| #1RalofTyrOct 15, 2010 16:35:26 | When I first heard of Dark Sun, I was reading an Argentine comic book called, Race of Scorpions and Argentina and Dark Sun have become connected in my mind to this day. So, while I'm here, I'll try to create a Dark Sun society based off of Argentine society. Geography: A high desert with a lush verdant belt to the north, scrub-plains desert to the south and mountains to the west. The sea of silt would be to the east. Foreign Relations: There are other kingdoms to the North and over the mountains. Cities: It's an empire and not full of city-states. There's a capital city in the verdant belt and numerous cities where there can be. However, the capital city is the focus and the most important city in the area. Each city is run by a high-templar. Art: the cities are designed with more works of art and artisans are admired. Government: Imperial (an Emperess) that rules with absolute power. There isn't a SK. But a succession of military coups and dictators that over time claim themselves to be royalty. Templars run the government; they are corrupt and beaurcratic. Everyone in the Empire is accounted for. There are check points in between cities and all must have a form of state ID. Nobles: Each city has their own set of nobles. Unlike in Rome, there are no group of ultra powerful nobles that own a lot of the land. They don't like to travel. However, it's not uncommon for a noble to own land in multiple cities. The People: Are passive and they speak a distinct different language that is dominated by the capital. They are passive and used to being pushed around. They are happy with their little lives. Nothing's free and they expect to get paid for every little thing. The Food: Lots of sweets, bread, pasta, beer and wine with various veggies. Meat is very important and plentiful there. The Arena: Each city has an arena as they love gladiatorial sports. The capital has two Arenas; one for the nobles and one for the common-folk. Currency: Sliver rules; everthing that costs a ceramic costs a silver and copper are bits. Gold is worth a lot more so any character with GP will be considered weathy. Metal: there's no shortage of metals here. Leather is also popular. Merchants: few nobles consider trade a viable means of a living so there are mechant houses, but heavily regulated by the government. Roads: there are many roads there and most are toll roads. Crime: the capital has a serious crime problem with pick-pockets and the people there will gladly take avantage of someone just to get a few coins from them. Religion: There are five-Gods here; The God of the Sky, fire, the earth, water and death. Magic: The role of the elemential clerics for their own gods has caused magic to be considered evil. Defilers are hunted down and Perservers are banished. Magic is a threat to the Emperor. Reading and Writing: isn't forbiden and encouraged. Rain: comes from over the mountains. The mountains are perminatly snow-capped. |
