| #1rolesj1Sep 14, 2010 10:04:12 | Does anyone know when the character builder will be updated for Dark Sun? I thought it was this week. |
| #2graymerSep 14, 2010 10:51:02 | 9/21 - Both DS and Essentials stuff will be tossed in the CB. |
| #3longlive2ndeditionSep 14, 2010 17:02:19 | Yep like Graymer said, 9/21. And if you want Dark Sun your also being spoonfed Essentials at the same time whether you like it or not . |
| #4FlashbackJonSep 15, 2010 9:46:46 | The condescension in this thread is amazing! "Don't update the Character Builder! You might accidentally get some PHB2 in there, and you wouldn't want that!" |
| #5ian.thomsonSep 15, 2010 9:57:25 | I know, right, FlashbackJon? All that mess about backgrounds, that just totally ruins my game because WotC is holding a gun to my head and will shoot if I don't play with all the material. And then the damn cereal company keeps putting free toys in my cereal box, and it's completely reasonable for me to complain that I have to play with them instead of just throwing them away and leaving the people that want to play with those toys to their own devices. Yep like Graymer said, 9/21. And if you want Dark Sun your also being spoonfed Essentials at the same time whether you like it or not Ok, I don't even have a DDI subscription, and I know you can just click "Manage," "Campaign settings," scroll down and uncheck "D&D Essentials." I've seen my DM do it to clear the FR-specific stuff out when we started Eberron, and we got it set up as much as we can for when I start the Dark Sun campaign. Also, I even know Essentials is backwards compatible. All past materials are still applicable. |
| #6darkjedi26Sep 15, 2010 12:46:54 | Just announced, it won't be until september now. |
| #7errvaluniaSep 15, 2010 13:01:44 | I know, right, FlashbackJon? All that mess about backgrounds, that just totally ruins my game because WotC is holding a gun to my head and will shoot if I don't play with all the material. You *can* make Essentials builds & abilities and such "illegal" for your campaign and basically opt out. BUT what people are complaining about is that a lot of the rules updates are considered *errata* and there is NOT a "don't give me errata" button. So, if you update your character builder, your character will be built using any Essentials rules. I'm not saying that's a good or bad thing, I'm just saying before you start mocking people make sure you've actually paid attention to what they're complaining about. |
| #8snakefeather1Sep 15, 2010 13:12:06 | Yeah, I just wish they would treat Essentials like an alternate D&D line, rather than a replacement D&D line. I just bought Dark Sun and don't really want it to be immediately errata'd obsolete. I'd like an option when I first turn on the CB to select "Essentials" or "Traditional". They ran D&D and AD&D seperately at the same time, I don't see why they can't run Essentials and Traditional at the same time without getting them all gobbed together. |
| #9ian.thomsonSep 15, 2010 13:57:03 |
May I see a source that says there is going to be errata that overwrites standing rules in such a way as to make WotC out to be liars when they said that old material will still be usable and that essentials is optional? |

There is nothing in essentials that renders Dark Sun obsolete. |
| #11snakefeather1Sep 15, 2010 14:19:23 | Now I'm no expert here, but what is the Rules Compendium? I haven't got it, so I really don't know, but my understanding is that it's part of the Essentials line. Yet it is the new rules set for Traditional 4e as well, is it not? Everything that has been changed for the Compendium has been changed for 4e. There is no seperate set of rules for Essentials and traditional 4e from here on out. |
| #12ayanelSep 15, 2010 14:37:29 | Here is a PDF from Wizards with the Essentials rule updates. |
| #13Silverblade_The_EnchanterSep 15, 2010 14:47:25 | a note was just recieved no update for DDI until october now ![]() |
| #14cmdlukeSep 15, 2010 14:51:30 | what? no update til october? can you post a link? way to drop the ball, wotc. its not like you have been planning these changes for months or anything. can't we just get a DS update and then an essentials update in october? |
| #15rollawaythestoneSep 15, 2010 15:18:27 | a note was just recieved no update for DDI until october now ![]() |
| #16PennarinSep 15, 2010 15:26:25 | Don't be surprised anyone if WotC finds it challenging to integrate the awesomeness that is Dark Sun ![]() |
| #17sir_sparhawkSep 15, 2010 15:39:51 | Watch "early" October be somewhere near the 25th. Hey, it's still Oct. Thank god Wizards doesn't make airplanes. ffs guys, get it together. |
| #18Duke5150Sep 15, 2010 16:31:37 | It will either be the 5th or the 12th of Oct. |
| #19NyarlathotepSep 15, 2010 21:28:29 |
In theory, it should be the 5th, since that would be when the normal update for October would be. If it gets delayed AGAIN after that, I am going to be madder than hell. |
| #20Pashalik_MonsSep 15, 2010 21:48:48 | A) The Compendium changes very little from the traditional rules, which is my hope, which indicates that Essentials is fundamentally the same as traditional with very minor changes (basically errata and not a new rules set at all). This is the one. |
