#1 oxfordnd Oct 20, 2010 14:32:31	I realise that Shardminds do not eat,drink breath etc, or make endurance checks for starvation/thirst but do they suffer from sun sickness and need to use survival days?
#2 Duskweaver Oct 20, 2010 14:52:08	By default, shardminds don't exist on Athas. But, if you do include them, they should be affected by sun sickness just like everyone else. It's a supernatural effect caused by a magically warped sun. It's not just normal dehydration and sunstroke. That's why survival days consist of more than just water.

If you do run them, not needing to eat or drink is a huge advantage in itself in a barren world where basic survival is a factor.  Making them immune to Sun Sickness on top of that would ruin all the fun for the DM.
#5 tentagil Oct 20, 2010 21:18:01	To make up for the lack of a need to eat and drink you might add in some form of mechanic that takes advantage of thier psionic nature.  They are composed of cyrstal kept together through psionic energy, you could easily say that the abundance of psionic energy on Athas effects them in a way similiar to how sun sickness effects everyone else.
#6 angelus_obscura Oct 20, 2010 22:16:32	Extreme heat can affect crystalline structures just as badly as softer, fleshier ones. It's called thermal shocks. To say shardminds (and other living constructs) are immune to extreme heat is utter nonsense. A person (or thing) can absorb only so much heat until it melts and/or shatters. Hell, even the extreme, and drastic drop in temperature in Athas can damage shardminds also. Have you seen what happens to glass when heated and then spontaneously cooled?
