Aug 08, 2010 3:55:58 I read three big "I've got the book" threads but found little about the animist shaman build. What's the deal? Anyone know how it works?

Aug 08, 2010 6:37:07 As far as I can tell it works like other shamans but the spirit companion is more elemental in nature. It probably shares some aspects with the world speaker shaman.

The Animist Shaman is much more "elemental" in nature. Also, you tend to "blow up" your spirit companion for various effects. It's fairly different for the shaman in my opinion, given the exploding companion bit. Also, you can summon your spirit companion as a free action and it gives +2 to saving throws.

I don't have a Primal Power or PHB2 to compare fully in front of me right now, and claim "it's Sunday and I am being lazy" instead of getting either of those

If I remember correctly, it was Wisdom/Intelligence.

Aug 10, 2010 16:31:48 He's kind of a warlordy-shaman. The animist at-will dismisses yor companion and gives an adjacent enemy a free basic attack with a bonus to attack and damage. They have a couple other powers along these lines.

Most of the attacks involve dismissing your companion, but an animist feature is you get to summon your companion for free at the stat of every turn if it isn't present.

Granted, I understand most Shamans don't want to be anywhere near melee range, but the previous Shaman King reference has me curious to see if it would work.

Unfortunately not, but then, I seem to recall forced integrations happening. The Ryu/Tokagero arc springs to mind immediately, and Manta got it late in the anime....
