I don't know if anyone remembers this one, but I have very fond memories of the PC game Dark Sun: Shattered Lands by TSR. It was a flawed game (the end battle was impossible) but I think correctly captures the mood of the Campaign Setting.

One of the coolest things about it was that you start out in the Gladiator Slave Penns. As the player you are forced to fight ever harder battles day after day until you realise there your only chance of survival is to try and escape because the fights keep getting harder until they finish you off.

Gladiatorial fights being core to establish Dark Sun's gritty feeling. (To me the regular to-the-death gladiatorial games clearly impress on the players that the few remaining places of civilization are not exactly civilized) .

> Should the upcomming (fingers-crossed 2010) Dark Sun Campaign Setting specifically mention gladiator games? Or would you rather not?

Perhaps some special rules for crowd interraction? Mention specific animals or typical staged fights? I think it would be good to have some background on who runs these/who profits/how characters are [strikethrough]suckered [/strikethrough]recruited. what purpose they serve (focus and purge population aggression)

If so, what would be a good page count?

Perhaps a simple mechanic, but not a whole system.

I imagine it would/will refer to Dragon's gladiatorial combat article, with appropriate modifications or add-ons.
