Apr 16, 2013 3:53:58 has anyone used devas in their dark sun game? i know they are a specifically barred natural race, but if one were to penetrate the grey, would the incarnation ability be blocked by it? would the soul of the deva move into the grey like the rest, or would it be "sucked" back to the astral plane?

Apr 16, 2013 8:23:36 We've had a Deva in one of our Dark Sun games before. We wrote it off as a human who uses Psionics to "infect" another human with his consciousness and memories upon his death, being reborn as the child of that human. It was neat all in all.

Apr 16, 2013 13:51:02 While I'm a bit of a Dark Sun purist, I do believe there have been some form of celestial creature in Dark Sun. I mean, in the 4eDS one-shot I did, I banned anything non-2e setting and rebuilt a lot of mechanics (especially defiling).

Back on topic, Devas would be an interesting concept to DS. The thing is they're reincarnating celestials, so they would likely be aware of the Green Age. Plus, it'd be unlikely they'd be allies with the Sorcerer Kings, as celestials embody life energy and holy potential (despite there being no gods on Athas). Plus, their lost connections with planes longsince locked off would add some interesting hooks. Perhaps they connect and reincarnate through the grey now and use their power to break free (somehow), thus assuming their current form?

Apr 21, 2013 18:22:36 The 4e version implies there were gods at one time. 4e Deva souls are more bound to the world than the heavens. Perhaps the Deva are the angels who fled the destruction by becoming bound to the planet (the normal 4e lore has them as angels that fell in love with the mortal world and made a pact with the primal spirits). Of course, the general poor state of the planet has caused many of them to die off, but a rare few remain.

They'd definitely make natural enemies to the sorceror kings and defilers.

May 04, 2013 18:52:39 The grey is a nice way of torturing them. Since souls stuck in the grey slowly lose their sense of self worth, if say a Deva was trapped in the Grey and fell out, they might have no sense of self or location.

Nice plot hook though.
