UNCON 2009 - Grand Melee Discussion Thread

In this thread I hope to outline all of the rules, guidelines and specifics we'll need to incorporate the Grand Melee when UnCon rears its ugly head.

1. Submissions:

Each player may submit 1 character built of 7th level. He may use any material currently allowed for the CoCo (even with credits) for 4e. This includes all races and classes from the PHB, MM, and PHB2. As an extention of this - anything banned in the CoCo is similarly banned in this event.

Included on the character sheet must be tactics of no more than 1000 characters detailing use and priority of abilities and contingencies.

All character sheets need to be completed by GMT. At that time, if tactics are too lengthy, they will be truncated to fit the requirement. Anything beyond the 1000 characters will be ignored.

2. The Fight:

The Grand Melee will take place on the Small Arena map with entirely random locations (no one will start inside a wall however). All characters are working for their own needs and are seeking to accumulate as many points as possible.

Points are gained as follows:
 • Character Kill = 2 points (a kill is defined as a character who is rendered to negative HP equal to or in excess of the character's bloodied amount.
 • Character KO = 1 point (a KO is defined as a character who has been rendered unconscious by HP equal to 0 or less. If the player subsequently revives due to a successful death save or by an opposing character healing the individual, the point is removed. If the character is not revived and subsequently dies (via CDG or failed death saves or another method), the point is made permanent.
 • Character Kill = 1 point (a kill is defined as a character rendered unconscious or dead. If the character is subsequently revived, the point is not lost, and the character can give another point if he is taken down again.
 • Last Man Standing = 2 points (if the last persons are taken out at the exact same moment - no one receives these points)

In addition, there are certain bonus points that can be gained during the fight:
 • Never receiving HP damage = 5 points
 • Never being bloodied = 2 points (if the person is reduced from unbloodied to dying - this applies, unless the character is subsequently revived)
 • Not using any dailies = 1 points (if the person dies early on without using a daily - this would count; For the purposes of this - Item daily powers also count)
 • Not using any dailies or encounter powers = 2 points (does not stack with the above bonus) (if the person dies early on without using a daily - this would count; For the purposes of this - Item daily powers also count)
 • Not using an action point = 1 point
 • Dealing at least one HP damage to the most number of opponents = 1 point (if there is a tie for the number of opponents injured, then no bonus is given)

The fight will be coordinated by GM TelinArtho in a timely fashion. After the fight is complete, there will be a period for discussion in case of conflict with one or more individuals' tactics lasting days. After that period, GM TelinArtho will alter the fight according to a set number of changes established during the discussion period. After this edit is complete, no further complaints will be edited into the fight.

After the edit has taken place, the results of the match will be counted and the winner determined.

3. Prizes:

The Winner of the Core Coliseum Grand Melee will earn at least three things:
 • A custom tag (UnCon Winner)
 • The option to upload a Custom Avatar
 • The ability to add the character used in the Grand Melee as a character in a team without the use of credits (up to 20 credits). Alternatively, the player may start a level 7 or lower team for no credit cost.

2nd place of the Grand Melee will earn the ability to add a level 5 team for no credit cost (up to 10 credits)
3rd place of the Grand Melee will earn the ability to add a level 3 team for no credit cost (up to 10 credits)
