2 Very Quick Dark Sun Questions

I admit I'm not the best at reading the map included with the DSCS, so I'm sure somebody can help me. Is Tyr the closest "big city" to The Endless Sand Dunes? Or is another one closer? If so, which?

Does the Veiled Alliance seek out new members? Or do new members have to find them first? If the former, how do they do so? If the later, how are they sought out?

May 29, 2011 5:18:30 Yes, the one nestled in the Ringing Mountains. There are a ton of maps available online that are much more legible than the 4E map and the maps from older editions really only vary in scale (they increased the general scale on the maps considerably from 2E to 4E).

The Veiled Alliance is not a unified group across the Tablelands. Each city has a Veiled Alliance group, but each of those groups works very differently. Some are very good at staying unnoticed by the city's SK and templars enabling them to be a bit more active with seeking out or finding new members. Other chapters may be days away from being utterly wiped either by the canny investigations of the city rulers or from their own negligence or incompetence that recruiting new members is the last thing on their minds. For example the Veiled Alliance in Raam have agents and spies hidden within the mansabar guards and police who will actually smuggle those arrested for being mages right into the hands of the local Alliance chapter. In Balic, the Alliance elects its members and currently follow a rogue poet as they try to bring more of the nobles over to their side to oppose Andropoinis. Generally each city's Alliance will receive another city's members well, but they do not maintain close enough contact in any way that would enable things to be easy on the players. The players would have to track down the local Veiled Alliance that does not know them and pass any initiation rites and interrogations in order to prove that they are not working with the templars somehow. Try and nab up the old 2E book Veiled Alliance from whatever source you get older books from. While the mechanics have changed, the book is largely fluff that describes how each chapter operates in a given city, it's leaders, etc. Altaruk and Salt View are villages described as being large enough to have a regular Alliance group as well.

I guess the group is off to Raam instead of Tyr, for the timebeing at least.

Any chance you can link or send me to some of those good maps? GoogleImages isn't helping me very much!

May 29, 2011 5:46:24 Umm . . . search for Athas or Dark Sun maps, set the seach to large files? Profit? 3000 x 2000 file sized maps, several of just the Tablelands, several others of the expanded Tablelands and Jagged Cliffs regions. I'm sure you can find one that suits your purposes.
