#1 dulsi Sep 24, 2010 22:26:29	On the piazza I've setup a thread with suggestions for running the various campaign settings with only PHB1, DMG1, and MM1.  Unfortunately I don't have the Dark Sun book.  dfryer36 posted the number of pages references material beyond PHB1, DMG1, and MM1.  To better suggest how to run it I was wondering if someone could answer some questions. For suggestions on using just the PHB1, DMG1, and MM1, I thinking of suggesting the Orc racial writeup in the MM1 as a substitute for the Goliath. You would need to change Gigantic Action but otherwise the Half-Giant Thug is usable. What are the Goliath feats like? Do they reference any Goliath features or class features outside of the PHB1? I'm unsure if anything should be suggested for the Wild Battlemind or Animist Shaman. I wonder if Wild Battlemind could be bolted onto the Fighter or Paladin. Perhaps the same with the Animist Shaman to the Cleric. What are the prerequisites for the Mind Lord of the Order and Pyreen? Do they have an features/powers that don't work without some class/racial feature outside of the PHB1?
#2 awaken_D_M_golem Sep 26, 2010 13:52:21	Anything is re-flavor-able. That's all you really have to do. Sticking with the flavor of Dark Sun means Divine classes, AREN'T. Instead they are "something" else. DS has a Promidial directed thingy. That'll work. 3e Psi reflavored any number of things, but required lots of wading through the haters. Late 3.5e included Ardent philosophies, functioning similar to divine Domains. But there were Cleric of Philosophies going back to that PHB. Poly-morph = Meta-morph ... you'd think this wasn't that hard. Poly = Meta , is Latin / Greek same word. Egad, but is was that hard. Soo ... treat it like a setting. Substitute some words so the players don't know.

Yes but what I'm trying to do is collect a concrete set of suggestions for running Dark Sun with just PHB1, DMG1, and MM1.  Specifically allowing the players to use as much of the crunch in the Dark Sun book without having to buy PHB2, PHB3, or other books.  Which is why I specifically asked what are the Goliath feat like so I can determine if they can be easily used with the Orc racial stats.  If you have any concrete suggestions they would be welcome. I actually have wondered if there should be a set of suggestions for running the settings with just Essentials but I'm not planning on buying Essentials and is very different.
