A premier store gets the WotC products earlier than the release date. I'm not sure how much sooner though.

So, yeah, I know it's released the 17th. But my question was, when do premier stores get the DS books?

I've heard it's ten days early. A thread about one of the books that came out this month said that a premiere store had a store copy out even earlier than that, but wasn't going to sell them for a few more days (at which point it would have been 10 days early compared to non-premiere stores).

More importantly, how does one locate a premiere store? Found it at locator.wizards.com with premiere stores getting a special map pin color. Also found out that the store I do go to when I go to stores is a premiere store; hot damn! That might be worth a few hours of traffic and higher prices.

The premiere store agreement form specifically prohibits sales before the "official published on-sale date" - so maybe the stores get additional privileges some time after approval, or with regards to specific releases. If I didn't hate phones so much I'd call the Dice Dojo and ask about the Dark Sun release. Unfortunately it's so not-local that going there just to ask is extremely inconvenient.

My FLGS story had them yesterday, so I've had them for 24 hours now.  Good stuff!

The whole idea of 'Premier Stores' just irk me. Although not as much as some Scandinavian stores releasing their stocks whenever the feel like it. Oops, it was an accident some will cry. We though X was a different date.

Gimme a break.

Anyone know of any premier stores in the LA area that have it/are expected to have it?  I don't live down there but I will be there this weekend.  If I could grab an early copy my gaming group would hail me as a hero.Cool

Huzzah!  My FLGS is a premier store!  I wonder if they'll be doing early release...

locator.wizards.com will let you know more.  The closest (as far as I know, I don't know where exactly you'll be, so you may want to check some more) appears to be:

All Star Baseball Card Store

My FLGS is a premier store and confirmed that they'll be selling DS stuff this saturday even though they already received the shipment. I don't know if it's a choice or a special rule for premier stores to wait for 10 days before and not sooner.

I can't imagine what would irk someone about Premier Stores. It irks you that some stores, who are good partners to WotC, get rewarded by selling their books early? Maybe you should shop at your FLGS instead of on Amazon.

This is pretty much what I was going to say. I think that it's fantastic that stores that specifically support, promote, and cater to D&D actually get some competitive reward for doing so.

While I absolutely love that companies support their brick 'n' mortar, I can wait for the discount.

My closest Premier store (where I bought the PH3) lost their Premier status because they don't host instore games (they're a book store, not a game store).  Which really sucks because they offer 20% discount on books.

So I have to drive farther tomorrow (Friday 8/6) to get the books...but hey, they'll have them way early! ANd I'm happy to support brick n mortar stores

~IT'S RAINING BOOOOKS, HALELUJAH!~

I will have mine TUESDAY, baby!

My partner and I live in Mississippi and are taking a trip to Tucson, AZ because I've never seen the desert before.  And thanks to this thread, I got the idea to hunt up a premier bookstore out there, since we don't have one in Hattiesburg.  And guess what?

I got my Campaign Guide ordered and paid fuh.  All's I gotta do is pick it up when I get there.

Think about it - getting my hands on the brand new Dark Sun I've been waiting for for TWENTY years on my VERY FIRST TRIP TO THE DESERT!

I'm in Heaven, and I wanna spread the LURVE!!!

There's not enough monsters, IMO, but that's no big deal. There'll be lots of fan conversions.

I also picked up my books yesterday, and they look great. Do note that the back of the Creature Catalog has a nice section on adapting existing monsters to make them more "Athas-ish."

The sorcerer kings and queens are in the Creature Catalog. Each has a two-page spread, complete with a full stat block, fluff, and (sometimes) a champion or two.

I was really hoping to pick up the books this week.  But, from what I can tell, they are being shipped this week and will not arrive at my FLGS until next week.

I have to admit that I am torn on the discount versus getting them early.  I would have picked them up no problem this week and loved having them two weeks early.  But I'm not sure it has the same value next week.

I usually buy my books via Amazon (for the steep discount), but since our gaming group meets weekly in the FLGS and I usually don't buy anything from them, I felt guilty and ordered the books through the store. They must be a premiere store, as they got their Dark Sun materials in yesterday.

Well, according to the WotC map, it would appear my FLGS isn't a premiere store but I thought they were.  Most of the time, I can wait as none of the books have been relevant to the current campaign.  However, when they announced Dark Sun and when I found some 4E conversions, I started a Dark Sun campaign.  So, I am excited for these books as they are obviously very relevant to the campaign!

Does anyone know if they do special shipments for these?  I was there this week for DND Encounters and they didn't have them yet.  Is it possible they might get them today or tomorrow?  Or did they miss them this week and won't have them until next?

I would love to have them now and am quite jealous with the ones who have received them!  *sigh*

You're welcome ;)

I was torn between getting them at amazon for 30% off or my premier game store early but once I got an email from amazon that the creature catalog was delayed I cancelled my order.

And... just got a call from my FLGS and the books are in! I'll pick 'em up after work and I'll have all weekend to enjoy them. Awesome!

I'll admit, I've NEVER played Dark Sun before. That's about to change! Just got the CS book on my way home and skimmed it. Love it so far.

I also flipped thru the Creature Catalog at the FLGS and I gotta say, those sorcerer-kings and queens sure are not what I expected. For one, I thought they were all dragon-like beings. And secondly, Lalali-Puy, sorcerer-queen (and "goddess") of the forest city Gulg, sounds a lot like Jolrael, the Empress of Beasts from MtG.

mmmm psionics

Congrats to everybody who got the books early.  I have no premier store by me, and I would be unable to pick up the books until about two weeks after the release, so I ordered mine.  I'm stoked to start a Dark Sun campaign.

Do I get Iron Gamer street cred for biking almost 8 miles round trip with a massive hangover just to pick them up at my FLGS?

A buddy of mine went up to our closest premier store 75 mi. away and bought himself a set of DS books and another set for me as well.  What a pal!  Been looking through the books, and I am quite pleased with the material.  We may wait to start the campaign until CB and MB are updated, but nonetheless I am quite excited to work on an initial adventure.

We are thinking about recommending that players make at least two characters, neither of which should they become too attached.  The world of Athas shows no mercy!  Spare characters will be necessary.

Thinking about starting a campaign in Balic....
