Aug 22, 2010 14:53:55 I love the Dark Sun setting. I'm planning on picking up at least the CG later today. From what I've been hearing on the forums though, a lot of the lore and some other fluff has been left ambiguos. So I might look into getting the 2e books for more fluff.

What I'm wondering is how much of the 2e books are crunch and how much are fluff, cause if a book is mainly rules, thats not much use to me.

Also do you think it would be worth it to get the Campaign Setting Box set, The Revised Campgaign Setting Box set, both, or neither?

Aug 22, 2010 15:41:25 Most are fluff, but steer clear of Will and the Way as that is mainly a list of powers and old mechanics. My favourites are Elves of Athas, Dune Trader, Valley of Dust and Fire (but the Ur Draxans are not undead).

Slave tribes is ok and so is Air, Earth, Fire and Water (but has less relevance now).

Dragon Kings is not much use now, either.

Depending on how much you like the halflings you could get Windriders of the Jagged Cliffs. Mind Lords is ok but surf boarding druids is a bit much.

Check out www.athas.org for extended official 3.5 lore.

Aug 22, 2010 16:33:41 The top relevance with the new lore is the three books with 99% fluff: Dune traders (the Merchant Houses), Slave Tribes (the Black Sands Raiders, from that book, have survived the conversion to 4e and are found in the DSCG), and Veiled Alliance (4e's coverage of the various Alliance chapters, and the goals and methods of the organization itself, is comparatively poor).

The fluff on the elves has somewhat changed, or one could say has been left nebulous...but if you want your elves to be closer to 2e in fluff, then Elves of Athas is full of fluff on half a dozen important elven tribes, with language, myths, culture, and terrific images by Diterlizi.

Aug 22, 2010 18:40:07 If nothing else, get the Wanderer's Journal form the original boxed set. That's a great resource, and almost entirely fluff.

Aug 23, 2010 7:42:11 City by the Silt Sea details Dregoth and his plans and comes with an adventure. Valley of Dust and Fire contains all the info about the Dragon and his city state of Ur-Draxa.

I'd also recommend some of the adventures. I just picked up Dragon's Crown on ebay and plan on using that for paragon level. I also have Forest Maker which pits the heroes against Abalach Re.

Slave Tribes, Dune Trader Elves of Athas and the Veiled Alliance help fill out some aspects of Athasian life.

Personally I'd avoid any revised setting products. Just personal preference but I liked the pre revised stuff better.

I like Elves of Athas very much. Ivory Triangle is nice if you are considering Gulg and Nibenay as sites for you campaign to go. City State of Tyr is nice for some good city fluff to combine with the entry for Tyr in DSCS 4E. Dune Traders has good info on Merchant Houses.
