If you are a regular D&D dungeon master or player, DDI is totally worth it. If you are still against it, just get it for a month, download the Dark Sun material, and quit. For the tools, character builder, Vault of Darom Madar, and the map, and more Dark Sun goodies, it's totally worth a one-time fee of ten-twelve bucks or whatever.

A printed off a PDF map isn't as nice as an official map. I still have both boxed set maps+ the cloth map from the 90's that I love.

Depends on the quality of your printer. Personally I'm gonna print this baby on 32x55cm white cloth, and it's gonna look awesome Cool .

What does it mean when it says I don't have to right entitlement to download the map? It said something about upgrading my subscription.

The system hiccups occasionally. Try signing out and back in again.

Ah, I see.... the map is out for an extra...
Even if I bought the book already, so I'll wait for Google Image myself.

If you're considering DDI to be a surcharge for a Dark Sun map, don't.

If you subbed today and canceled next month, at the VERY LEAST you're getting this map, all the art and maps from the books in digital format, a complete adventure on-par with (or better than) Marauders of the Dune Sea, a handful of articles with additional content (including an exclusive theme, SK-specific Warlock feat support, and an adventure locale with items/boons), and a fully functional character builder containing all the current Dark Sun content.

And that's just one month of Dark Sun-specific content.

I see only the numbers (not the map) and my reader says its up to date.

The download was a little glitchy for me; took three attempts, first it was just white, then I got the numbers, and on the third attempt it loaded correctly for me. Maybe give it another shot - this has been one of the glitchiest DDI downloads I've seen to date...

Layered PDFs are notoriously finicky.  I really can't blame them.

It could also be related to web browser, I use Chrome mostly and it often has difficulty integrating with Adobe Reader... I think I've had similar problems with Firefox; sometimes I have to use IE if I want to access .pdfs (especial right after adobe has released an update).

I was looking forward to the eye on Dark Sun article or whatever this month and this is what I get? I love DDI and have my subscription renewed every three months but this was a waste. I could've figured distances out by looking at the map I boughtin the CS

Ok first you aren't paying for the map, if you already have the books you have the maps, all you get here is distances between locations.

As far as the download, I get it blank with the bubbles, all I did was turn off the layers the map showed up then saved it and now it works fine in reader.

That worked for me, thanks.

And yeah it pretty nice. My sister's DSCG had the map stolen from it so I can have her use this one instead.

Eye on Dark Sun this month was Broken Builders.  This is just a bonus.  There's also the upcoming Hunters in the Wasteland article and Winning Races: Muls.

I'd already done some of the distances for the campaign I'm building, but this is a nice at a glance reference.  So far pretty happy with all the Dark Sun content they've been giving out.  Really hoping for at least one more adventure on par with the Vault.  Honsetly they should have released that as the retal product over the Marauders.  Its a far better put together package IMHO.

This map is great, just the sort of useful additions I want to see out of DDI.  Immediately useful for my game as we prepare for some long-distance travel.

Between this, Vault, the mul, templar and slave theme articles, it has been a real Dark Sun windfall.  Good stuff.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up

I guess in that case I retract my previous statement and say that while this wasn't a necessary article since you could just calculate distances yourself with the DSCS map, it does make it easier and more convenient so...cool haha

I had exactly the same experience; and I agree, one of the glitchiest DL I've experienced so far.

Just to note:  I'm using Google Chrome and the latest Acrobat Reader update (9.3?).  One particular glitch I've noticed is that Chrome freezes if I try to open a DDI pdf in-browser; I have to save the file to my hard-drive then open.

A mini  rant
I'll be letting my DDI sub expire early next year; in major part due to these kinda glitches; they're more of a nuisance than I care for.  After two years plus, I feel that the DDI service should run much more smoothly.

DDI runs smoothly for thousands of worldwide users. The problem is on your side. Try a different browser, perhaps with specific Adobe in-browser add-ons. I use Chrome, Firefox, and Explorer.

Adobe Acrobat and Chrome are easy and quick to deinstall and reinstall. Might help you, as I have the same as you and no problems. I also happen to have the complete Adobe Acrobat, not the free Reader version.

I haven't pulled out my old maps but it looks like they moved Celik.  I thought it used to be way over by the Ringing Mountains and much further south.  Can anyone confirm?

Seconding all this, because it's also true for me.  Bolding the important part though.

Over on the DDI forum, Steve Winter pointed out some of the challenges of viewing PDFs in a browser using Adobe and suggested saving the link to your desktop.  Yesterday, I couldn't get the file to display correctly at work using Windows XP/IE8 or at home using Windows Vista/Firefox until I did this.  Works fine now that the file is on my computer.

I dunno.  The glitches aren't unique to me; I've read of others who have experienced almost identical glitches.

In any case, DDI isn't what I want in quality of service and the current articles aren't my thing.  There is a problem no doubt but who to blame?  At this point, who cares? I'm moving on ;), first chance I get (which is next year when my sub is up).
