Ello all, need some advice on how to work being an active bounty hunter into Dark sun.

Playing a character who as part of her background is a bounty hunter. Rather than just say she is a bounty hunter and role play it and never actually do anything in game time, what advice, rules etc would u bring in to allow her to be an active Bounty huntress??

Let me make it clear im not expecting xp or any gain from this.

Any advice from DM's would be handy

Ty all

Best thing you could do is talk to your DM and see what he/she thinks. In my campaign I would just have it known that is your trade and templars and others would come to you offering you reward for capturing slaves and criminals that have escaped... of course the more the merrirer.
Main skills should include survival and nature  but alot of the skill challenges involved could involve many of them.
Specialties should include none lethal was to subdue your prey. Think it would be easy to work out something.

It should fine as an element of your backstory tied to most any class. According to the Compendium, there are two Backgrounds that you could take: "Ivory Triangle - Driven Bounty Hunter" (Dark Sun Campaign Setting) and "Occupation - Bounty Hunter" (Dragon 373). But these are certianly optional.

Things to figure out: why your character will work alongside the party, and what bounties your character had pursued before. (The key thing is that your bounty hunting career doesn't block others' adventures; but it can be a great source of plot hooks, side-quests, etc.)

Templars aside, it seems quite reasonable for the Nobles in a city to pay for various bounty hunters to track down debtors and turncoats in their ranks. (If I was playing a bounty hunter, I imagine I'd have to have some kind of morality where I'd turn down certain kinds of jobs.)

As a DM I would definitely welcome this in my Dark Sun campaign.  It lends itself to so many interesting adventures and moral questions!

It would make it interesting if your PC is on a hunt for a particular escaped slave and within your party there is an escaped slave whom you argue with constantly....maybe you will end up with a bounty for the PC within your own group!! hmmm.....

The normal raiding parties that your group runs into in the desert would probably consider you a slaver for capturing slaves just to bring them back to their owners....

You are excepting bounties for a particular noble and in the overall storyline the DM makes your noble the villain....

Quite simply, say she is a bounty hunter and role play it and actually explore it in game time.  Honestly, this is the kinda thing DMs love, it's like you're a plot-hook waiting to happen.

There are many factions in the Dark Sun world who would be happy to hire someone to help 'clean up' one of their problems, and frequently do.  So just make yourself available.  You'd need to make money and contacts to get your career going, meaning you'd probably see a little time 'adventuring'.  But in between those times, you'll be talking to what contacts you've made along the way, letting them know your skills, and that you're available, when you are.  Aim wisely, don't go knocking on House Stel's door expecting something you can handle until you're well into Paragon tier, but rather if you encounter a smaller mercantile house that is slighted by another, have a discreet word with them.  If House Tsalaxa in your campaign still dabbles in such affairs (it traditionally does), try making a few contacts with them to see if you can get some work.

Just really explore the role by making it a point to very actively market yourself in-game.  The more effort a player makes with their character, the more DMs tend to take note, and do something about it.
