| #1RalofTyrJun 04, 2009 23:24:00 | Last October I went to Death Valley. Here are some pics that mimic Dark Sun topography. Badlands (Artist's Canyon) ![]() Salt Flats(Devil's Golf Course). Note the snow on the mountains. The next pic was taken up there. ![]() The Forest Ridge (Telescope Peak) ![]() Verdant Oasis (Salt Creek) There are actually fish in that creek. ![]() Sand Wastes: Rain is actually trapped deep within the dunes and plants with very, very long roots tap it. ![]() Stony Barrens/Scrub Plains (Ubehebe Valley) ![]() |

| #4TectuktitlayJun 07, 2009 14:15:29 | You'll have to agree that the Devil's Golf Course looks more Dark Sun than the Bonneville flats. Nah. There is most assuredly something very "Dark Sun" about a stark, flat, utterly desolate stretch of land with nothing as far as the eyes can see, save mountains an indeterminable distance away. Just as a salty/rocky badlands is quite apropos. Change the color of the sky to olive green, and add a faint reddish tint to the land itself, and both would fit in beautifully. |

| #6brun01Jun 09, 2009 9:27:46 | Add two moons and make the sky olive and this is Athas in my head. Great pics! |
| #7phoenix_mJun 09, 2009 17:30:22 | Tweeking the hue a little:![]() |
| #8lastardJun 11, 2009 6:43:37 | Here a few more spooky images - not photoshopped. the blue is real! too much defiling going on... ;) ah, and you might mentally replace the ducks in one of the pictures with drik!![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Lastard ![]() |
| #9lastardJun 11, 2009 7:02:02 | Here are a few more... Do you think this plant is psychic?![]() Obviously something with large spiny tentacles is hiding under this one... ![]() The Jagged Cliffs Area... ![]() Signs of water from ages ago... ![]() ![]() More defiled plants and soil... ![]() ![]() Lastard ![]() |
| #10TectuktitlayJun 11, 2009 15:23:18 | Tweeking the hue a little: Get that sky just a bit more yellow, and you'll be golden. Oh, and all these pics are lovely, folks. :D |
| #11phoenix_mJun 11, 2009 19:27:59 | @Lasard: I love some of those images, but you should warn folks about that non-existant metal fence running through the last one. As for those creatures they aren't ducks, there CR:5 flying hydro-leaches, they're the reason people of the Tablelands yell "Duck!" ![]() @Tet... Tek... sorcerer King dude with really hard to pronounce name... Oh yeah Tectuktitlay (:D ): Yellow?, and here I thought the ground was looking too purple. |
| #12delerakJun 11, 2009 22:42:58 | These are awesome. |
| #13lastardJun 12, 2009 4:53:37 | @ Phoenix_M: What is metal? ;) |
| #14TectuktitlayJun 12, 2009 9:08:34 | @Tet... Tek... sorcerer King dude with really hard to pronounce name... Oh yeah Tectuktitlay (:D ): Yellow?, and here I thought the ground was looking too purple. Hehe. Yeah, the ground is slightly magenta/purple. Just a shade. However, olive really is a yellow-green. Purple and a yellow-ish color complement one another. However, you might very well want to make the ground more reddish/orangish, because an olive sky will make the ground appear even more purple than it already does. ;) Oh, and mispronounce my name again, mortal, and I will have my priests drink your blood! |
| #15phoenix_mJun 12, 2009 17:39:22 | Oh, and mispronounce my name again, mortal, and I will have my priests drink your blood! But we Kreen have Ichor, your so called priests would never survive such a process. And before you say it, death by the hands of am immortal - is there a worthier way to die while fighting. I really need to get back on topic don't I... :D |
