He asked me some pictures of the animals he could shapechange into but I can't find any information on the matter. Is it specified in any book which animals are elligible ? |
| #2DuskweaverSep 01, 2010 3:31:35 | It's entirely cosmetic, so he can choose any appearance he likes for his wildshape. However, the DSCS (page 196) gives a list of 'real world' animals that specifically don't exist on Athas, as well as a list of several that do. There are also all the creatures in the DSCC as well. The only real limitations are that wildshaping doesn't change his size (so he can change into a fire drake, but it will be a Medium fire drake even though fire drakes are usually Huge in size) and doesn't give him any special movement modes or other abilities (so he can change into an aarakocra, but he won't be able to fly). |
| #3FlashbackJonSep 01, 2010 9:33:32 | Strictly speaking, there is a "restriction" to natural and fey beasts, which means that technically neither the aarakocra nor the fire drake is eligible for wild shape, but I can't imagine any DM really considers that a hard and fast rule, especially since the rules even suggest a vague primal spirit as an option. |

Enforcing that rule strictly would probably also ban swarm druids altogether. And don't even think about taking the Whirling Samara PP. Anyway, there's nothing stopping a druid player from saying: "I wildshape into the form of a natural beast I've just invented that looks exactly like a Medium-sized fire drake." |
