I'm just wondering, since so far I've only picked up the DSCS and not the creature ctalogue...

Are there options for BM Ranger Companions in the DSCC?  I haven't noticed anything in the DSCS.  With so many of the options from Martial Power simply not existing in Athas, I was hoping for rules for Rangers to have something Athas-specific as an option.

The stock answer you're going to hear is "that would make a good Dragon article."

Now for something you can actually use.  I say play it like Fallout 3 with hideous mutant versions of the beasts from Martial Power.  There are already a fair amount of large predatory cats, hawks, lizards, serpants, and spiders in Athas.  The furry stuff just needs a layer of arcane radiation to be Dark Sun approved.

If you really like playing the Beastmaster and are familiar with what the class needs, try writing up some Dark Sun Beasts yourself and send that in.

Suggestions for beasts for the ranger...

  • Bear: Athasian sloth, klar.

  • Boar: Tembo, bonclaw baazrag, sand howler.

  • Cat: Tagster, tigone, kirre.

  • Lizard: Dagorran, gorak, jhakar, lirr.

  • Raptor: Razorwing, kes'trekel.

  • Serpent: Snakes are a part of the fauna of Dark Sun.  Some new ones are interesting.

  • Spider: Antloid, crystal spider, mastyrial and, of course, scorpians and spiders.

  • Wolf: Rasclinn, zhackal.

This thread is really a (fun / horrible) read when you hang around a retirement home long enough that you read BM with it's more traditional meaning before thinking "beast master."

I'm curious as to what powers such a "BM Ranger" would have in your opinion. ;)

Seismic Strike?  Driving the Quarry?  Rapid Volley?  Singular Shot?

...Jarring Salvo?

I'm sorry I contributed to this.
