If my not-so-local game store is still getting the books on time (or early, as they're listed as a premiere store) I might cancel my Ama-- who am I kidding, I couldn't afford to buy it in a brick-and-mortar store. Ugh.

#5 beej_silver Jul 29, 2010 19:10:41	You may be right, ascottbay. I live in the Philippines, which is one of the last to get D&D books as a rule. I checked my order and its ETA is now September 15-23, half a week later than Pavek. I guess it's okay. As long as I get the Campaign Setting as early as I expect it to, I can continue running my Dark Sun 4E game as I've been doing for two months now - with mostly custom monsters supplemented by MM guys.  I actually have a number of them already... I should probably post them here one of these days. >.>
#6 Nyarlathotep Jul 29, 2010 20:11:20	Just got a notice pushing it back to the 2nd myself.  I wasn't planning on starting DS until mid September anyway, but dang it, I want the books now now NOW, so waiting an additional few weeks isn't making me happy.
#7 ascottbay Jul 29, 2010 20:15:53	Just got a notice pushing it back to the 2nd myself. Only the 2nd? Lucky! And, this seems more and more like a logistics issue than an actual change of release date. Edit: An issue caused by unexpected pre-order demand, as Cyber-Dave suggests below.

#9 Duke5150 Jul 29, 2010 20:24:52	I'll be at barns & noble when they open on the day of release. I never go through amazon due to the issues my friend's suffered. (damaged books, wrong books, delays) Thankfully, I'm starting 4e darksun next week, bloodsand arena and then fury of the wastewalker with custom material tossed in to soak up time. By then, DS should be out and then it's ON!
#10 Cyrian Jul 31, 2010 21:22:43	Lots of times when I've preordered popular video games it's had the expected ship date a couple weeks after it came out but I still got it right after the release date.  So this doesn't necessarily mean you won't get your book when you're supposed to.
#11 FlashbackJon Aug 02, 2010 12:12:55	Ditto.  Amazon, in my pretty extensive experience, typically arrives on my door step the day before the estimated shipping date, even with super saver shipping.
#12 Alphastream Aug 02, 2010 16:24:00	I am a big fan of supporting local gaming stores whenever possible. I've been really pleased with the program to allow WPN stores to receive and sell WotC product before the online retailers. It is pretty awesome to get your stuff 1.5 weeks before Amazon would. Now, I fully understand money can be an issue. I've been able to negotiate a 20% discount on all pre-order and D&D Encounters night purchases for players and GMs in the DDE program. The two factors combined have led to a lot of purchases. I am also raffling off some additional stuff (extra copies of mods, etc.) to people that purchase things from the store on DDE nights. So far, this has worked well. I am curious whether Creature Catalog will be at Gen Con and whether it will reach the WPN stores on time. It would be another feather in the FLGS' cap if they had the book. (Just to be clear, no flame intended by anyone that prefers to support Amazon or the like for some reason. But, if you have WPN store in your area, you may want to negotiate a discount and get items both cheaper and earlier.)
