Back story:
I am running a heavily modified version of Revenge of the Marauders.  The group has not run Marauders of the Dune Sea, but they do know that Yarnath has the blood jewel.  ...and they have an idea that the blood jewel is related to the Dust Kraken.

Two of Yarnath's minions Verassi of Minthur (a tradeing house guild leader who isn't who he appears to be and is some how tied to House Tsalaxa) and Lord Vonn (a now dead dwarf) has been causing nothing but trouble for the players at every turn.  Now that they know Yarnath is behind all their torment they want to turn around and disrupt his plans.

Next session:
I plan on having the characters go into slither and follow the adventure closely.  Grab the blood jewel and then leave.

Future plans:
What do I do after they escape with the blood jewel?  I figure WOTC will be putting out another adventure describing that but I was thinking of doing a dark sun version of the rod of 7 parts.  The Crown of Dust which they know is an artifact but don't know its location (nor has it been found yet since we haven't ran Marauders of the Dune Sea) was I thought the perfect item to break up into multiple pieces and have the players run all over Athas (and thus constantly getting into new adventure).

The players are now level 7 and I would like this story arc to take them to upper paragon.  At which point I'll be letting it slip that Yarnath has been working for Dregoth this entire time.  Which gets me to my end game story.

The question:
Getting past that breaking up a piece and spreading it across the world is the ultimate cliche in all of roleplaying are there any established D&D 4e adventures that I could use as a template for my adventure construction that followed this theme?  Also what Dark Sun locations would be ideal for the players to trek to for such adventure?  I was thinking of only dividing the crown into 3 or 4 parts.

I believe in Marauders of the Dune Sea, they mention that the crown is split into 3 or 4 parts.

Exactly.  I am looking for some existing 4e adventures that follow the mold of reassembling an artifact from a lost age.  I can then re-flavor it as Dark Sun adventures for my group.

In my campaign, my players have found the three parts of the Crown of Dust and reassembled it. Now they intend to use it, as long as with four elemental relics (only found one so far), to awaken Ul-Athra from its eternal slumber to get hit help to fight against the sorcerer-kings and the Dragon.
