While they have been playing for a while they don't normally get too involved in the world, most of the time they play their parts and let the GM hold on to the steering wheel. My plan is to have them in either Balic or Tyr(Pre-Rebellion) as slaves in the arena and then after winning their freedom(The reagents that they get from the Id Fiend that they kill pays for their freedom) They get "hired" by a Merchant house to excavate a small ruin found a few days travel from the city.

Just have it be a repository of psionic power points (so even Epic psionicists won't run out anytime soon using all max augments), rechargable. - Don't just steal away all the PCs' loot. That will make sure the "campaign" ends soon. Make sure they get something (trivial-looking?) they can keep. - Work the trap in reverse: the thieves left a wounded Silt Runner behind. The PCs will expect a wilderness monster out in the wilderness. Another hint would be, while looking for a safe campsite, they sight the Thieves' mounts from a distance and then duck back to cover. - I like the line "the Questgiver has a back-up plan". Keep thinking like that so the PCs get the feeling of 'wheels within wheels'. As they get more powerful, they can see more of the wheels and affect the smaller gears instead of BEING the smaller gears. - I also like that the Questgiver does not know the full extent of the Orb's power. You can bring it back from time to time with newly-discovered abilities that cause new problems. - Find out if the PCs want to be gladiators in the arena. If not, start with "you owe House Xyz a debt to perform some task, and they've come to collect. Here's what they want from you." - You also could have them gain their freedom by edict - be in Tyr at just the right time - and now they need a way to support themselves since their old gig, such as it was, just evaporated. |
