An adventure for characters of 4th level in the Dark Sun world.  In my opinion it makes a good starting adventure.  Let me know what you think.

The purpose of the Tempest reminds me of the Watroach Beetles from Dragon 185, and the undead war machine that was made from it.  I like that you made an adventure based on that.   A question, how does the Tempest run down cavalry regiments?  I would think that it is fairly pondorous given it's size.   Also, how do they kill the Giant Rhinocerous beetle without more powerful psions n arcane users to not just bash the heck of it, thus ruining it as a War Beetle.
Granted, I have not looked over your entire adventure yet, but I look forward to doing so!  I like what I have read so far.

This is AWESOME!!
I may try to run this.  My characters are already off to a running start, but getting heavily involved with the Veilled Alliance in a "defiler hunters" sort of angle.  I love the 'selling yourself into slavery as undercover agents' hook.  It's extreme and desperate and just the kind of thing my players would go for. Thanks so much.

Very well done.  I am going to definitely use this in my campaign.

I'll have to check out that Dragon, thanks.  The war beetle hunting happens when the players are locked up, so it doesn't matter too much, but in my mind they punch holes in it with the ballista and then patch up the damage with construction materials and magic.  The living beetles aren't that though.

Running down cavalry is tough for the Tempest, but doable.  It has a movement of 10 (due to magical boons on the gear system) and can travel 24 hours a days.  If this seems unfeasable for your game, just make sure it is fast enough to run down escaped slaves in the salt flats as that is the only important part to the adventure.

The cutting off the psion head to fuel/make the Undead War Beetle effective is kinda stolen from a printed Cthulhu adventure.  I'm not going to say which so as not to spoil it for those lucky enough to play it in a group.

One of your monster stat blocks is messed up. The trapjaw stat block on page 24 is covered by the stat block of the tempest crew. Other than that, it looks pretty neat so far.

Out of curiosity, do any of the other city states use war gally's like that? For example, would it be possible for me to adapt this adventure to have the gally be a Urikite gally and stay true to Dark Sun fluff?

One of the problems with other City States building such a war machine is the resources. What would Urik use to build such a thing? Stone would be too ponderous. Bones and hide? Maybe.

Only Nibenay and Gulg have the resources to do it. Plentiful wood. I don't see Gulg being a city that would build such a thing, so it looks like Nibenay is it.

Although, Balic does have a tradition of making Silt Sea vessels.

This is a totally cool adventure, by the way. Your players must have been blown away by your giant model Tempest.

In 2e and 3e, any city-state had the potential to make hand-powered and wind-powered land-based war vehicles, including undead beetles, but not all included these engines of war as part of their army's battlefield tactics. A mekillot with a war howdah is a dangerous affair, and they are easier to obtain and less costly to setup than handcrafted vehicles and animated beetles.

Great stuff. I really like the creations you have on your site. For the monsters, would you be able to provide either images or (better yet) Monster Builder format files?

I'm willing to believe Urik could have captured or traded for one of these in the past, even if they can't make one themselves.  Re-setting the adventure in Balic would be the easiest because you just reskin the ship as a Silt vessel that still needs slave labor for locomotion.

@Cyber-Dave: Good catch.  I'll fix that when I get the chance.

@Alphastream1: Most of the monsters are just level adjustments of existing MM3 and DSCC monsters.  I'll look into posting the stats.

In my game, the adventurers chose to negotiate with the Defiler in the end rather than fight him.  If anyone else runs the adventure I'd love to hear how their run through turns out and whether or not the last combat encounter is fun.

Understood (though don't cut yourself short... having a non-solo Tembo, for example, is very cool). It is a matter of organization for me. If I have a MB file I can put it into my MB and then see it when I search for it. If I have it as an image I can place it in my monster folder. All about being an organized dork for me!

Awesome module.  I may attempt to run it, though possibly move the location from Nibenay to the outskirts of Urik.  (My campaign is centered in Raam..)
