lonewolfMay 24, 2009 4:15:27 | d20: 8 rolls, 5.8 average![]() actions Halo uses healing word on Brag[minor], drops the javelin[free], draws his longsword[minor], Attacks Mephodyn with Spinning Sweep[standard] and spends his action point for a sweeping blow on both of them[standard]. If Mephodyn is prone, Brag stands up[move] uses predatory Eye[minor] and Bait and Switch on him[standard] shift 1E after switching places. Otherwise I will post actions after Halos turn is done |
| #17whitebaronMay 24, 2009 5:30:44 | This is an outrage! Halo heals {Healing Word} Brag back to the living, drops his javelin, draws his sword, spins around and drops Mephodyn prone{Spinning Sweep}, then follows it up with an all-around blow {Sweeping Blow}on both shifters, which fails to penetrate Romulus Hide but connects on the prone cleric, who frantically activates his armor in response {Dwarven Armor} Brag then swiftly stands up, roars his outrage as well{Predatory Eye} and does the old bait and switch with Mephodyn, barely baiting him enough, switching places and then shifting away. Mephodyn is bloodied and prone. lonewolf Healing Word Brag: 12. |
| #18post_ironicMay 24, 2009 11:37:27 | Sons Grr... blasted healing saving Brag. Romulus quarries Brag and hits with for Two-Fanged Strike. He will attempt to Disruptive Strike the next attack made against Mephodyn (if possible) or himself (if necessary). Mephodyn will Healing word (minor), second wind (standard), and stand (move). |
| #19whitebaronMay 24, 2009 11:58:51 | post_ironic, problems ok on the healing - but you didnt realize brag is out of romulus reach, right? (see map above.) he bait and switched, which means he changed space with mephodyn and then could shift 1... so either: attack halo or move towards brag and get an OA on movement. |
| #20post_ironicMay 24, 2009 13:49:12 | whitebaron Oops, the map looked the same except for the swapped Mephodyn/Brag. Go ahead and have Romulus attempt movement toward Brag. If the AO from Halo stops him, quarry and attack Halo instead with Twin Strike. Mephodyn should be unchanged. Remember to Disrupt when possible, particularly if an attack is made on Mephodyn. Also, if Romulus is later hit, I'll probably use Yield Ground to try and shift toward Brag/gain a flank. Sorry about the confusion. |
| #21whitebaronMay 24, 2009 15:10:31 | Just as he was getting a bit too cocky, Romulus got a quick reminder that it is never a good idea to ignore a fighter. The stubborn dwarf would not let him move around him {OA on move hit}, and Romulus is stopped on his first step already. He quarries Halo, and hits him with one of his twin strikes. Mephodyn stands up, heals himself a bit, and then steadies his own resolve{Second Wind, Healing Word} lonewolf 8 damage to halo, he is at 38 |
| #22lonewolfMay 24, 2009 15:23:56 | actions Halo uses Tide of Iron on Romulus to push him south and follows. If successful, he will then shift 1W. Brag will then use tumble to get into flanking position on Mephodyn, attack with piercing strike and activate his cloak of Resistance. On a miss of Tide of Iron, hold and let me think of a new plan. Assuming this works: If Romulus tries to move north, wait to do the OA until there is no cover. |
| #23whitebaronMay 24, 2009 15:31:44 | Halo tries to push Romulus further away, which Romulus tries to distress with a Disruptive Strike of his own. Even though Romulus did not hit on the attack, Halo misses. Halo has move and minor left, then Brag is up |
| #24lonewolfMay 24, 2009 15:39:03 | action Halo ends his turn. Brag moves 2 SE and uses second wind. |
| #25whitebaronMay 24, 2009 15:54:20 | Brag moves somewhere to the east, and disappears behind the hedges. He is not really quiet, but nevertheless manages to keep his exact location hidden. lonewolf Brag ist at 21, second wind taken |
| #26post_ironicMay 24, 2009 16:47:56 | Sons Romulus will delay for Mephodyn. Mephodyn should not be marked any longer, since Halo didnt swing at him last turn. He will shift to flank, then swing with a healing strike, granting himself the healing surge. If it fails, he will use healing word on himself. Romulus does not need to quarry Halo (since he should already be his quarry- if I'm wrong, quarry Halo), so will make an active perception (minor) and announce Brag's position. He will then attempt a Two-Fanged strike. If he is hit later on, please use Yield Ground to improve defenses and move to the most advantageous position possible (ie: maintain flank if Halo moves, or find Brag if Halo happens to drop). If not, use it anyway and don't move to improve defenses. |
| #27whitebaronMay 24, 2009 17:36:39 | Romulus waits for his brother and the opportune moment. Mehodyn shifts into flanking position, and tries to heal and strike at the same time {Healing Strike}, but misses. He then instead heals himself back to uninjured. {Healing Word} Romulus then tries to pinpoint Brag, but fails in doing so. He then goes ahead and delivers a devastating two-fanged strike on a well aware Halo{no opening}, leaving him bloodied. lonewolf 20 damage to halo. he is at 18. |
| #28lonewolfMay 24, 2009 17:43:06 | actions Halo delays after Brag. Brag moves into flanking position and attacks Romulus with Torturous Strike. Halo attacks Romulus with Reaping Strike, uses Second Wind and shifts 1W. |
| #29whitebaronMay 24, 2009 18:08:24 | Halo calls out for Brag to catch up. Brag moves in, flanks Romulus and attacks with a torturous strike. Romulus yields some ground, but stays at the same spot. Halo then uses a reaping strike, misses but still drops Romulus. post_ironic ouch. Romulus is at exactly 0 HP. i did not have you shift away on yield ground, as this would have given him an additional attackwith CC and this is very risky with just one HP left. |
| #30post_ironicMay 25, 2009 11:36:23 | Mephodyn Ok, desperate gambit time. Mephodyn will shift one SW (Halo doesn't have him marked, so no problems here) and use a Heal check (DC 10) to activate Romulus' Second Wind. As a minor action, he will pray for crits. Assuming this works, Romulus will stand, activate Longtooth shifting, then attack the quarried Halo. |
| #31whitebaronMay 25, 2009 11:56:47 | Mephodyn shifts and prays for crits. He then activates his brothers second wind, bringing him back to life. Romulus stands up, calls on his more bestial side{Longtooth shifting}, and attacks Halo, connecting once. P&E is up lonewolf Halo took 10 damage and is at 19. |
| #32post_ironicMay 25, 2009 12:38:49 | whitebaron Glanicing at the roller, I'm not sure if you included Romulus' bonus damage from Longtooth shifting, or the bonus +wis damage from Two-Fanged. Just checking, cause every little bit counts at this stage of the fight. |
| #33whitebaronMay 25, 2009 12:48:23 | post_ironic the shifting is even in the roller - 1d8+1+2 damage. as for two-fanged, yes it's not in the roller, as you can never know whether both hit or not - but i applied it - 7+7+3+3=20 (might want to check back 6 posts once the fight is done - there definitely would be better rolls available for romulus. d8: 12 rolls, 3.5 average |
| #34post_ironicMay 25, 2009 12:59:05 | whitebaron Thanks. I'm just hoping for every last point I can inflict in this fight. I need it. EDIT: Did you include quarry damage in round 2? It probably won't make much difference since Halo healed him, but it might have dropped him before Mephodyn went. I calculate 35 damage before quarry (14 from magic sword dmg on crit/charge and 21 from Jaws of the Wolf), which seems to be deleted from the roller. Thats a 50% chance of dropping him right there. Also, shouldn't my charge damage be maxed out since it crit? The 3 extra points from that plus a minimum 1 would finish all 39 of Brag's HP. |
| #35lonewolfMay 25, 2009 16:06:01 | |
| #36whitebaronMay 25, 2009 16:33:50 | @post_ironic: actually, i shortened brags health by 2 when i did round 2. jaws of the wolf misses completely due to halos mark, so it was: "25+7+6 damage to Brag, he is at 1 HP", which should be 23 (13 max damage from sword, 6 max from quarry, 4 additional) +7 (15/2)+6(13/2) from jaws. please stop searching for straws now - i would not change anything of 3 rounds back now. Brag hacks away at Romulus{Piercing Strike}, once again, dropping him. Halo takes second wind, shifts and tries to push Mephodyn into the hedge {Tide of Iron} but misses. Mephodyn is up post_ironic Romulus is at -6 and will fail his death saving throw. Mephodyn is marked. |
| #37post_ironicMay 25, 2009 17:56:26 | Sons In the roller, it only looks like one of the attacks from jaws of the wolf missed, but that is because the mark is missing, thereby confusing the result. I'm not grasping at straws, I was simply trying to review the fight. Since one hit point was at stake, and there isn't an explanation readily discernible in the roller, I just wanted clarification. Not much Mephodyn can do, so Righteous Brand on Halo until I eventually drop. |
| #38whitebaronMay 26, 2009 6:02:17 | Mephodyn desperately strikes at Halo, and bloodies him with his Righteous Brand. Halo retaliates with a Tide of Iron, missing. Brag takes the risk and moves into flanking position , and is hit on the way. He then unleashes another piercing strike on the cleric. Mephodyn again uses Righteous Brand, connecting solidly again. Halo feels it's about time to finish this one, and reaps Mephodyn of his final life force. --- sorry i had to finish this fight now, as i'm not sure how much of time i'll have tonight. i just assumed the most likely actions from the previous behaviour. rewards will be up in ~10 hours. |
| #39post_ironicMay 26, 2009 7:52:39 | @whitebaron: no problem on concluding the fight that way. I was pretty much out of options anyway. @lonewolf: awesome fight. |
| #40lonewolfMay 26, 2009 8:38:11 | @WB: Thanks for running. In round 7 Halo would get a free attack on Mephodyn if he takes that OA, but obviously there is no reason to change anything now. @post_ironic: Yes that was a very close one, and the dice didnt really help me either, although it did get slightly better towards the end... d20: 22 rolls, 8.2 average |
| #41whitebaronMay 26, 2009 14:42:52 | results are up in the battles thread. |
