On the subject of dragons there has been a lot of talk, but I do not think the metamorphosis of dragons is the same in every case.

The prism pentad books show us clearly that different sorcerer kings were having different changes to their physical forms. Tectucktitlay was avian (or was that the king of Balic?). Hamanu like a lion. Nibenay taking after Borys draconic form. I do not remember where I read it but each dragon is different, apparently.

I take this to mean that mechanically (stats) each dragon is the same, but their physical forms will be different, according to the imagination of the transforming dragon. Thus "dragon" advanced beings are advanced beings called "dragons" because the primary example of an advanced being on Athas happens to be Borys.

I think that individual, unique advanced beings are appropriate for the Dark Sun campaign, and it matches what we have seen in the novels. Avangions are probably the same. Not all Avangions would follow the type of Avangion of Korgunaard or the Great One.

By the way, this thread

deserves another look but is in the wrong forum.

Hamanu was leonine. Yet, it's not the look of his metamorphosis, it's a glamour. Others' looks were most likely glamours as well. There are no certitudes on this matter.

One of the things to look at when doing the metamorphisis is that athas.org has released the seed by the same name for epic spells, along with a description of what each does. So, in this regard, Legends of Athas gives you the default Dragon Metamorphisis sequence of epic spells, but then also allows for you to tweek the process and develop things in different ways. These additions and tweeks will increase the Spell DC, but some of them are very very worth it.

Dragons with auras, horns and gore attacks.

Really, whatever you want.
