#1 GMforPowergamers Jan 08, 2009 23:47:47	Ok, just for ha has...lets assume that DS is dead, and never comeing back...(I belive it will be the setting for 2010...or 11 personaly) If someone wanted to sit down and do a homebrew restart...what would it look like INSPERATION: Marvil Comics Ultimate Line....they took the best stories, and put them togather createing a new but simalar world...a fresh start with out the baggage... If each of you had to create DS from the ground up like a new box set (Much cooler then 3 books) getting complete creative freedom to edit the world, having the 4e mechanics to drawfrom, but the fluff how ever you want...could you guys recreate Dark SUn? Do you focus on Tyr... Do you start where the PP novels started...or where they ended...or do you throw them out except for some cool bits.. Do you assume we want all the 2e stuff the same, or do you start with the 4e PHB? Do you need Rajaat? Do you have the clensing war? Do you have the prestin tower as a focus? What do you do about the Dark Lens? How much absalutly must be the same for it to be darksun? How much is mutable to you? I expect the ressults to vary...
#2 phaaf_glien Jan 09, 2009 2:15:44	Personally, I would take the setting back to the way it was first presented in the first boxed set. I may even put it some years earlier, before the events of Kalak's assassination. I would not disclose any of the secrets of Dark Sun in the new material. I would be certain that everything has logical consistency however. Some work as to the physical dimensions of the Tablelands, the populations of the city-states, and other such things, would have to be taken into account. In other words, I would want everything to be able to "work" for the reborn setting. Even 1st box had errors and some less well thought out sections. This would not to be corrected. Since those first days of Dark Sun, the fan community has come up with some excellent fill-in-the-blanks for the Tablelands. Someone did some excellent work on the exact nature, and even did pictures of, Athasian coinage. Let's include some of that stuff. Information should be provided for how the city-states are administered, with more stats on important NPCs. How do taxes work? How much do slaves cost? How are the various armies organized, trained and conscripted? What are the ranks and titles of the various templars of the various states? Do templars serve in the army? Does the size of the Tablelands need to be increased, in mileage? Should it be twice as large, or three times as large? Before the rebirth of the campaign, everything needs to be thought out beforehand. No retconning in future publications. Players hate that, and it risks confusing and demoralizing fans. A new rebirth of DS should not include the areas beyond the Tyr Region. The Tablelands is big enough, and the rest can be saved for further supplements. The campaign should be stark and brutal, and not made politically correct and all warm and fuzzy. Let us embrace the campaign for what it was meant to be. I'd probably recommission Brom and Baxa for a new wave of iconic artwork, as so much of everything else was too cartoony. A new product could be published for every city-state. etc. No mentioning of advanced being, avangions and all that other junk in the first stuff. Let there be a mystery for a long time. For several years. Develop the Tablelands until the DS community is rebuilt after several years time, and then consider getting to the assassination of King Kalak.
