... Not just one of those days, but one of ... "those" ... days. The crowd was starting to surround Max and Verren. It wasn't that there was a real danger, but more just a petty annoyance.

Many of the higher leagues were becoming boring to most of the crowds. It wasn't that there weren't interesting fights to watch ... they just didn't have ... the 'flare' of some of the other leagues. With the paired psions of Longshot and Lord Lorian fights had no flash. There would just be an invisible blow or two and the fight would be over. No pyrotechnics, no duels of sword and axe, nothing to see really. It was about this time that the Voidmind cult had formed and slowly gathered public support. Things had finally become violent.

Verren looked around and was a little irritated. With a wave of his hand he channeled some magic that would disperse the section of the crowd that it didn't kill. Fire flared to life and the crowd got the pyrotechnics they wanted, just not in the way they wanted. As the crowd scattered an astral monolith appeared and aided the flames. Max simply directed it to deal with anything that came close to Verren. Within moments the crowd was half dispersed and half dead. Well mostly ...

Two knights stood off in the distance standing on the ground. Swords strapped to their backs light armor allowing them to move just a little freer. The symbol of the Voidmind on an emblem just above the shoulder. One didn't have to read minds to know what they were thinking. Verren didn't need an excuse to start shooting.

Tech
Round 1:
Verren -
VM1 - Draws sword and moves closer.
Max -
VM2 -

I'll probably be a bit rusty ... but I think I'll remember pretty quick.

Verren - 26/26hp
Max - 41/41hp
VM1 - xx/xx
VM2 - xx/xx

Watch out, they look like they can resist our psionics! - Use something that bypasses their resistance, like one of those summons of yours! - I'll try to buy you some time!

Verren will move to L15, draw his dorje of Vigor, and use it.

Hmmpf.
One cannot even walk the streets withoutbeeing attacked by this maniacs.

Max nods only to Verren, steps back and starts reaching out into the Aether to draw enough ectoplsm, forming a large construct in front of Verren.

5ft step to L18, start manifesting a 6+3pp Astral Construct with Muscle & Extra Attack.

Verren steps out with no fear of the attackers and with a quick wave a djore draws the attention. One of the attackers moves up quickly while drawing a greatsword. As Max steps back the other places an arrow in his direction but it bounces off his armor

Verren - Moves to L15 and uses Djore of Vigor

Well, well, it's still time for you to go home - on the other hand... go to hell...

Verren 5ft step into charging line(k16), shoots scorching ray from memory with added psionic shot, and refocusses (probably).

May 23, 2008 15:37:49
in case Max gets disrupted he will expend his psionic focus to take 15 on the concentration check

Verren steps into the rushing knight's line of attack, and fires off a ray that goes wide. Adjusting his footing the knight moves around Verren and swings but finds only Max's shield with his sword.

Another being astral form takes shape from the ground.

Updated above. Max and his construct, well except for the map

"You wanna play? Im not in the mood right now; Play with my friend here for now!"

While the large astral construct starts pounding on the infidel that dared to attack its master, Max tumbles away(O18) draws his dorje of Vigor and uses it.

Note that due to the astral constructs DR/magic its natural attacks count as magic weapons.

notes

-Even when missing, Verren still expends his focus and has to succeed on his concentration check to recover it.

May 23, 2008 16:55:18
The massive construct makes quick work of the voidmind leaving only one left who quickly fires off two bow shots that are well off their mark, but aimed at Verren.

Tech
Round 3:
Verren - refocus: fails, bow shot: 19 hits dmg 1
Max - hides
AC5 (EA+M) - charges (atk: 35 dmg:18)
VM2 - Draw sword, Attack: 19 miss)

Round 4:
AC5 - 3 hits and damage

yea ... I can't do jack w/ no rolls above a 5.

May 23, 2008 17:12:48
Max shakes his head, laughing.
"Oh this is nearly too easy."

He moves into full cover(S13) and takes a full defensive stance while his construct charges the remaining enemy.
#14

whitebaron

May 24, 2008 4:48:34
Oho, he's spoiling all the fun... Good dog, go fetch...

Verren takes out his bow, moves a little and shoots at the remaining knight (with psionic shot - if he did his concentration check before)
#15

Erithmu

May 24, 2008 9:38:11
Verren tries again to refocus his mind but fails to do so. Still firing off a bow shot the arrow hits for minor damage. The 'doggy' charges the knight and pounds into him with great force. As the knight tries to retaliate his blade only bounces off the protective shell. Doggy takes a moment to finish off the poor knight

ooc
combat over ... updated above. the Construct got all the good rolls ...

Actions?

That was the warm up ... the next stuff will be harder.

While ensuring they are 100% dead, Verren states: That was almost to easy. I wonder where they were coming from and what their intention was. Max, any ideas? Afterwards, he will look around whether the gladosian guard has noticed that encounter, what the crowd looks like, whether he is being observed and the like. (If he feels observed or somehow threatened, he'll use a scroll of mage armor immediately - oh, skip that, he feels observed, use it no matter what. )

notes
Verren has still some unprepared spells. in a minute when i have the time to do so, i'd like to prepare them, but it can be between f2 and f3 as well.
Magic Missiles +1x Grease for L1,
1 Scorching Ray for L2

lonewolf and myself are quite busy on different days of the week, so if one of us has no time to post, the other will maybe post instructions on what to do next...

Wildsurged Astral Constructs look even nastier now than they did when lonewolf told me about his initial build...
#17

Erithmu

May 24, 2008 14:28:56
Verren looks around but sees no one interested in a 'brave soul' with the defeat of the two knights the crowd scatters and even the Gladosian Guards are doing their best to get people away from the square. With some quick look over there appear to be a few leads that point towards the [post=7221227]Dunken Marina[/post] as a possible headquarters. It would take a few hours to get there, but it seems that there was time.

ooc
@WB: Spells memorized
We can speed this up if you guys want ... in fact i would appreciate it since the 3rd week is technically finals week for me.

May 24, 2008 15:14:56
Bolstered by their easy success, and infuriated by the preposterous attack on gladosian arena warriors, Verren and Max decide that they have to investigate that attack on their own.

After all, this was a direct attempt on their lives... Others would run to the guards, but well... No, that's not the way to do it.

notes
sure, speed it up - lw&me rp every week so it's not like we really need the rp part here - though a bit of rp description is nice. ;)

The irony of quest titles strikes again...

Verren and Max travel to the Dunken Marina and find the building that was mentioned within some of the paperwork. The warehouse is well sealed from the outside. Although Kiki is able to fly up to an upper window and see through the glass. Aside from some crates the place appears to be empty at first glance.
#20

lonewolf

May 28, 2008 18:05:16
How big is the warehouse? How many entrances are there? Is there any indication how those entrances might be locked?

Max readies a potion of invisibility just in case and listens at the door to the warehouse, trying to determine if there is anything moving in there.
#21

Erithmu

May 28, 2008 18:16:40
Warehouse is about 100ftx100ft

There is the main door which sits on the street, there is also a dock on the back side that can be walked around to that sits on the water.

There appear to be 3 doors. One in the front, one on the port side, and one in an alley way. They appear to be standard locks.
#22

lonewolf

May 28, 2008 19:33:23
The psionic duo circles around the warehouse to the backdoor in the alley. Max checks the doors for any noises and tries to open it gently if he doesnt hear anything. If the door is locked, Verren shoots a 3pp energy ray(sonic) with Psionic Shot at the lock to force it open.
#23

Erithmu

May 29, 2008 10:48:56
Listening at the door Max doesn't hear anything. Giving it a quick try he finds it unlocked. Either foolish or on purpose Max isn't quite sure. Stepping into the warehouse there are multiple large crates set for boat shipping. There doesn't appear to be anyone in the area. Quickly however there is the sound of something moving around the corners of one of the boxes, and then another. But he can't see anything. With a quick nudge to Verren the pair take actions.

Verren draws and uses a scroll while Max begins drawing raw Astral. Verren is suddenly alarmed by what he doesn't quite see. It appears two faint clouds rolling around most likely air elementals of some form. It is not long before Verren gets two blows of air coming his way.

Verren will continue to buff - vigor, inertial armor, force screen (hide displays, as always all spells/powers shared with familiar...)
he'll also tell the constructs/max where the opponent is, and then move a bit so that his speech does not give his location away.

Slight change of things ... forgot something

As the second construct appears Max takes a turn for the worse and looses all mental focus. If not for his invisibility he would be in bad shape. His constructs finally seem to make contact with something which falls to the ground, and then turning to the other target, as Verren directs.

Well, well, this looks like another well-laid trap. Seems we should get used to this - Got any idea how to continue? currently i'd love to set this entire structure to the torch... but well, as far as is remember the gladosian authorities did not really like those methods of mine...

Max holds Verren for just a moment and makes the slight recommendation of treasure, which allows just enough sense to creep in. Taking a few minutes to look around the building nothing of note is found, just normal trade goods. Verren is about to start a fire when he notices a large box in the corner that has the Voidmind seal that was on the paladins. Walking over he put his hand on the box and found it was rather insubstantial and saw through the illusion. Looking down stairs spiraled downwards and the sounds of trickling water came to his ears.

Calling Max over the two pondered what to do next.

A bump and just regrouping here. I will be out of town over the new years with unknown inet. But I'll be around all day getting ready for that, if I have time I'll write up the details of encounter 3 and get that started.

bah, there's nothing real out there and not in here... we should rather go and have a nice lunch before doing anything else....

can i finally set this building to fire once we are done with the cellars? i really could use something more substantial to satiate my bad temper these days...

By the way... i feel pretty hurt... I really need some healing before we do anything else...

ooc

it's the holidays anyway, and no need to hurry after a half-year, we're likely both gone as well for the next two days.

The pair of psion and half psion take the steps down to find a rather large room with various doors. Taking a few moments to get their barrings finds the two with the sound of a door opening to the south. Eyes lock for a moment as a rather pale man looks up to see the pair. Without a moment's hesitation the man springs into action before the psions can act. With rapid speed the man covers the room and lays a fist towards Verren.

Before the Cerebremancer can react he begins to see stars dropping what is in his hands and feeling the force of the blow behind it.

Tech
Round 1
27 - Monster - Charges Verren (Stunning fist: Atk: 22 vs FF hit Dmg: 15)
-- Verren Fort vs Stunning fist: 11 fail
08 - Verren - Stunned
07 - Max - ???

Monster (undead typed) ??/??
Verren 11/26hp
Max 41/41hp

foul!

since i have not really used any of my PP before we go below the surface, i want to go prepared - 3pp inertial armor for +5AC, and it's pretty likely i would have turned both of us invisible and used see invis as well ... but let's go with the AC ...

next time, please ask... two spellcasters going down to explore a dangerous area? i'm not sure, but almost anyone would do something before going down there...

With no way to save his partner, Max drinks a potion of invisibility and gets away from the attacker into safety.

Next round he starts creating Astral constructs to beat their enemy into pulp.

7+2pp, the first one with muscle & improved grab, all additional ones with muscle & extra Attack

foul comments:
I'll give you the IA, but normally quests are also affected by the time roll, so I'm not going to allow the invis.

As their enemy takes measures to be able to focus on Max, he just chuckles and ruins those attempts again. After a short concentration the see invisibility fails and is broken by psionic might.

Dispel psionics 5+2pp, Dispel check: +13 => autosuccess
target is the see invisibility spell. Since he targets neither an enemy nor includes an enemy in the area, Max stays invisible

tech
If Verrens stun is over, he'll be firing 4pp Crystal shards, powered by Psionic Shot (tm) (5ft step before that), until he goes down or is out of PP. use the move action to refocus, +5ft step away every turn.
note: i have powerpoints for a lot longer than i have hitpoints, but should i run out, switch to scorching ray first, then followup with blindness, followed by shocking grasp and scrolls of scorching ray.

Verren comes to his senses and taking a step back the man quickly and adeptly avoids the shard aimed at him, having no other target he steps forward and with a kick to the chest Verren crumples to the ground. Now the Cat and mouse game begins.

27 - Monster - Draw Scroll, Recite See Invisible (CL:3+?? passes)
08 - Verren - 4pp Crystal Shard (Atk:14 miss, Refocus: yes)

Round 3
27 - Monster - 5ft step + flurry Verren (16+?? dmg:14 pulls 2nd punch)
08 - Verren - Bleeding (Stable: no)
07 - Max - ???

Monster (undead typed) ??/??
Verren -4/26hp (bleeding)
Max 41/41hp

Just going to make a quick statement here, if Verren doesn't reach -10 he will complete the quest and get full rewards ... working on some school work at the moment, but I see you are online, I was basically just going to run out the fight but is there any point where you want to try to stabilize Verren?

I always assumed that even if Verren dies as long as we win the fight we complete the quest. If that is not true, create 3 constructs and then try stabilizing him with Heal checks.

Ya know ... it doesn't say one way or the other ... I guess my question would be. If someone died (-10) on week 1 or 2 of a quest, would they be allowed to continue on the quest if the other character defeated the encounter? My leaning would be No, but I'm open to comments

Two constructs appear and begin to work on the man, but blows do not seem to do as much as they should, and the creature seems to shrug off the grabs of one of the first construct. Finally the monstrosity grabs a hold of the man, but quickly finds himself holding gas as it waifs up and floats just out of reach of the constructs.

Updated Tech one post up.

Not planning to let this thing get away, Max shoots a large crystal shard into the cloud, hoping that it will be enough to bring that thing down.

7+3pp empowered crystal shard. Move close to the ACs afterwards.

You missed the +2 bonus to attack because of the invisibility and Darvin should attack flatfooted touch AC. This should be a hit.

Yes I missed the invisible and the flat footed, 45 damage.

The cloud of smoke seems to take the shard and make it's way towards one of the doors in an attempt to escape. Max sends the constructs after it and after one door they find a coffin that the mist has descended into and Max ends the unlife of the vampire. A little searching around reveals some healing potions for Verren so that Max doesn't have to carry him back to town. As well as some information about the psion hunters.
