It's the 22nd, and still no update? Anyone has any concrete info? We had to postpone the start of our Dark Sun campaign once again.

It's just the standard October update.  Whichever day that is.

In theory (assuming they stick to the normal pattern of the first Tuesday), it would be the fifth.  Given that there have already been two delays, I am not counting on it though.

Consider that the change for Dark Sun involves adding character Theme support.  It's not just a data update, it's also a change to the way characters are put together.  As a software developer, I can appreciate what a pain in the rear that could be to have to do.

Now, they've known about this for months (themes were in my ARC, which I had in November of last year) so supposedly there's time to implement ... but then, who knows how closely the divisions talk to each other?

Sure, but the fact that they have had two delays already tells me that they are running into some sort of major issue.  Who knows when they will have it sorted out?  Could be tomorrow, could be next year.  My money is on 'soon'.

Chances are the development team was not given some key info until late in the dev process and that caused the delay. Add this to trying to integrate two major changes, DS and Essentials, in the same build and you've basically put the guys on the ground in a world of hurt. If your going to blame anyone blame the Project Managers and probably Marketing (they are always screwing shite up Innocent ). The PMs for not pushing back and getting realistic deadlines and the "Decision Makers" for not giving a shite about the people who actually have to get the work done (over work'em, devs are a dime a dozen in their minds  ).

you're quite right,sir.
it's not the monkey's fault,it's the organ-grinder's(to coin an old saying).
personally,if they had not bothered with putting essentials on the cb(or not bothered with essentials at all,but that's just me)and put ds and psipower on,this month,i think they would have done it by now.
the dev's have done good work up till now,it's just the management that gives them unreasonable demands(ain't it always?lol)

You are right i stating that management could have handled this better. I believe the biggest problem is indeed the combination of psionic power, dark sun and the essentials.  Especially the essentials line, which introduces a complete rule update. You could call it 4.1. Introducing these updates in the builder is a complete system rework. Imagine reworking all the feats, the whole implement system, combining essentials with normal classes, and introducing the theme system from Dark Sun. All this is a lot of code changing and a lot of possible bugs, errors, etc. I feel sorry for the guys.

October 12 is the date for Character builder update.  The monster builder will update sometime later in the month.  The update will have Dark Sun, Psionic Power, and the first Essetails Heroes book.

My bad.  It looks like the CB update does not include DS and Essentials.  I was confused because they are going into the compendium, for whatever that is worth.

I felt much the same, I was just not able to muster your wit, your eloquence, your flair for evocative language in expressing my dismay.

Thanks for the update Baronspam.

I was hoping to get a Dark Sun/Psionic Character Builder and Monster Building right after the CS books came out. But now that it looks like there won't be an update until November at the earliest, I haven't renewed my yearly subscription.

For what its worth Wizards: I'm not renewing until I get adventure tools and a character builder fit for Dark Sun.
