A Denizen of the wasteland salutes: in triumph, to warn his raiding band...or what?

Not bad. You are starting to get the right idea about the olive-colored sky, too. It's making it look much more Athasian to me. Make it slightly more tan/yellow-ish, and make it a pale version of that olive color (think how pale a shade of blue our sky is), and I think you will have nailed it dead to rights. ;) Here is a good swatch of olive as far as what I visualize, in the box on the upper right.

Oh, and the sunset version looks awesome. One minor detail, and it'll be absolutely perfect: The lizardfolk/critter/beastie/raider should have some source lighting reflecting off of the portions of his weapon, body, raised muscles, etc, that are facing the sun, as should the plateaus in front of him. Not too much, it should be subtle, and it'll really make the image pop.

All my opinion, of course! :D Your stuff is definitely improving in terms of raw visual appeal, and also in terms of layout of the images.

Tectuktitlay,
ta mate!
oh that app has limitations to it, and I'm not too used ot it.

I do most of my work in "Vue7 infinite", but quite a bit of my Dark SUn art has been with "Mojoworld3 Pro" (and like I I've said, my apps are legit, art and D&D is about all I can do nowadays, expensive, but worth it. Mojo's older and hans't had a new release for years, alas).

Now, I'm not very familiar with Mojoworld by comparison to Vue, also, while it's great at making entire worlds, it lacks a lot of the more professional abilities of Vue.

Mojo's interface, for terrians andmateirals *sucks* horribly, lol, so I can't use the more complex, realistic materials that I'd like to for the landscape

also, yeah I know about the highlight propblem, but I can't do much about it as I don't know why the Sun object's light isn't throwing more highlights out even at that low level, sigh.
With Vue I'd throw in an extra "fill light" but with Mojo...eh, not so good with it, lol

then I do a lot of post work in Photoshop to enhance the looks. It' smuch more boring to begin with.

Cool, I haven't used those. I usually do it the old-fashioned-way. By hand. On paper or canvas. With paint, or pencils, or colored pencils. Got a really nice set of the latter. Heh.

That is, until I can afford a bleedin' Wacom, and legit programs myself. Then I would like to go all-out, and start pumping out artwork at a MUCH quicker pace than I am able to now.

Yeah, it's weird how there is object source lighting for the canyons waaaaay in the background, but not the foreground. Could it be that the diameter of the "aura" of the lightsource is too small? Can that be expanded? I've had to do that in the Neverwinter Nights 2 editor before to get an effect for a zone I like.

I think I mentioned it before, but putting clouds up, with an olive sky, and a reddish light-source looks AWESOME, at least in the NWN2 editor. You've got these white clouds floating in an olive sky, with reddish linings instead of silver linings, and at the right angle of the sun lightsource, the red reflects off the bottom of the clouds, giving it a very alien yet beautiful look.

Wacoms are really nice, I have had 2 Graphires over the years and they are sweet

Painter 11 is out now so you may get speical offers for it? awesome app for painterly work

I used to hate photoshop as it's interface jsut sucked nuts, and stuck topaint shop pro (which is also a damn sight cheaper) but Photoshop's a lot better now.

normally I can edit light etc much better but as said, that's not my app of choice so it's largely trial and error.

Hi Steven,

I'm no longer an athas.org member, so I can only hope that Jon/flip will add them...
