Sep 24, 2008 8:13:00 Yup its me again, Yup I'm back with more questions, Nope these question threads will probably never end until I ask about everything and anything.

Borys citadel? Whats this place about. I'm guessing it was a stronghold (resting point) for the dragon at one point. How often was he there? What did he use the citadel for? Did others serve the dragon in the citadel and if so what did they do, who were they? How long did the citadel stand before it became a ruin? How did it become a ruin? What makes this an interesting place to include in a adventure?

If any info can be given I would appreciate it more than (look in this book) because I don't have many books to look in and won't have them or new pdf's for a long time.

Sep 24, 2008 8:20:59 If you refer to a certain fortress in the Valley of Dust and Fire, then it's a giant steel or iron fortress (now vacant and rusted through, probably, due to the Cerulean Storm) that houses many Ur-Draxan warriors and their roc mounts.

Sep 24, 2008 8:35:19 I presume that you are referring to the citadel that lies in the Great Alluvial Sand Wastes? It is covered in the novel The Crimson Legion - basically put, it is a citadel where Rikus encounters a number of undead knights awaiting the return of Borys. They mistake Rikus for Borys (because Rikus is carrying the Scourge, iirc) and one of the wraiths takes possession of Rikus, forcing him to do their bidding. It's large and empty and not much happens there in the novel besides the above.

Sep 24, 2008 9:00:03 IIRC it's shaped as a giant two- or four-wheeled cart, either old style or Roman, dunno. Weird shape for a citadel. Denning must have been smoking a good one that day.

Sep 24, 2008 12:46:22 inside the citadel lay the corpses of the wraiths and all their weapons and armor, not to mention the steel components of funereal attire. That being said, if I where a mercena.....adventureer, I'd fight my way into the place and strip it of everything valuable, then take all the wall panels depicting the hstory of Borys and the cleansing wars and sell 'em in Tyr.

Its in the Valey of Dust and Fire which in the Sea of Silt and it doesn't appear on standard Darksun maps. See Valey of Dust and Fire expansion for more details and a map.

Theres a map of it in one of my novels I believe, I will have to unpack them and check. If its one and the same then the newer tyr region map I downloaded shows a peek on it.

More or less. The city at the end of the Cerulean Storm was Ur Draxa.

Can't really think how the city stayed secret for 200 years with all the divination spells and psionic abilities nit to mentuion things like shapechange into something anf fly over the area.

Ur Draxa was warded vs teleportation and the like, but I don't think the valley was IIRC.

Sep 25, 2008 6:17:52 Hmm, Unless its been stated elsewhere maybe borys didn't create the city, maybe it was made by rajaat. Or maybe the dragon did make it and he's just got some serious "plot device" spells.

Wouldn't be impossible to mask a city from psionic/arcane/elemental/divine scrying and making something invisable wouldn't be hard for godly beings like the dragon or rajaat. Plus the ring of fire is not a very visited area. Getting to it would be very hard and I doubt anyone outside the SK's would even be aware of the islands existence. Besides maybe those very few lucky enough to survive the voyage to the ring of fire and then back again.

Just a smart creature (Borys) realized the prison he created for Rajaat (A huge Obsidian Sphere) needed to be guarded at all times by loyal retainers (Templars) and so built a city and staffed it. Then he took off around Athas to glean power and energy from all living things to power the spells that bound rajaat.

Indeed. The timeline also gives us a date for the construction of Ur Draxa: Year of Silt's Defiance, 167th King's Age. It also notes that Borys uses the booty gained from Yaramuke to finance its construction.

Its probably a safe bet that some rituals/epic spells were used to make the city. Its not like you could construct that wall around it using the technology and resources Athas had. I've always wondered that maybe the Ring of Fire was a byproduxct of Borys rage period in the years following the rebellion.

1) a creation of the narrative stroy-tellers and adventure crafters to make an impossibly difficult place to get to.

2) a reaction of an "M" class planet to massive fluctuations in in magnetic field brought on by a hug loss of weight and desity due to the evaporation caused by rising heat, all brought on by an over use of destructive force. (A nuclear desert essentially, which causes massive rents in the magnetic shield, allowing cosmic rays and a interplanetary particles to collide with the naked flesh of Athas.)

or.....it could have been halfling spaceships
