| #1vizierJul 01, 2009 20:37:42 | (See finished map links below) This is a work in progress but progress is going very fast. Now that I have broken through the glass ceiling with Sketchup you guys and the Dark Sun community in general can expect some fantasic resources coming very soon (like a few days). To that end, this is a beta version of what I hope will become the new "unofficial" map of Tyr. Once I get all the buildings modeled up I can paint them very easily. Then the really fun stuff begins. I am going to place unique buildings in there and as a long term goal all the points of interest described in the books will be custom building with these medium quality buildings as the filler. And the best part is this will be available as a vector map. That means that you can zoom in as far as you want to go, from a birds eye view all the way to combat grid level. As you can see I am modeling this right off the OFFICIAL boxed set map(!!) http://www.wiijii.com/vizier50/DnD%20files/Gallery/Full%20Tyr%20Construction%20WEB2.jpg Heres what the finished product will be rendered with, the buildings dont have textures or colors yet obvthis is still a bet but a version: http://www.wiijii.com/vizier50/DnD%20files/Gallery/Full%20Tyr%20Construction_lightup3%20web.jpg |
| #2Silverblade_The_EnchanterJul 02, 2009 6:48:11 | DAMN you are good!! ![]() hm, I'm tempted...long time ago I wanted to do such stuff, but art progs and PCs back then simpy weren't up to it, see my Dark Sun Arena as to limits I had back then http://www.silverblades-suitcase.com/artofadreamer/3d/arena1.jpg later I hit more limits with better apps due to 32 bit RAM limits, but still managed to make this pic of the Rock of Bral form Spelljammer http://www.silverblades-suitcase.com/sj/bral/bral5a1.jpg now that I have 8 gig RAM 64 bit system...hm... working on some Drow stuff at moment though. Keep up the good work, yer awesome!! ![]() |
| #3vizierJul 02, 2009 11:06:23 | DAMN you are good!! Hey thats awesome for back in the day! You really captured the feel of the setting with the color selection and lighting. Sketchup is a free full version download and its super easy and fun to use...check it out! It will suck you in though... Heres an update...things are moving along very fast as you can see. What do you think about the colorization of the buildings? I thought that for starters I will paint the tops of the buildings in similar colors to what is on the official map. http://www.wiijii.com/vizier50/DnD%20files/Gallery/Web%20Full%20Tyr%20Construction%2070%20percent.jpg http://www.wiijii.com/vizier50/DnD%20files/Gallery/Web%20Full%20Tyr%20Construction%2070%20percent%20iso.jpg I am going to finish the "official" map first and put that out for everyone, then I will play in the sandbox and customize it for my personal use. I just purchased Lightup...its probably the only time I have every purchased software like this, but modeling is highly addictive and its consuming my life right now. |
| #4vizierJul 03, 2009 11:00:45 | As promised, here is the result of much work in Google's fantastic Sketchup program. These maps are worthy of spots here in the Finished Maps forum but this project is far from over. The Golden Tower is mostly finished and will be a separate entry. I have included several versions in an attempt to make this map usable for a number of different campaign settings. I have also included some artistic images of the city as well as a VERY beta nighttime shot. Im still very new to Lightup so a high quality night version of Tyr might be a ways off yet. I give you the City of Tyr, a city of violence and intrigue in the heart of the Athasian desert wastelands! http://www.wiijii.com/vizier50/DnD%20files/Gallery/City%20of%20Tyr%20Complete%20-%20White.jpg http://www.wiijii.com/vizier50/DnD%20files/Gallery/City%20of%20Tyr%20Complete%20-%20On%20Official%20Map%20WEB.jpg http://www.wiijii.com/vizier50/DnD%20files/Gallery/City%20of%20Tyr%20Complete%20-%20On%20Parchment.jpg http://www.wiijii.com/vizier50/DnD%20files/Gallery/City%20of%20Tyr%20Complete%20-%20Brown%20Watercolor.jpg |
| #5Silverblade_The_EnchanterJul 03, 2009 11:55:40 | Niiiice! ![]() Oh I use Rhino for most of my modelling work, and Vue for scene building, hard enough leanring one app at a time :p I got sucked into 3D art by way of Baldur's Gate, on the forums for it, pal posted pics form "Digital Blasphemy"...sucked me right in, hehe. I don't know much about sketchup, if the basic version has model export ability or not, but if you can export as .obj format, you could load such into an app like Bryce, and do art renders! |
| #6vizierJul 03, 2009 13:37:35 | Niiiice! Yeah you can export it to just about anything but I am barely able to manage sketchup let alone a whole new program to set up lighting and renderings etc. I did buy lightup though so once I figure it out more I will be able to do a lot better renders. |
| #7crabheartJul 03, 2010 12:47:54 | Unfortunatly i cannot see anything but the thumbnails i found from searching google. |
| #8xlorep_darkhelmJul 03, 2010 14:57:48 | I see only a 403 forbidden error on every link. |
