| #1AlphastreamNov 14, 2009 1:18:37 | I've been dying since the news was given to D&DXP judges, but it is now official and out of the bag: Rich Baker shares that D&D XP will feature Dark Sun! In January! I'll be there. Anyone else? Here is the link to D&D XP. Judges can sign up, with player registration to follow (events are still being finalized). The convention is Jan 28-31st and should be a really special show. (As an author for a Living Forgotten Realms adventure, I know a few things I can't talk about... it will be a fun show). Here is what he said: "First of all, a little news: I'll be attending D&D XP in Fort Wayne, Indiana, at the end of January. For all of you Dark Sun fans out there, we've got a lot of great Dark Sun teasers and tidbits we're going to be unveiling at the show, including looks at some topics I've been tapdancing around so far (for example, templars, defiling, new character races, and more). The show runs from January 28th though the 31st. If you're anywhere near Fort Wayne, stop by and say hi!" He also discusses stat build points (not any higher) and again suggests that DS is built so that, like Eberron and FR, rules can be ported easily to other settings. "Speaking of Dark Sun... I received an email from a fan the other day who asked me whether Dark Sun characters would get to use a different system for generating ability scores, so that they'd have higher stats to play with. I thought that was an interesting question, so I figured I'd say something about it here: No, we're not going that way. To my mind, the old super-high stats in Dark Sun were an artifact of the 2nd Edition ability score tables, which generally offered no benefit until your score topped 15 or better. In order to collect your +2's and +3's you had to generate really high scores. With ability mods starting at +1 for a 12 in the current edition, you don't need super-good scores like you used to. Let me put it another way: 12 is the new 15, and it's been that way for almost ten years now. (There's another issue with starting off Dark Sun characters at better-than-normal stats; it hurts the exportability of Dark Sun characters to core games and the importability of core monsters to Dark Sun games if characters are seriously better in Dark Sun. We want DMs to be able to use core material with as little modification as possible in their Dark Sun games, if that's what they want to do. We do have ways that Dark Sun characters are going to be better, but it's not in their stat array or basic offensive and defensive numbers. Come to D&D XP if you want to see what we're up to!)" |
| #2PennarinNov 14, 2009 3:22:04 | Who's going there? I could schedule a vacation week for those days, take a plane, go to Indi, perhaps meet back Nathan (NytCrawlr). Will there be Dark Sun games played there? Will they provide early releases of DS material to attendees? Anyone else from Indi? I'm handicaped (close enough), so would be taking both a close hotel room for two if possible and rent a car (or use taxis) to ease my back pains. Using transport to go to all the local used book stores in search of rare science fiction prints. |
| #3AlphastreamNov 20, 2009 11:48:34 | The schedule has been announced publicly and pre-reg is this Sunday the 22nd! There will be a Dark Sun adventure at D&D XP, using pre-gens! SWEET! It runs in every slot of the convention. "Come join us for the first sneak peek at the next campaign setting for 4th edition. This full adventure will preview new material from the campaign setting and comes with characters already provided. More information on this in the near future." Judges have been allowed to pre-reg early, so I am in slot 10, should anyone else be able to make it. |
| #4PennarinNov 20, 2009 12:20:05 | Bunch of questions: |
| #5AlphastreamNov 20, 2009 12:29:16 | Link to D&D XP is in one of my older posts. It is a standard slot (as you will see on Sunday), so I expect it runs for 4 hours. I will be there all con long, judging in most slots (I wrote the paragon 14-17 core special, so I am judging that a bunch). |
| #6PennarinNov 20, 2009 16:43:31 | Sorry for not noticing, or rather remembering, or just downright figuring you did write all of that stuff in your post. I am tired. More so than I thought I was. Fridays. |
