#1 demonwastesmarauder Aug 28, 2010 14:14:49	When I was younger, I greatly enjoyed the Tribe of One books by Simon Hawke with the half elf- half halfling outcast Sorak. As rare as they would have to be, I've been wondering what stats to use for a possible 4E Elfling. I've been thinking half-elves, since according to their entry; a half-elf isn't a complete hybrid of human and elf, but rather the mingling creates something new. But another option is to just reskin the player's handbook 2 half-orcs as elf-halflings. (Yes, I know orcs on Athas are extinct - but a half-orc would fit in on Athas nicely, without treading on the territory of Muls or Half-Giants.)
#2 rollawaythestone Aug 28, 2010 14:26:31	Take the Half-Elf and change Dual Heritage to whichever two races you want them to qualify for when taking racial feats. Instead of Human/Elf, it could be Elf/Halfling

Just because some book says hes incredibly tough or wise doesn't mean it was racially derived toughness. He was a Druid, but that doesnt mean his race was optimized for his class, ie, don't decide to go with +2 Wis just because your one example of a Elfling was a druid with a primary stat of wisdom.
#4 rollawaythestone Aug 28, 2010 15:15:08	If you are dead set on making a new race, I would use +2 Dex and +2 Wis / Cha, as a blend of Halfling and Elf. Then just use the Half-Elf racial abilities with the slight change to Dual Heritage.

#6 demonwastesmarauder Aug 28, 2010 17:24:41	Hmmm... I'm not sure the monastic bent of Githzerai would be appropriate. Halfelf makes sense, It'd be easier if the character builder allowed feats from halflings and elves. Have to do it on paper, I guess. But on the other hand, the savagery of the half-orc (especially the paragon paths) really fits in well on Athas, and the plus to dexterity is very believable coming from a long-legged, Athasian elf parent.

Errr, Sorak wasn't a druid. If anything, he was a purely martial class. I'd normally say ranger, but he had a preference for a single heavy blade fighting style. Also, there are several novel references to the fact that Sorak himself wasn't particularly observant either, but the Watcher would consistently direct his attention (so she had the High wis). Also, his split personalities had all the supernatural powers: - The Watcher had the psionics, - he also had a ranger or druid buried in there somewhere, - and Kether had ye olde Preserver power (but was more of a possession, than a split personality) - I think he had a halfling rogue in there somewhere as well, but she was a bit nuts. So yes, I concur with basing the stats on him being agile (+2 Dex) and Charismatic (+2 Cha) because according to the novels, all the ladies wanted him His race was only special because of the impossibility of elves and halflings liking each other enough to do so. He wasn';t some elite super-race (you know, like Mul's :P )
#8 charybdis Aug 29, 2010 23:28:30	hmmm, I'll have to go and dust off my Broken Blade novel I have no isue with a heavy blade wielded by a druid. All cool there. It's just I don't remember Sorak casting any spells or utilising any Psionic abilities whatsoever. I always remember him being a purely martial character, with all the supernatural opwers (and even the animal companionship communes) being manifested only by the split personalities

#10 charybdis Aug 30, 2010 0:41:43	I'm guessing that having multiple personnalities is like uber-multiclassing. So all of the XP must have been split between his different personnaes. He must have been a low level druid. Nah, he was a cheesy multi-dual-classing-NPC. Don't forget, even though younger than many of the sisters, he was a better swordsman than them (and at least equal to his older teacher). That would imply a standard XP-rate :P
