Can someone teach me about Kreens?

They have any secrets?

They're taste for elfs has a good explanation for?

Once upon a time, they were diferent?

The sun, the land, the magic, does any of those changed how Kreens interact/look like/live as?

sidenote: Distritc 9 was a good movie only because the aliens looked like Kreens to me.

Aug 04, 2010 14:56:20 In 2e there were adventures and locations that expanded the kreen race and racial history. Finding old prints of that material would probably be what your looking for.

Or you can make up your own stuff. I like the idea of Kreen ancestral memories. As a DM it allows me to use it as a plot device to drive the story if there are Thri-kreen party members. Don't over use it in adventures, or it may lose its appeal.

Kreen unfamiliar with other races often misunderstand sleep as a bad habit. Once they figure out that, no, the squishies actually need sleep, they may be scared, confused, or curious. They may take up watching party as they sleep... From a foot away from their faces ("Zzzz... Zzzz.... mm... *YAWN* Izzit morn-AAHHH!" "This 'waking up' appears to be quite uncomfortable, why do you not dread sleep?").

Those unfamiliar with dealing with non-Kreen will appear to be bullies at first, as they try to figure out who they're supposed to answer too (and if noone tells them to quit being a jerk, they figure they're supposed to be in charge). After a few days, he'll calm down.

Kreen merchants consider bargaining a form of hunting, but generally do not like ripping off people because it's no different than eating carrion. Kreen merchants also consider it improper to sell an item without letting the customer know everywhere it's been, who it was made by, what it was made for, past satisfied customers the kreen has had, mentors in trading, their standing within their clan... *Mul buyer falls over from lack of sleep* (I'll actually allow my players to get good deals from Thri-Kreen merchants, but they'll have to make endurance checks in addition to social skills checks). The deal is considered done when they've come to a price both of the buyer and seller feel good with.

Kreen actually don't care to eat elves more than anyone else (which is about as much as anyone cares to eat the Kreen, if they have to they will, but otherwise real food is prefered). However, there is something in elf flesh is just so damn tasty, that keeps calling back (throw in some starvation, and it becomes really hard not to remark about how great that one elf tasted). The elves view of Thri-Kreen as boogeymen-but-real are a bit overblown, but there's nothing the Kreen can do about it.

They do have a racial memory, and may actually reincarnate after death (not just their mythology, there are kids born that politely ask for their property, and it's given to them). Despite their cunning and almost genetic maturity, however, they don't become wiser as they age.

Most Kreen do not have any use for arcane magic. An arcane Kreen character would be an oddity. A defiler Kreen would appear to be a contradiction to others of his race, and even to others. Kreen are highly respectful of the land, and the Kreen empire would probably be the cushiest place on Athas. (Psionic characters are still quite common and respected, though).

Sidenote: I enjoyed District 9 because it wasn't as full of hippie crap as Avatar (this coming from a long-haired liberal whose first CD was Dark Side of the Moon), and I could point to various bits of combat and think "I remember that gun in (Half-Life 2, Rise of the Triad, other FPSes.)"

This book comes in a Dark Sun Box Set? I Google'd the image of the front and i'm sure i've seen it in a friend's house when looking through his Dark Sun Material (didn't had much time to pay real attention tho)

Nope, it was simply a 2E Dark Sun softcover supplement. It is indeed very useful for getting a feel for kreen culture, world view, et al, and well worth the (small) effort to acquire.

The usual 'Dwarf vs Elves Tolkien Grudge', but in this case Kreens vs Elves, so by reading Elves of Athas i would dig deeper on how Kreens interact...

The book, in itself, does the same great job for elves as Kreen does for kreen.
