| #1RoboTonySep 12, 2013 14:09:15 | I have been running a Dark Sun campaign for some time that is now up to level 7, and I thought I'd share how I've adapted the Madness at Gardmore Abbey module to the Dark Sun setting: -The Abbey (I refer to it as a monastery) is in the Blackspire mountains east of Nibennay, many days travel from any other settlements. -The Deck of Many Things (a core part of the adventure) is still present but represented by ivory tablets. The hook in our campaign is that the adventures were given one tablet several levels ago (by the SK of Gulg!) with the idea that assembling a set of tablets could create a magical artifact powerful enough to help a player that is intermittently possessed by the crown of dust. -I have depicted the Abbey as being beyond ancient, they recently found items/references to Bahamut and Paladin which of course doesn't exist in the Dark Sun setting, but establish the idea of the abbey as the oldest place they've ever been with some weird "stuck in time" components. -The forested area of the abbey is just barren scrub land, though these is a much smaller supernatural grove the eladrin camp in, the players were instructed to make contact with the leader of the Eladrin who is a Veiled Alliance contact. -I swapped the village of Orcs for Tareks. Originally I was going to use Thrikreen, but Tareks seemed convenient for the mechanics of only needing to slightly adjust orc based encounters. -they aren't there yet but I'm considering swapping the Beholder in the tower for a Gaj -I'm going to make other changes before I'm done, most notably I will probably scale back the complexity of the dungeons at the top of the monastery, meaning some bosses with have more cards than as written. Sop far they've been exploring the Tarek village and a wizard (made into a defiler) tower, I anticipate swapping out many of the creatures in the upper dungeons, perhaps throwing in some belgoi and/or thri-kreen. |

For the forested area, have you considered turning it into an area of badland canyons that border the hill the abbey is on? For the monsters are you re-skinning them (using the orc stats from the adventure but just calling them tareks) or replacing them (using the tarek stats from the DSCC)?
