Hey guys,

I am lookin for some help on running an adventure on the Temple of the Eye (page 161 DSCG), who is said to be a place of great interest to the templars of Nibenay.

Any ideas or suggestions are more than welcome.

Thx

2. The Clearing War--Year of Dragon's Slumber, 184th King.s Age

Historically, the armies of the oba fought at tremendous advantage in the Crescent Forest while the Shadow King.s army have demonstrated a mastery of combat in the open fields of the Verdant Belt. One battle did, however, result in a devastating victory for Nibenay deep within the Crescent Forest.

A forester from Nibenay had uncovered a buried ruin forest and led the Shadow King.s templars to the site. The templars began an excavation of the site, but began to suffer from intermittent attacks by Gulg.s hunters. The king sent a force of 1,500 soldiers to secure the site and protect his servants from further attack. The huge force which the king had sent raised the oba.s curiosity about their activity in the forest. The soldiers of Nibenay woke one morning to find themselves surrounded by 5,000 warriors from Gulg.  The commander of the Oba’s army announced that she would extend safe passage to Nibenay.s citizens if they left the site immediately. After several hours a reply of acceptance came and the forces of Nibenay prepared to return to their city. The line of soldiers left the protection of the encampment and were still passing through the enemy line when the Gulg warriors let loose their spears. Only 150 footmen returned to Nibenay to report the slaughter.

The Shadow King himself emerged from his palace to lead an army of 2,000 soldiers and templars into the woods. By the break of dawn 3,000 of Gulgs hunters lay dead in the ruins. Nibenay then raised the dead warriors of Gulg and led the undead force against the survivors of the oba.s army. The hunters fled back to Gulg. The devastation wrought by the defiling magic of the Shadow King destroyed a swath of forest more than a mile across. This clearing remained ashen for centuries and has only in the past few decades begun to take seed. It is not known if anything of value was excavated from the ruin, but the site was abandoned byNibenay.s templars several months after the battle."

Doesn't add to what it could be...but it could be some history.  Perhaps the Templars have recently returned for some reason....

Perfect! I was just sending my players into the Crescent Forest for the sole reason that I wanted to use plant miniatures and feral haflings... Now I can include undead, a ruin and have something to hang an actual plot on.

You have my thanks too Raddu76!

You're both welcome, IMO, The Ivory Triangle boxed set is one of the best DS supplements out there.  I'm using a ton of info from it in my home game as well.   If you can find it online, I'd pick it up!

Good gaming!

I am planning on using the temple in my home campaign, but getting there has been derailed by my Ashes of Athas work...

I like the idea of this being something ancient that is of great value to either sorcerer-king, and they have basically come to see that to make a move on it is to suffer the wrath of the other. Thus, they both watch.

I am also thinking it makes a good spot for the halflings to have migrated in the Crescent Forest (see the Ivory Triangle info). They start in the described camp, but recently move closer to the temple and begin to interact with it. Dangerous halflings, crazy traps, strange elemental/ancient secrets... good times!

I was thinking about adapting the structure of the Temple based on instances and dungeons of WoW like the Sunken Temple or Gundrak.

What if the Temple was home of a cult of Yuan-Ti followers of the Primordial Ul-Athra?

Does it make sense?

That works...especially if the Templars are "guarding" it.  The Eye could be reference to when the moons come into alignment and make an "eye" in the sky.  At that time a portal could open if the right ritual is cast.  So the templars are secretly watching the temple to see who comes can goes.....

This of course mostly being in reference to some discussion on the boards about Ul-Athra getting banished to on of the moons. (Guthay?)

Yeah I had been thinking along those lines. I was going to have Ul-Althra banished to a moon in the mauraders adventure. However in the campaign book it states that Ul-Athra resides in the sea of silt. But that means the primordial is close to the home of the dragon. Not knowing what to do there. But definatly Yun-Ti cult on the moon in Worship of Ul-Althra with a gateway in the temple. but what sort of gaurdians are there and what did Nibinay find there?

Awsome idea, definetly going to use it!

Any suggestions on dungeons I could use?

Maybe the gate to the moons is actually a trigger for bringing Ul-Athra back to the Sea of Silt and could also be a portal to it.

I thought it was a reference to Tharzidune personally. So it would be the temple of elemental evil.

That story sounds fishy.

There were 1,500 of them; only 150 survived; 10%.  Then, they killed 3,000 of them (X2) the first force. The math is weird.

There's something else going on here.

Say, perhaps it wasn't the Hunters that killed the Nibs but a Spirit of the Land provoking the Nibs to kill Guls.

Perhaps the Oba and Nibenay both know of the SotL, but, they are either not strong enough to defeat it or they need it to maintain the Cresent Forest.
