So...

Anyone know what happened to Athas.org? I can't seem to get it to load.

Thanks in advance!

Our evil WotC overlords shut it down. No competition from old editions I guess... ;)

Any chance of someone posting the unfinished projects ie Deadlands and Balic?

Balic is an ongoing project, I believe the cruch has been removed and only the fluff is included.

Deadlands is so full of crunch as to make it quite difficult to be converted to a fluff-only supplement.

I know there are benefits to having your own domain and server, but is there anything wrong with re-establishing the community as a group in the Wizards community site? (By that I mean a unique group forum/wiki/blog, not just here on the main-category world forum.)

But the ones who dislike WOTC and the new edition will complain.
There was a post for a Pathfinder Dark Sun full of the usual tired crusading in the forum there, by example. So...

athas.org group was set up by flip many moons ago.  The wiki could be used for posting content and expand the forum  there with the same titles and such and you could reserrect the site there.

Wait, the hyperbole and the winking emoticon didn't tip you off? He was joking.

Yeah, I was fairly confident that wasn't actually the case, but does someone authoritative have any input?

There's joking about our forum moderators being evil overlord masters, and there's joking that they shut the website down, and then there's joking because he has no idea what's going on, and then there's joking that he does know what's going on but can't tell us directly and thus includes a wink. I'm not sure which he intended the wink for... but since we haven't heard from Athas.orgians... I assumed the worst but included a "?".

It was hard enough to get "official" responses on the actual Athas.org board!

Ask flip, you should find him using the People search engine on this board.

Athas.org goes down regularly. So much so I don't even blink when it happens. I'd only start wondering/panicking if it stays down longer than a couple weeks.

I can't decide what is official and what isn't. The folks from athas.org can, as far as I know. I'm just not sure if some of those downloads are fan made and aren't canon while the other downloads, like Dregoth Ascending or Secrets of the Dead Lands, are canon.

By official material Masato might be referring to legacy material left unpublished by TSR, and hosted on Athas.org. That's Secrets of the Dead Lands and Dregoth Ascending. The former was broken down into a monster manual - Terrors of the Dead Lands - and published by Athas.org, and the latter presented whole with only 3e adaptations brought into it.

The fluff part of Secrets has yet to be published, as it also contains a lot of crunch bits.

Thank you for the input. As far as I know Athas.org can create new official Dark Sun Products, 2nd Ed and 3rd Ed? I just though that some aren't official, only fanprojects, like Villages of the Wastes or Wisdom of the Drylanders (which IIRC I saw on Braxs website some years ago, though it would deserve to be official ;) ).
I hoped that someone from Athas.org would tell me what they consider canon and what not, it's cool if everything on athas.org is canon, I'm just asking to be sure :D.

BTW what Kind of Programm did TSR used for Secrets of the Dead Lands and Dregoth Ascending, I can open the .doc files and the others with notepad++ but it seems that the pics can't be opened (maps and pics in the documents)

If you're talking about the rough map that was with Dregoth Ascending, IIRC it was corel draw from an early Mac.
