| #1whitebaronJan 14, 2009 18:38:41 | i'll have to do Equipment which might take a while, and setup will follow tomorrow. A ghost dwells on the Ethereal Plane and, as an ethereal creature, it cannot affect or be affected by anything in the material world. When a ghost manifests, it partly enters the Material Plane and becomes visible but incorporeal on the Material Plane. A manifested ghost can be harmed only by other incorporeal creatures, magic weapons, or spells, with a 50% chance to ignore any damage from a corporeal source. A manifested ghost can pass through solid objects at will, and its own attacks pass through armor. A manifested ghost always moves silently. A manifested ghost can strike with its touch attack or with a ghost touch weapon (see Ghostly Equipment, below). A manifested ghost remains partially on the Ethereal Plane, where is it not incorporeal. A manifested ghost can be attacked by opponents on either the Material Plane or the Ethereal Plane. The ghost’s incorporeality helps protect it from foes on the Material Plane, but not from foes on the Ethereal Plane. When a spellcasting ghost is not manifested and is on the Ethereal Plane, its spells cannot affect targets on the Material Plane, but they work normally against ethereal targets. When a spellcasting ghost manifests, its spells continue to affect ethereal targets and can affect targets on the Material Plane normally unless the spells rely on touch. A manifested ghost’s touch spells don’t work on nonethereal targets. A ghost has two home planes, the Material Plane and the Ethereal Plane. It is not considered extraplanar when on either of these planes. |
| #2templer10Jan 15, 2009 1:11:36 | actually lorian has know (arcane) +12 - which isnt enough to identify a lot, but should give me color i think. And is it hands as in normal hands or as in claws (like a typical dragon). on other notes - Ouch. |
| #3whitebaronJan 15, 2009 3:30:11 | it's more like hands, but with clawish features. btw: they walk upright. and no, the color is not really part of the description neither is it part of their type... and about ouch: you could have gotten far worse opponents. still need to do equipment, though. Setup: you'll be starting in box 1, monsters out of sight. Ini: Lorian, Samuel, Dragon A, Dragon B |
| #4lonewolfJan 15, 2009 10:44:24 | Samuel starts out with a stone of Force Screen in hand. He manifests a fully augmented and wildsurged Vigor and stays put for now. @t10: what do you think about a concentrated Ego whip assault? With 7d4 Cha damage each round even with higher than average Cha they shouldnt survive that for long. After that Vigor, Samuel can do 3 of those 3d4 ones(barring psychic enervation) and after that also attack Cha with his draining strikes. Another option would be for Samuel to try to dominate one of them. Should be hard but not impossible. |
| #5templer10Jan 15, 2009 16:50:57 | Might be a good idia - cheesy, but will work |
| #6whitebaronJan 16, 2009 4:25:24 | t10, i still need your round #1 action, and i need placements for both, or i'll just put both in center. also, you might want to give round 2 as well, maybe even round 3 - so we can get things going... --- edit --- OUCH - Telin just pointed out a glaring mistake via PM... of course, its two of those dragons... gladly, not much has started yet in terms of combat. ![]() |
| #7lonewolfJan 16, 2009 5:01:22 | unless they are engaged earlier, Samuel will continue buffing with defensive precognition and Force Screen PLAs. |
| #8templer10Jan 16, 2009 5:09:37 | start with force screen dorje (ml2) & dorje of defensive precog in hands behind cover on the right side, on super wing. note that iam invisible due to ring.sOike under cloths. R1-3 - 14 pts vigor, gorce scren (dorje), defensive precog (share all). If i spot dragons, ill do something else. |

| #10lonewolfJan 16, 2009 17:16:06 | Samuel flies out towards the center looking for his enemies. He ends his turn underground. |
| #11templer10Jan 17, 2009 1:32:00 | activate energy adaptation (shared) and move (on super wing) south and clockwise, end turn where i can see where samuel will come out of (dont have time to post coordinates). |
| #12whitebaronJan 17, 2009 4:08:08 | @t10: posting coordinates really doesn't take that long... just click on the link behind the image... | #13templer10Jan 18, 2009 1:40:30 | Continue South close to the ground to 40,23 with lorian ready action to do full augmant ego whip + shout to sameul location (free action) on sight (250 range, 4d4 (or half) char dmg, Will DC 25) Using power penetration (+19 vs SR/pr if it's there). |
| #14whitebaronJan 18, 2009 5:16:49 | updated round 5 above. need actions for round 6. Sammy is underground again, Lorian can't see a thing. Round 6: Lorian (spot:failed) ??? Samuel ??? Dragon A ... Dragon B ... |
| #15lonewolfJan 18, 2009 5:24:01 | With their enemies obviously not visible, Samuel draws and uses a stone of touchsight. |
| #16templer10Jan 18, 2009 7:48:06 | lorian will also use touchsight (memory), and if still cant find them will get off wing (attempting a quick dismount) - and moving 30 feet east, super wing will start to yell loudly (well whatever pegasus's can do) being a Good bait... |
| #17whitebaronJan 18, 2009 8:39:18 | lorian will also use touchsight (memory), and if still cant find them will get off wing (attempting a quick dismount) - and moving 30 feet east, super wing will start to yell loudly (well whatever pegasus's can do) being a Good bait... both are within touchsight range... you did not specify what you wanted to do, then... still dismount? Round 6: Lorian (spot:failed) manifests touchsight and ???? Samuel manifests touchsight and stays put below ground. Dragon A ... Dragon B ... |
| #18templer10Jan 18, 2009 9:17:10 | no i still want to do something - just to be clear - are the dragons flying at 20 feet high? and if so - what space do they take up from 20 feet to what height (considering it's 50 max). |
| #19whitebaronJan 18, 2009 9:19:29 | no i still want to do something - just to be clear - are the dragons flying at 20 feet high? and if so - what space do they take up from 20 feet to what height (considering it's 50 max). they take up from 20-35ft - they are 20' above the grouznd... still need your action, though. you've got a move action left. |
| #20templer10Jan 18, 2009 9:40:42 | they take up from 20-35ft - they are 20' above the grouznd... still need your action, though. you've got a move action left. Question - can you do a temporal accelaration and use the standart action one get's in the extra round to ready an action that will happen after the temporal accelaration ends -for example ego whip on sight when any dragon moves closer to me? or ego whip on sight at end of acceleration (pretty sure yes on the first, not sure on the second). |
| #21whitebaronJan 18, 2009 9:48:44 | no. powers cast while under the influence of temporal acceleration, can't harm your opponents. it explicitly says so. also, since monsters act only after the power ends (and thus your readied action goes away), there is nothing to be gained from readying in that timeframe. When your temporal acceleration expires, you resume acting during your current turn in the standard time frame. resume acting!= readying --- it would be nice if we could get the actual combat/whipping going? your move action is still missing... |
| #22templer10Jan 18, 2009 10:08:59 | fine lol - anyway - move action (with super wing) 33,30. Swift action to manifest temporal acceleration. get max pps astral construct (8th level) online, blindesight C menue option. place it directly in front of me. have the Construct ready an action to attack dragon on sight - ill prefer to NOT get a full attack if i can help it TY very much. |
| #23whitebaronJan 18, 2009 10:45:21 | Round 6: Lorian (spot:failed) manifests touchsight, spots the dragons close, retreats to the middle, uses temporal acceleration and summons a 15pp astral construct(blindsight) to protect him. Samuel manifests touchsight from stone and stays put below ground. Dragon A moves somewhere out of sight... (rocks block touchsight) Dragon B charges Super-Wing, and kills it instantly with its greatsword (crit, dive, you get the picture) - Lorian auto succeeds in softening his fall. Dragon B is now visible, but it seems it has some kind of concealing effect on it. Construct, ignoring the concealing effect, attacks Dragon B, dealing a minor wound. (21) ------------------------------------------------------- Samuel 57/57 HP, AC 33+8, 28 PP --- +55 Vigor [long] --- Surging Euphoria [4] --- touchsight [56] --- +3 Defensive Precog [82] --- +5 Force Screen [83] Lorian 69/69 HP, AC 25+6, 95 PP --- +70 Vigor [long] --- +4 Force Screen [22] --- +2 Defensive Precog [43] --- touchsight [156] --- shaken [7] --- AC [21] --- energy adaptation [long] --- share pain --- mind blank --Spike 34/34 HP, AC 23+6 --- +70 Vigor [long] --- +4 Force Screen [22] --- +2 Defensive Precog [43] --- energy adaptation [long] --- share pain --- mind blank Dragon A -0 HP Dragon B -21 HP Round 7: Lorian ??? Samuel ??? Dragon A ??? Dragon B ??? Construct ??? |
| #24lonewolfJan 18, 2009 11:00:56 | With a loud noise coming from nearly directly above him, Samuel flies a bit back underground before emerging, and sends a mental assault on the visible dragon. Afterwards he takes cover within a column again. Flyby attack, 8+3pp Ego Whip, 3d4 Cha damage DC 29 half |
| #25templer10Jan 18, 2009 11:26:09 | WB - can the dragon dive if the construct is in the way? a Dive is a charge and if he's attacking from above he needs to end it sort of on top of the construct to do what you mentioned. If that's what you did, is it hovering? in any case - max pps ego whip on same dragon as samuel, manifet defensivly, automake it using power penetration. (4d4 char, dc 25). If the power is identifed to not work completly (using psicraft/spellcraft) ill want to do something else. if the dragon is sitll up after all of that, the construct will move 10 feet left (to provoke an aoa), then do a touch for grapple - longshot but might keep it still for a round or 2. |
| #26lonewolfJan 18, 2009 11:31:31 | The charge should be possible, but the dragon should provoke an AoO from the construct for it. |
| #27whitebaronJan 18, 2009 11:47:42 | yes, the dragon can dive. SW had cover from the AC, but it really did not matter with that result. (even mounted combat would not have been able to save SW) btw: i'll let the construct be a construct, as the half-dragons will die due to ego whips more likely than HP damage, and will ignore it anyway (they have more reach than it, thats why the charge worked. update follows soon... ok, updated: things i missed in previous post: because the dragon did dive, he should not be at 20' - this was a mistake in the map. if you don't lose altitude, you did not dive. both dragons are now at ground level after their dives. Round 7: Lorian manifests Ego Whip, defensively, which hits the Dragon without trouble due to touchsight but bevertheless the dragon saves (8/2=4), and Longshot renders himself visible again. Samuel moves some and manifests another Ego Whip before he goes back underground. (11/2 = 5). The Strain of his Surge however, drains some of the energy from him (-8pp) Dragon A charges Lorian. (87) Dragon B, having nothing better to do, full-attacks the Construct and kills it(42+10,36+10,46+10) . he then 5' steps closer to Lorian (reaching the ground again) and takes a bite from him (28+5PA) ------------------------------------------------------- Samuel 57/57 HP, AC 33+8, 12 PP --- +55 Vigor [long] --- touchsight [56] --- +3 Defensive Precog [82] --- +5 Force Screen [83] Lorian 69/69 HP, AC 25+6, 80 PP --- +10 Vigor [long] --- +4 Force Screen [22] --- +2 Defensive Precog [43] --- touchsight [156] --- shaken [7] --- AC [21] --- energy adaptation [long] --- share pain --- mind blank --Spike 34/34 HP, AC 23+6 --- +10 Vigor [long] --- +4 Force Screen [22] --- +2 Defensive Precog [43] --- energy adaptation [long] --- share pain --- mind blank Dragon A -0 HP Dragon B -21 HP -9 CHA Round 8: Lorian ??? Samuel is dazed and cannot act. Dragon A ... Dragon B ... --- notes: Samuel is above ground, as Enervation works immediately. |
| #28whitebaronJan 18, 2009 12:19:31 | edit: missed double damage on dive. Lorian has 41 HP less. |
| #29whitebaronJan 19, 2009 12:13:03 | t10, if you don't want to post tactics soon, i'll have you ego whip and just stand there. you had plenty of time to read the FOTW, post there multiple times, time to analyse your fight vs. varjo/kraegin - it's not much to ask for one action, is it? |
| #30templer10Jan 19, 2009 16:02:54 | manifest defensivly as same dragon max pps ego whip, and if he does down/dazed Go to 29,31, if he doesnt - well, we are pretty dead - so pray i somehow survive to the next round. |
| #31lonewolfJan 19, 2009 16:08:13 | I suggest you move in any case and take those AoO. Its much better than sucking up a full attack. another option would be to move action DD out of there. They´ll kill you with a full attack. |
| #32templer10Jan 19, 2009 16:52:48 | I suggest you move in any case and take those AoO. Its much better than sucking up a full attack. yea okay - move anyway to same coordinates if they mean avoiding a full attack, move west if they dont. |
| #33whitebaronJan 19, 2009 17:53:45 | Round 8: Lorian manifests another Ego-Whip(8) and barely manages to bring the Dragon down to a comatose state. He then moves away. (AoO: 37 damage) Samuel is dazed and cannot act. Dragon A squeezes past the pillars* and attacks Lorian for 51. *i made a pitlord call here - since the dragon can legally stand in all spaces, i decided he logically could move there. ------------------------------------------------------- Samuel 57/57 HP, AC 33+8, 12 PP --- +55 Vigor [long] --- touchsight [56] --- +3 Defensive Precog [82] --- +5 Force Screen [83] Lorian 34/69 HP, AC 25+6, 65 PP --- +4 Force Screen [22] --- +2 Defensive Precog [43] --- touchsight [156] --- shaken [7] --- AC [21] --- energy adaptation [long] --- share pain --- mind blank --Spike 1/34 HP, AC 23+6 --- +4 Force Screen [22] --- +2 Defensive Precog [43] --- energy adaptation [long] --- share pain --- mind blank Dragon A -0 HP Dragon B comatose/dead Round 9: Lorian??? Samuel??? Dragon A... --- got lucky on that ego whip... notes: you can not 5ft step out of reach... |
| #34lonewolfJan 19, 2009 18:10:31 | If the Dragon is dazed after Lorians action, Samuel will use a round of his boots of haste and make a flyby attack with draining touch on Cha. like that: otherwise he will do another 8+3pp Ego Whip and also retreat into that column. |
| #35templer10Jan 20, 2009 1:00:56 | max pps ego whip on dragon defensivly, if he's not dazed do temporal acceleration (defensivly), use that round to do 10 pps vigor (shared), and move away from dragon out of full attack range - dont care where - should leave me with 30 pps - enough for 2 full ego whips. if he is dazed, move away and do as above next round, including the TA + vigor if he's not comatose/dazed next round. oh - and forgot to mention, and dont know if it matters - lorian cant be shaken - he has mind blank on. |
| #36whitebaronJan 20, 2009 10:30:07 | I'll make a full update and post in the fights thread once i get home tonight - making a quick round 9+10 however (dragon can only hit once, and was assuming Lorian keeps whipping), the Dragon takes 10 Cha damage in round 9 and 10 in round 10, which renders it comatose as well... Well t10, please either commit to a thread fight, or don't play in one. it was really annoying to see you post in the fotw 3 times over the span of a whole day, and not at all posting in this fight. like that, a seperate thread fight takes the pitlord a whole lot more time than a normal one. |

Samuel manifests touchsight from stone and stays put below ground. Dragon A moves somewhere out of sight... (rocks block touchsight) Dragon B charges Super-Wing, and kills it instantly (crit, dive, you get the picture) - Lorian auto succeeds in softening his fall. Dragon B is now visible. Samuel moves some and manifests another Ego Whip before he goes back underground. (11/2 = 5). The Strain of his Surge however, drains some of the energy from him (-8pp) Dragon A charges Lorian. (87) Dragon B, having nothing better to do, full-attacks the Construct and kills it(42+10,36+10,46+10) . he then 5' steps closer to Lorian (reaching the ground again) and takes a bite from him (28+5PA) ------------------------------------------------------- Samuel 57/57 HP, AC 33+8, 12 PP --- +55 Vigor [long] --- touchsight [56] --- +3 Defensive Precog [82] --- +5 Force Screen [83] Lorian 69/69 HP, AC 25+6, 80 PP --- +10 Vigor [long] --- +4 Force Screen [22] --- +2 Defensive Precog [43] --- touchsight [156] --- shaken [7] --- AC [21] --- energy adaptation [long] --- share pain --- mind blank --Spike 34/34 HP, AC 23+6 --- +10 Vigor [long] --- +4 Force Screen [22] --- +2 Defensive Precog [43] --- energy adaptation [long] --- share pain --- mind blank Dragon A -0 HP --- resist energy (sonic) [long] --- resist energy (acid) [long] --- heroism [long] --- blur [55] Dragon B -21 HP -9 CHA --- resist energy (sonic) [long] --- resist energy (acid) [long] --- heroism [long] --- blur [55] Round 8: Lorian manifests another Ego-Whip(8) and barely manages to bring the Dragon down to a comatose state. He then moves away. (AoO: 37 damage) Samuel is dazed and cannot act. Dragon A squeezes past the pillars* and attacks Lorian for 51. *i made a pitlord call here - since the dragon can legally stand in all spaces, i decided he logically could move there. ------------------------------------------------------- Samuel 57/57 HP, AC 33+8, 12 PP --- +55 Vigor [long] --- touchsight [56] --- +3 Defensive Precog [82] --- +5 Force Screen [83] Lorian 34/69 HP, AC 25+6, 65 PP --- +4 Force Screen [22] --- +2 Defensive Precog [43] --- touchsight [156] --- shaken [7] --- AC [21] --- energy adaptation [long] --- share pain --- mind blank --Spike 1/34 HP, AC 23+6 --- +4 Force Screen [22] --- +2 Defensive Precog [43] --- energy adaptation [long] --- share pain --- mind blank Dragon A -0 HP --- resist energy (sonic) [long] --- resist energy (acid) [long] --- heroism [long] --- blur [55] Dragon B comatose/dead Round 9+10: Lorian and Samuel succeed in ego-whipping the dragon into oblivion.
