Is there a complete Heroic-to-Epic adventure path planned for Dark Sun, or is Marauders gonna be it... then leave DM's to their own imaginations and the pages of Dungeon while WotC works on the next campaign setting?  Marauders does claim to be "stand alone," and it starts at level 2 instead of level 1 (though, to be fair, Bloodsand Arena was a level 1 adventure), so it doesn't appear to be part of any eventual bigger picture.

It's the same as for Forgotten Realms or Eberron: 3 books, one of them an adventure. That's it.

Forgotten Realms and Eberron have had tremendous support (plenty of original adventures) in DDI, if you have a subscription. I suggest getting one, as Dark Sun will also be extensively covered in its pages.

Are you talking about Dungeon, and Dragon magazines, or are there other places to find original adventures in DDI?

Dungeon magazine is for GM's.  Dragon is for players.

Dungeon would have adventures and other DM resources, while Dragon would have things for players like DDI-exclusive themes, the first of which (escaped slave) is already scheduled. Articles that don't fall under Dragon/Dungeon tend to be preview, excerpt, and editorial material (I think).

I would really love to see a 1 through 30 adventure path for Dark Sun.  I also would really like a pony...

Just to be clear, as I understand it Marauders can be run for parties who are between levels 2 and 5. It does not take you from level 2 to level 5.

Agreed, and make it not have to do with Rajaat and his champions.  Not because I'm a Rajaat-h8r, but because then it would have to fill out more of the setting if it delt with a BBEG other than the obvious, something like Mual-Tar from Dragon 370.

Oh, and I wanna pony too!

I'm creating my own adventure path as I described earlier on these forums, based on the 2e boxed set, "City by the Silt Sea."  There was so much information in that boxed set that I'm finding it very easy to create an entire campaign based on the lore of Giustenal, Taraskir and Dregoth.  It should prove to be quite epic for my players.

I suppose you could play Bloodsand Arena at 1st, and hand-wave them to 2nd to start Marauders, or simply start Marauders at 2nd.

Ya, I've been browsing eBay, and I see there are several copies of Bloodsand Arena available right now.  I imagine that the price will go up considerably once Dark Sun is released next month.  I should probably buy now!

There's probably a 1st level adventure in the campaign setting book that hooks into Marauders of the Dune Sea, similar to the Eberron CS.

again... from the website... Undecided

in the campaign setting description. "It also presents a short, ready-to-play introductory adventure."

if the other books are any example it will take players from level 1 to 2.

Oh, and someone hurry up and put in a submission for Dungeon for a Dark Sun adventure. Make it awesome, please...

To be honest, if you are approved I suspect you would get a sneak peak at the rules. Generally you submit 500 words, then work on it further if approved. Rules are here, hurry up and do the work (I need to mow the lawn tomorrow...).

I'm blogging about my adventure. I'm stealing from Dungeon a lot. I might slap up some original stuff in the blog.

I could, of course, use advice and the like. I realize my campaign is probably a little "lopsided" in some respects, namely that one of the PCs is slated to become a Sorcerer-King, but hey, it's fun for them. And they seem pretty interested now that I've got the Dark Sun hooks in them.

The idea is to follow the DMG2 suggested course for the campaign:

Heroic - One character has a future as a ruler. The party helps him achieve that.
Paragon - Having come to power, the party has to fight to survive.
Epic - The party attempts to quell additional rebellions and forcefully create stability which will flourish for a zillion years.

Admittedly, Dark Sun puts its own bent on this. He's either going to spend his entire Paragon and Epic paths fighting the other socrerer-kings (if he tries to be good), or he's going to be a ruthless  tyrant who puts down rebellions and the like (if he plays the part of sorcerer-king).

And of course this is assuming I still live in the same city as these guys next year.

Yup, and from the front cover 'An adventure for characters of 2nd-5th level'. The use of 'take' in the webpage is ok.. but ambiguous. Bear in mind it's only a 32 page adventure. ;)

The whole basis of my adventure idea hinges on whether Goblins exist or not, do you think they would give me a sneak peak before I send in my proposal?

...go mow your lawn.

Goblins exist. They're in the Encounters Dark Sun stuff. Plus, there has been a posting already regarding the issue of what races exist now. Basically they are resetting everything, and making (almost?) zero exclusions.

I think they may just be entirely throwing away the extermination theme.

Their reasoning is they want new players of the game to be able to easily get into the game. Having to learn a list of monsters which don't exist isn't something they wanted new players to do.

This is not accurate.  The author of the Fury of the Wastewalker himself explicitly stated that he was just using their stats, and they were supposed to be a random sand people, desert nomads types.  The creature names and types were supposed to be changed, but this was missed in the last round of editing.  The monsters in that encounter were not intended to be goblins.

His exact quote is:

Goblins: My decision to include "goblins" was purely technical. I meant to describe them as desert sand people rather than straight-up D&D-style goblins, but i missed this in the final round of editing. Feel free to reskin them as small desert sand people instead of goblins if that makes you more comfortable.

The article above, to me, implies that they aren't going to really encourage or say, "This does not exist."

But, I could be reading too much into it. I sort of figured they were doing away with the extermination theme. It did feel kind of weird to me, to do that.

Unfortunately, when it comes to Mauraders of the Dune Sea, you actually *do* get a pony.

I was really excited about seeing the map included with MotDS, having seen what I thought was a little slice of it on the back cover of the module.  I thought: Nice! Elven Market map!

Unfortunately, the map included in the module is basically just Deserts of Athas on one side (maybe with some slight edits), and a generic non-Athasian marketplace with some horses and ox carts on the other.  What gives?!  Horses on Athas?  Shingled roofs?  They did throw some sand patches onto the ground, to make it more "desert-y".  This map seems way, way wrong to me.

Horses on Athas!  Blasphemey!  That's horrible.  That is just wrong.  If they have horses on Athas I'm gonna be real upset.  In the preview material they even say that there are no horses or camels on the world.

Where can I view this stuff? The horses thing is...troublesome.

I know kanks' "special" mount ability is simply that if they have attacked and grabbed another creature (which is part of their standard attack if they hit), then their rider gets combat advantage against the grabbed creature.

The horse thing actually seems to be nothing but pure laziness.  Seriously, all they did was take the files for Dungeon Tiles and make the map out of those.  Thus, quite a bit of it looks out of place on Athas simply because it is almost entirely tiles designed specifically for traditional fantasy settings.  They didn't bother to take the time to alter the images to make them fit Athas.  A shortcut without thought (or care) for repercussions on potential newbies exploring Athas for the first time.  Nothing more.

They had a huge article where they talked about retroactive continuity, and messing with things like tieflings and dragonborn. They shoehorned a bunch of new material into the setting specifically to make things easier for newbies.

Now they go and something like this...

It's strange that Bloodsand Arena (a free module, if you were lucky enough to get a copy on Free Game Day), has three completely new custom maps that really show off the "feel" of this setting, and the pay-for module gives you a reprint of some Dungeon Tiles.

Since it seems that I'm in a complaining mood: The encounters in the module that do not use the poster map use maps based on Dungeon Tiles.  While this is not such a terrible thing, the only encounters that specifically tell you which Dungeon Tiles it uses are the ones that use Deserts of Athas.

I'll be substituting my DSA maps for MotDS, if I run it.  For now, I'm thinking of retrofitting some of the old modules for 4th edition Dark Sun.

i have a similar problem with the maps in Marauders of Dune Sea. The first and third encounters state that they use the poster map, which is a lil dissapointing that it isnt very original i supose i can still use it for other games but then why did i buy two sets of city tiles in the first place? anywho my real problem is that besides the first and third encounter none of them tell you wich tiles are being used? the second encounter is obviously the desert of athas set but beyond that im not sure what tiles were used to construct the inside of the dungeon? am i gona have to wait for the master sets? are these old tile sets? are they still in print now so i can run this adventure now?

Anyone know if the maps in the module have been put online in any of WOTC's map a week things? I was hoping to be able to print them from their like they did with other modules but I can't seem to find them.
