Creature Catalogue 4th ed:
mekillot entry calls the "drik" the "mekillot DIRK"
a dirk is a large Scottish fighting knife, not a 50 ton psycho-beast-of-man-eating-burden! Tongue out
Doh!!

It's spelled right. It's a mekillot dirk. Why do you think it refers to a drik? The drik is not included in the Creature Catalog, so are many other creatures.

I kind of get the feeling that the Mekillot Dirk is supposed to be a Drik.  If you look at the picture of Slither on the cover of Marauders of the Dune Sea it looks more like a Drik than a mekillot.  Of course it doesn't look exactly like a Drik either...but I think that's what they were going for.

Drik is functionally and basically exaclty the same as a mekillot
hence I'm reasonably sure the designers realized that a more logical, simple explanation is to say
drik = mekillots deliberately warped by defilers/psions (which happens to drik anyway)
Quote from the Creature Catalogue
"Defilers who serve  sorceror kings perform intricate rituals on the eggs to create dreadful beasts of war"

Yes, Marauders depicts a drik. Why do you think it instead refers to a mekillot dirk?

Because the description of Slither in the Dark Sun Campaign Setting under the Tablelands section explains that Slither is make up of several Mekillot Dirks with various bones fused together magically.

I still don't see it. Would it have been clearer at they named them Mekillot and War Mekillot?

It's a SPELLING mistake, guys
 jeesh! :p
you may not have noticed this, but the 4th ed books are full of bad spelling/syntax problems.

bet you their spell checker threw in "dirk" as a fix for "drik" and they didn't realize...

Not to be vulgar, but does anyone think the Mekillot's new image looks rather like a giant turd with eyes?

It's closer to the Brom original and the Revised Boxed sets look like some kind of ram/triceratops, so I like the "turd" better...

That's what the Elf said about the Dwarf's mother... Innocent
