| #1tranceOct 16, 2010 6:48:38 | I guess this is a general question for all you Dark Sun fan outs there.. Has anyone heard if WoTC is going to produce more 4e Dark Sun material in the coming months or dare I say years? Or is the Guide and the Creature Catalog the only source they are going to produce? (Currently I am using material from 2e to fill in the gaps) Thanks in advance |

Most of the 4e campaign setting policy has been to just limit them to three books, although I think Forgotten Realms is getting an additional supplement in 2011 or something. If this is going to set a new precedent, I think Dark Sun would deserve it; from how popular it's been received and how much people talk about it and how they say it's great, I'm sure the ever-looking-to-expand-market-to-as-many-demographs-as-possible Wizards will want to cash in on it some more in the eventual future. Any time soon? Dark Sun is my all-time favorite published setting, but I hope it's not until 2013 at least. If 2011 is this FR deal and some Ravenloft thing, then I hope 2012 is a brand spankin' new setting. Until then, in any case, yeah use 2e books, Dragon and Dungeon magazine, and make stuff up! ![]() |

Neverwinter is gonna be relased as a "new campaign setting" (... despite being located in Forgotten Realms...). I guess they figure it's "separate" and thus not under the 3 book limit. If that's the case, I'd like to see "The Valley of Dust and Fire" as a "separate" CS, please. |

(Currently I am using material from 2e to fill in the gaps) Even if they don't, we've still got plenty of material to work with. I'd rather see additional sourcebooks to flesh out areas beyond the Tyr Region and overall cosmology, than what we got in the past which was a series of updates pushing the metaplot along. |

I have a feeling I will be playing Dark Sun for a long time. Running one game of it now and playing in another. The 2e books are primary material still, mostly for fluff and NPCs. |
| #6Bly2729Oct 16, 2010 14:26:12 | Yeah just three books and DDI material. I don't think its nearly enough material to keep the settings fresh though. |
| #7talidOct 16, 2010 14:42:36 | Fingers crossed they'll finally release something official about the Deadlands. Would be an awesome late-paragon/early-epic tier place to adventure in! |
| #8tranceOct 16, 2010 14:45:50 | Currently I have been reading over all of my 2e books, as well as visiting Athas.org... Hopefully they consider releasing more info.. or at least some kind of conversion.. I am surprised that they "reset" the timeline... The Dead lands would be fantastic to play through.. |
| #9naxelOct 16, 2010 19:14:54 | The 3 book deal is dependant on the player's guide and the campaign guide books being separate, which they didn't do for DS. The three book deal is blatantly not dependent on a separate player's and DM guide. Forgotten Realms functions that way and they're still getting Neverwinter, and Dark Sun will operate with three books because that's what Wizards said. Their third book is the Creature Catalogue. I haven't heard much about it, but I figure Neverwinter goes back to 3e (and past?) version of Forgotten Realms, rather than some half-assed post-apocalypse world which many people were upset about. Like I said, Wizards wants to capitalize as much as they can. People are content with Eberron, very upset with FR so they make Neverwinter, and the way I see it Dark Sun was their biggest seller yet so they'll make something for it in the future |
| #10slashdevnullOct 17, 2010 10:01:47 | I hope we get more modules. Whether they are in DDI or printed does not matter, just as long as they are of decent quality (yeah, I'm lookin' at you, Mauraders!). |
| #11WarunsunOct 17, 2010 15:40:05 | ... but I figure Neverwinter goes back to 3e (and past?) version of Forgotten Realms, rather than some half-assed post-apocalypse world which many people were upset about... Nope. The Neverwinter book is a tie-in product written soley to advertise/advance the new upcoming Neverwinter online computer game. It is set in the current realms era. The book will be released around the time that the online game is scheduled to be ready. You can read about the game here: www.playneverwinter.com/ It is NOT being done by the people that previously developed Neverwinter Nights. --- I would be surpised if we get any future Dark Sun official books. They certainly don't seem concerned about the launch of Dark Sun and the problems with the Character Builder. Hopefully, we will get more Dragon and Dungeon articles. Seems like a lot of stuff is missing and it could have been on purpose to pad future magazine issues. -Warunsun. |
