Hi!

Just found this article and as i'm going to use some hireling/henchmen in my Dark sun campaign, it will be quite helpful!

Did anyone used these rules, specifically to Dark Sun hireling/henchmen, that wants to share them?

Thanks

Hi!

Does anyone has suggetions for traits to use with these rules that have an "Athasian feel" ?

Thanks

On Athas I like the idea of these as being more "vulnerable allies" than an asset. I would likely use them as a story component - similar to the runt giant in the Prism Pentad that aids Agis of Asticles. You can have many fun encounters where the PCs have reason to protect the ally, especially if that ally is critical for some task (a halfling guide in the Forest Ridge).

To make them I use the Monster Builder (DDI subscription needed). You can easily take a monster and shape it to be a companion using those rules.

Feats get tricky. The problem is only if your players are optimizers and could use them to trigger other powers/feats (Agile Opportunist being an example). If that's not an issue then you could consider a Leadership feat that perhaps provides a benefit to the companion under certain conditions.

Hi Alpha!

I do not have, currently, a DDI subscription, so that's not an option for me.

I want to create a few henchmen/hireling and just need some ideas for traits with an "Athasian feel" that someone could have already made and was willing to share...

Do you know where i can find an online free tool that creates a "template" like teh 4th monsters?

Thanks

All of the tools out there require a DDI subscription to "power" them.

And, I couldn't mention it until now, but the Ecology of the Vegepygmy article on DDI that I wrote provides a leader companion and is (hopefully) another example of how to build interesting ones for your party. You could consider signing up for DDI for a month just to take a look, try out the the tools, and then continue your subscription if you find it useful.

If you don't, the simplest is to take the DMG2 information and then add 1-2 powers that you like from a monster, keeping them reasonable in nature. Usually this works pretty well. You could also look at some of the foes that are human (such as those in the DSCC) and alter them to work as a companion.

Hi Goldrak,

I'm using  Henchem in my campaign : you can find it's description & characteristic at my Obsidian Portal page : Dark Sun - La Décade des Héros.

It's in french, but you can find a translate icon at the top left. You have to click the "characters button" to find them, their names are : Igor Nichon, Jammer, Amon-tok, and Ofeen Nole.

power2ool.com/
This tool does not require a DDI account, but since you don't have one you'll have to make everything from scratch. The benefit is power2ool properly formats everything, and makes them look pretty.
