In anticipation of the new setting I'd like to start planning my DS campaign. I'm wondering if there are any adventures in Dungeon that would be easily used in Dark Sun?

No one's going to use any Dungeon adventures for their  DS game?

I doubt I will. I'll most likely build my own adventures and possibly convert 2e modules to 4e. When dungeon releases a DS adventure, I might run it, or pick it clean for my own game.

Although there may be a few people that do, I really doubt anyone will use Dungeon adventures that are not made for Dark Sun in their Dark Sun campaigns.

I think most DM's (myself included) will either create their own campaigns, adapt old DS adventures to 4e, or use new material/adventures that will come out.

The problem with the Dungeon adventures to date is that the fluff mainly follows the core world themes: The adventure storylines are very high fantasy; use races and monsters that don't fit Dark Sun (happy Halflings Elves and Gnomes, Dragons and Kobolds); heavily involves dieties and the divine power source; the adventure hooks are general difficult to cross over.

Removing these elements would leave gigantic holes in the adventure storylines and hooks.

The only reason to use Dungeon Adventures is to get some sample encounters (crunchy bits). Re-name the encounter creatures and fluff to make them Dark Sun relevant.

...I've tried some of the earlier stuff and it's almost as bad as writing your own storyline. One or two of the psionic-related adventures might be more suitable, if you'd like to have a go.

I can't think of any right off hand that would be usable without, to paraphrase the previous poster, virtually having to re-write the whole thing.  However, I would be terribly surprised if an adventure or two specifically for Dark Sun didn't come out after the setting is officially released.

There have been lots of FR and Eberron adventures to date, and those will continue to be produced for years to come...so will Dark Sun adventures.

It sounds like I'd be better off to wait and see what the DS adventure situation is in Dungeon after the setting is released. Thanks all!

I have not read it, but I wonder if "Oasis of the Golden Peacock" (Dungeon 169) could be coverted to DS with minimal effort.

First, if you don't mind converting adventures you might look for old copies of Dungeon issues 35, 44, 56 and 110.  They all contain "official" DS adventures, the first three using 2nd edition and the last adventure using 3.5rd edition.

Second, you might want to view these links:

And, if you feel up to the task, please feel free to add comments / adventures of your own to either thread!
