Wizards of the Coast says they are doing...well, let me quote Lezlie Samuel's article: "What else? Soon, Dark Sun will come back to life in a fully animated series targeted at teens and adults." I said god-damn! LOL. We'll have to see if they really pull it off. Wow. I almost think this is a joke, but it isn't. We need to be on the ball with this one folks, and ensure they do a good job. It better be good, and not rated G. Ha. Wizards of the Coast has just earned more respect from this traditionalist. Kudos to them (if they pull it off).

#4 terminus_vortexa Jan 12, 2009 10:54:00	WOTC is almost certainly going to further develop DS. Why else re-release the novels directly after a complete product revision? I'm 90% certain we will get a 4e DS campaign setting, and the animated series as well, if the novels sell well. i'm guessing the campaign setting will be released in 2010 or so, depending on when the psionics rules are released.And when they do, I'll harvest it for fluff and add its knowledge to my 3.5e campaign. f@^% 4e!

#6 redking Jan 12, 2009 16:07:31	If we know anything about WOTC, they will develop the series (any series) and have the target market as children 8 or under. Consider the D&D movie. They are absolutely terrified of mature themes, and don't care that a lot (probably most) fans are adults.

Kids will be more attracted to the shiny, fairy tale, sword and sorcery, good versus evil worlds like the Forgotten Realms, leaving grittier, dirtier and more adult worlds like Athas and Eberron to adults. I love Athas because in the end, it's a world where the good guys didn't stand a chance from the beginning. The new heroes aren't as squeeky clean. As a matter of fact, the new good guys would probably look alot like the bad guys in other settings. Athas is a harsh world, it's heroes and villains alike are harsh people. Under the heat of the Athasian sun, both good and evil wither and burn. The bones of good and evil bleach under the sweltering heat and crumble to dust. Some might live, but many will die. And on the morrow, the sun will rise again to bake the life from this dying land.

I love Dark Sun, but in all my years of playing, I've only ever met one player that had the right mindset* to be able to play in this particular world. Athas isn't for the weak in body or will. Life is hard there and short as well. *I have a bit of reputation in the groups I play in of being a bit more duplicitous than most. It's gotten to be a bit of a running gag that it's not a campaign until I've ushered another player into the afterlife. In a Dark Sun campaign, I usually play an elf. The other player and I managed to see to it that at least one other player was making a new character every week.

"similar". ---- I´m afraid it´s more posible a cartoon tv serie of forgoten realms or dragonlance, but a videogame or comic of dark sun franchise wouldn´t be a bad idea.
