I am hosting a chat based environment (like mIRC, chatrooms, etc) focusing on the Dark Sun campaign.  If you have ever experienced a MUD (think: text based version of Everquest) then this is similar, but different in the fact that there are no monsters to run around and idly kill.

I've recently set up a group page: community.wizards.com/darksunmush talking about how one can connect and check out the gaming environment.

The game is set up much like a tabletop setting, where multiple people gather to play, but available for those who wish to connect and roleplay even when not specifically tying themselves into an adventure/encounter/what have you.

Right now, we are looking for:

People who are willing to test out the character creation section to ensure that it won't break.
People who would like to DM but don't have a local group to do so.
People who would like to roleplay/game in the Dark Sun setting but don't have a local group.
People who would like to both DM AND play in the Dark Sun setting.
And of course really anyone who wants to put forth the time and effort to have fun in the Dark Sun setting in general.

Update:

As I stated earlier, character creation is completed.  Feel free to drop on in and give it a whirl.  Also, we're going to go ahead and open for roleplaying but won't be up for running encounters for another week or two at the least.

Also, we're currently working on putting up a flash client on the link above so people don't even have to download anything or be confused by trying to connect to the campaign.  Especially since that is generally a limiting factor when figuring out how to connect to a MUSH/MUD/Telnet hosted environment.

Unofficially as of today, Dark Sun MUSH is open for roleplaying and adventuring.  Starting January 18th will be the official opening of the campaign.  Potential players are more than welcome to connect to the game, create a character and begin taking part in the adventure!

If potential players are wary of downloading the MUSHclient in my previous blog post, try clicking on your window button, if you have Vista or Windows 7, type in the search column: Run.  In the Run column type in telnet darksunmush.dune.net 6250.

For those running older versions of Windows, simply click on run and do the same:  type in telnet darksunmush.dune.net 6250.

Once the game opens up type in connect guest guest to check out the game!

A few helpful commands to type once you're in the game are (without the quotes):

'news' <--- For our information on policies, roleplaying, and characters

'+staff' and '+staff/all' <--- for a list of the current people maintaining the game

'who' <--- To see who is all online (not many at the moment, but the game is growing!)

'+help' and 'help' <--- To see or +help files.

The text based gaming community might take a little bit to get used to but trust me, it will be worth your time.
